Season 2's tone basically continues the last third of Season 1. Things get more consistent and there's more running plot lines, though there's still a few "pointless" episodes and it's not trying too hard to take itself seriously.

I'm not sure about this. The first episode for sure, but then the rest were often seen as sort of weak on here, JUST FUCK MY SECOND SEASON UP, etc.

I think they were fine for what they were, personally, but I think the season really came into its own around episode 9 or so (Sleepover/Gift of the Card). From around that point on the episodes feel consistently more fun and plot-relevant, seem to make better use of character development/continuity, and start making it clear the crew knew what they were doing from the start.

That's not at all to say everything before that can be skipped, but if someone doesn't like Fetch or Red Belt or some shit it doesn't mean they should quit while they're ahead. The weaker episodes feel kinda frontloaded on the season.

Well, I guess my point was that I think a distinction should be made between the fact that those episodes establish the season's themes and the fact that those episodes are commonly seen as weaker than most of the rest of the season. I've seen way too many people say they quit somewhere around Wand to Wand because they felt it was no longer fun or that the crew didn't know what they were doing that I do think that's worth noting, that it's thought to get better at a later point.

Not saying anything you said is wrong, in that sense, just providing some clarification. Because as someone who's seen the whole season I do agree with your points, but for someone who hasn't watched it yet "this is what you'll get the whole season" can be taken to imply "it doesn't get any better than this."

Yes, so far 2/3 "finale" episodes end with Star taking an emotional hit (the first one is at least sort of uplifting in the end with Star ultimately saving Marco, which was what was really important to her anyway) and 3/3 have a villain victory of some kind.

I think so too. The way the series starts with Star being overpowered and unchallenged, with things becoming more difficult for her as the show progresses (rather than her starting weak and leveling up) is a fun take.

Especially for the first finale; a ton of people were expecting an easy Star victory even knowing how competent Toffee was because at that point there was no other precedent. Even Daron was deliberately vague about that plot then, just saying the arc would last till the end of the season.

With Bon Bon the spellbook stuff was kind of spoiled early and with an episode called Starcrushed a sad ending was obvious, but they still did the emotion well and showed they weren't afraid to change major things up.

I've said it a million times by now but I guess I'll have to say it again

these threads have had absolute garbage OPs as of late for whatever reason, even though the latest season has given us so much more interesting material and characters that we could use images/fanart of

Like it could still be recognizable. Moon or Hekapoo or one of the million pieces of Star fanart that looks cool.

But it's always a boring screenshot from the show that's been used for like 5 other threads or the most bland Starco art imaginable. It's the equivalent of those first-season threads that would open with a screenshot of Hope or some shit, except now there's no excuse anymore
