>“Justice League,” the Zack Synder-directed DC Extended Universe film set to debut in theaters this November, will focus on the newly formed Justice League’s attempt to stave off an alien invasion in the absence of Superman, who died at the end of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” The invasion will be led by none other than Steppenwolf, an otherworldly New God who will be played by “Game of Thrones” star Ciaran Hinds. While the 64-year-old actor seems like a strange choice to play an unfathomably powerful conqueror of worlds, it turns out that the film’s version of Steppenwolf will largely be a computer-generated character.

>“Basically they’re going to construct something, digitally, and then they will use my eyes and mouth,” said Hinds revealed in an interview with Independent.

>Hinds’ career stretches as far back as 1980, but the actor has never played role that required motion-capture. To prepare for the experience, he enlisted the help of actor and friend Liam Neeson, who recently came off a similar role as a giant talking tree in “A Monster Calls.” Hinds said Neeson sent him several pamphlets about motion capture acting.

>Hinds also dropped some extra information about his character, about which there has been precious little revealed. “He’s old, tired, still trying to get out of his own enslavement to Darkseid, [but] he has to keep on this line to try [to] and take over worlds,” he shared.

Did you prefer commentary?
Okay.
Because it worked so well for Doomsday, and Cyborg thus far.
Remember when DCEU defenders legit tried arguing that Cirian Hinds being cast meant Steppenwolf wasn't just going the model they used in BvS?
Lets all point at them, throw back our heads and laugh.

Bring on the CG Stepphenwulf.

I'd prefer you didn't make a literal Reddit thread to farm (You)'s. If you don't like it, then just fucking make a thread and say it.

>Remember when DCEU defenders legit tried arguing that Cirian Hinds being cast meant Steppenwolf wasn't just going the model they used in BvS?
I can't speak for other people, but I only ever said the true statement that Steppenwolf will not be that color, because that is just what he looks like through Kryptonian skype and that story mural thing we see in MoS a lot.
>>
>>91313917
>to farm (You)'s
You mean to submit a topic anon might want to discuss? Heaven forbid someone did that on a discussion board.
For the record, this is the format I've always seen it done. Title goes in the subject because it typically summarizes the content that will be the primary subject of the thread. The germane portions of the article is put in the OP to expand upon the subject, and provide more information regarded to it. The link goes at the bottom so I don't farm for "source faggot."
It isn't reddit. It is literally the most basic reasonable format to start a topic with information from another source.

>>91312944

I'm not too fussed about Steppenwolf being CGI per se, but it does depend on how his design looks in general. While I get that the image OP linked is a blue print of sorts for his design I'm wondering how it will look when it's colorized, plus how the face looks.

If that's the power of a PS3 then I missed out.
>>
>>91316050
I don't know. Its just that Steppenwolf, like a lot of the new gods, looks like a regular human. We really dont need to make him an overdesigned, CGI monster mash. And you cant really compare Thanos to him either, seeing how Thanos has more rugged features not unlike Darkseid (insert plagiarism joke). It just doesnt seem very subtle either. That said, I'll hold final judgment until actually seeing the design
>>
>>91312944
This alone will guarantee a rotten score. Imagine if doomsday had a few lines in bvs and was the only villain. That's what Steppenwolf will be
>>
>>91315690
You do know they used crappy stop motiom for Robocop right.
>>
>>91316050
Not the same anon, but we haven't seen thanos in action at all. He just sits in a chair and grabs a gauntlet at the end of guardians (or ultron? I don't quite remember), so I don't think he's a very good example. Meanwhile, as anons have already mentioned, cyborg looks like shit from what we've seen.

Honestly, my biggest problem with the DCEU right now is how shit the costume designs are. I haven't liked a single one yet, with the exception of wonder woman and deadshot.

high bar for the flagship film of the DCEU and the first appearance of the justice league on film.

lets compare it to the first modern appearance of batman on film (batman 1989) or superman's first (superman the movie) and ask ourselves is this something we should be satisfied with.

