He got away from her, did what she think he couldn't do, his way, on his terms, for his own reasons, and rubbed it in her face. As far as conclusions to the Vriska issue go, that's as healthy and pleasant as it gets.

The Meenah thing struck me as Tavros not enjoying being a leader and handing out the position to someone he didn't dislike, while at the same thing befriending Meenah. Whether she's friends with Vriska is irrelevant (so was Terezi, after all, and they got along decently).

Hamfisting? Really? Of all the things that was "Hamfisted" on Kanaya, that was the least of them. Her whole character revolved around vampire jokes from the very beginning. I dunno, I think it's a bit of a stretch to consider what he did a desperate attempt to put Vriska in her place. The way I saw it, he was just letting out his feelings, his really silly sense of humor, and his tendency to mock people with a shit-eating grin and no intent to harm.

(Yes, you could argue that the way he trolled Dave in Act 4 or mocked John in the map quest arc were indicative of Vriska's influence, but I think the playful antagonistic way he interacted with doomed Dave in the proto-bubbles was true to his real personality.)

Also, requiring that someone not pay any attention to their bully/abuser in order to qualify for "total recovery" seems pretty reductive, not to mention... even if that was true, it's the second time he's ever been able to stay away from Vriska. I think him acknowledging her presence and mocking her doesn't say anything about the actual healing he went through.

Vriska is also a selfish fuck up who is trying to emulate her warped ideal of what a hero is, so Tavros ends up with this fourth generation mutant of an idea of how to be a hero. Tavros finally gets over Vriska's influence and manages to be a better person not by trying to be something else, but by being himself and applying the things he can do to help others.

Tavros doing something relatively minor but important using simple people skills is exactly where his arc needed to go, anything else would be missing the point.

The issue here is that LE, and Condy as well, aren't characters. LE had a single line of dialogue which also ended with him not murdering the character in front of him, but besides that everything else he's done in the comic is just shoot lasers and destroy things. You could replace him with a mindless beast or big robot and there wouldn't be any noticeable difference on the plot. Meanwhile for Condy she actually had plenty of dialogue, actual motivations (kill LE and revive her race), and actually made most of the cast prisoners rather than just killing them, but all of that just disappears.

It makes sense that you might want to tone things down a touch, lest you end up with retarded DBZ fights, but there's a middle ground that can be reached. And definitely should have been considering that fight ended up being the final fight of the comic.
