The later written accounts of Jesus' life have him saying some rather puzzling stuff against the Jewish religion that doesn't appear in the earlier ones, and doesn't make much sense either, because he thought of himself as a part of the Jewish religion, seems to have observed Passover, and is in some parts of the Bible called a Rabbi. But if you look at the whole thing from the perspective of the animosity the Christians or Christian who wrote the parts that insult Jews felt for a temple that had labelled them heretics, it makes a lot of sense.

The Pharisees weren't even a big deal when Jesus was alive. They didn't become really important in Jewish society until well after his death, when later Gospels like John were written.