Exactly. People are acting like this Cyborg is so bad, but it's really in the upper half of Cyborg looks.

Here's another shit look.

>>91316457
His face in that picture is more or less the same as his JL face/face armor.
>>
>>91316479
Batman '89 is bland trash though.
Batman Returns is the only good Batman movie from that era.

And Hackman and Otis do their best to tank any emotion Superman 77 tries to build up.
>>
>>91316260
>Honestly, my biggest problem with the DCEU right now is how shit the costume designs are. I haven't liked a single one yet, with the exception of wonder woman and deadshot.
That's actually my one real praise for the DCEU.

Don't care for Superman, Cyborg, or the Joker and the Flash is still kinda questionable, but the rest range from good-to-great. I think Batman, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman in particular look great. Harley Quinn had a great look in SS and so did Deadshot.

If you're that harsh in your criticism, you may want to temper your expectations for justice league.

But cyborg's face doesn't really change much. The thing that really bugs me is when it looks more like a big clunky robot from the 90s than a real cyborg. He should have at least some skin showing, without going overboard or looking like a guy who taped some tin plates all over himself (like your pic and his original design).
>People are acting like this Cyborg is so bad, but it's really in the upper half of Cyborg looks.
Yeah, but both of those are correct.

People said the same thing about GotG and like half the movies Marvel has made. If Marvel can make those characters work and turn them into huge successes, WB can theoretically do the same with the New Gods.

That's a decent point, but my own point still stands. By starting out with the New Gods, you're using one of your trump cards way too early. Not to mention using some of the most powerful antagonists at your disposal. What can follow the New Gods and actually feel like a threat other than going full Multiversal crisis and having the Anti-Monitor as your bad guy?

>>91317575
>But the reason GOTG worked is because they crack jokes every five seconds. The audience is never going to feel challenged or intimidated if you have constant wise-cracks, le I am groot, and dadrock.
The jokes were part of the appeal for normies, but you wouldn't necessarily HAVE to do the same to make audiences like your character. Just have your movie well-written, the roles well-acted, and your characters well-presented.

Oh yeah, this too. Like you already have Parademons everywhere and shit, it's already practically a full-blown Apokaliptan invasion sans Darkseid.

Like maybe introducing us to the New Gods via their own movie or a Superman sequel where we're introduced to them first via Intergang and we're shown they've been covertly prepping for an invasion of Earth this whole time would've been so much better.

And yes, starting off with literally anything else, Starro, Despero, the White Martians, whatever, would've been better than going full Apokalips.

And that's exactly why your opinion should not be taken seriously.

>Are you saying that it's not possible to dislike Marvel's approach?
Well it's worked out pretty fucking well for them.
>>
>>91317920
But 1/4 of critics at least liked BvS, and over half of critics liked MoS.
>>
>>91317891
>But that's a logical progression.

No it's not, it's power levels faggotry with the illusion of progression. All you need from Justice League movie is this: the world is under a threat. After that you just need a compelling story.

By your logic, every movie after Infinity War is doing it wrong, since there literally can't be a bigger threat than Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet.
>>
>>91317949
>But 1/4 of critics at least liked BvS,
Those are not good statistics.

>By your logic, every movie after Infinity War is doing it wrong, since there literally can't be a bigger threat than Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet.
And they're pretty obviously going to rethink their strategy with the Avengers movies after IW. If you think they won't, then lol.

>>91317949
>Tries to defend BvS by saying that, on a scale of 1-100, it's roughly a 25/100
You can enjoy the movie anon, but this was a stupid line of logic to follow.

>>Tries to defend BvS by saying that, on a scale of 1-100, it's roughly a 25/100
That's not at all what one fourth of critics liking it means.
It means that 25% of people liked it.

