It started when they kept renumbering stuff and making limited edition holographic variants that "You better get this cause it's worth money down the line"

And like most fads, it's not the most well known maker (Liefeld) that makes it crap. It is the copycats who saturate the market trying to ride the coattails while thinking they're gonna be "the next big thing".

The Dark Age ,who is basically all of 90s EXTREME and includes the market crash, ends in the early 00s. After that there is no official name, I guess we could go with COPPER to make it fit with the rest

I mean they do sell comics digitally now and I'd assume that CBR scans weren't a thing till beyond the 90s.