Not that people thinks it's a 25/100 on a quality scale.
>>
>>91317988
>And they're pretty obviously going to rethink their strategy with the Avengers movies after IW

Your entire argument is that you can't start with a big villain since nothing feels like a threat anymore, so how are the post-IW movies going to be any good with this logic? Have no villains at al- oh wait, that's basically been Marvel's approach all along, never mind.
>>
>>91318058
It means that, out of 100 critics, roughly 25 would say it was a good movie.

If this was an exam, BvS would get about 25 out of 100 questions correct.

yes

false equivalence

Cyborg looks like shit. But to be fair, Peter Weller could barely walk in that costume. That's not an option with the type of action scenes that JL will have.

Hell, even in just dialog scenes, Cyborg needs to have a lot more freedom of movement than Weller had in the suit.
>>
>>91315736
Every movie could benefit from Ciaran Hinds.

the other characters have full body suits, you know. You can also have parts that are practical and fill the gaps with CGI.

>REEE 2 DESERT PLANETS, NOT MUH

This logic never ceases to amuse
>>
>>91318648
>NOT MUH
?
The issue is that it shows laziness. Either create a new environment or just have it set on Tatooine. They're trying to copy Luke as a wayward kid on Tatooine anyway.
>>
>>91318676
Star Wars has always been [insert environment] planet. People made the same argument about Starkiller Base and Hoth. I don't disagree with the Luke/Rey comparisons though

Why?

And they are right?

There is absolutely no excuse for a THIRD planet killing laser that looks like/is a planet.
>>
>>91318705
Why not?
What's wrong with mo-cap?

Makes it easier to make him really tall, makes it easier for him to be uninhibited by cumbersome prop armor during fight scenes.
>>
>>91318705

Because Ciaran Hinds is 64 and they want Steppenwolf to be physically formidable against the League.
>>
>>91318712
>Hoth
>Planet killing laser

I think you misread, anon
>>
>>91318768
No, i'm pretty sure you mentioned Star Killer base.
>>
>>91318712

Also, the Death Star looks like a moon, not a planet
>>
>>91318780
The comparison they made was between Hoth and Starkiller Base, which is why I brought it up. This stems from the [insert environment] planet argument I was making earlier.

>moons don't look like planets
retard alert

You should probably get your eyes checked, anon. Also don't be proud of saying stupid shit

As someone who absolutely loves the New Gods and all of Kirby's work, I'm super anxious to see what Snyder is gonna do. I liked MoS and BvS, and I enjoy the aesthetic he brings, so this isn't really a complaint about Snyder himself, it's a complaint about how the industry handles this kind of thing in general, and also how people handle the New Gods.
They are supposed to look just like us, they're Gods. I don't want fuckhuge CGI monsters. But it sounds like Steppenwolf is just wearing crazy armor. I can deal with that for him. Darkseid though, no thank you. He is a simple man, you know? He doesn't really go for extravagant.
Other thing I'm anxious about is the New Genesis side of Kirby's Fourth World. People always forget about it. The N52 reboot had no mention of New Genesis, just Parademons and Darkseid appearing out of nowhere. Not even Orion. (Casual) Fans always consider Darkseid to be a "Superman" enemy. Or the Justice League's. No one acknowledges the good Gods, but I hope the DCEU does.
Orion is one of my favorite characters.
This was more than I meant to type lmao

Judging taste via group think isn't a good way to judge something because you're trying to judge something subjective in the first place.

For example, lets say I gave a group of ten people chocolate ice cream and strawberry icecream, and lets say eight of them like the chocolate but only two liked the strawberry. It doesn't mean liking the strawberry icecream is wrong. It doesn't mean that strawberry icecream should no longer be produced because more people prefer chocolate.

Especially when strawberry ice cream outsells chocolate icecream, except when chocolate icecream produces it's absolute best.
>>
>>91320658
Except that, applying this analogy to reality, only either chocolate or strawberry ice cream is produced at a particular time. And most people who like strawberry ice cream are assholes from /tv/ who ruined /co/ with their autistic chocolate versus strawberry company wars.
