If I recall correctly, though who knows of what I read is or isn't from the RP or not, Unsounded Minnow fell in love with a human once and this basically fucked her up for life, Last Unicorn Style. Naiads are senet beasts, and typically pair up, though not necessarily permanently, with the cloud/wind/whatever men depicted on the chapter cover here. But she fell in love with a human and presumably after he died in one way or another she's just kind of not into it any more. It being Naiad things.

Dhamakert doesn't actually fuck with genetics, but seems to be providing it's own set of phenotypes that superscede the "normal" ones. It's been mentioned that if any aldishmen had kids outside of Alderode and the Dhamakert, they'd basically look like Crescians. Within Alderode, it's clear there's also some sort of Dhamakert genetics, because castes interbreeding results in different castes alongside definable rules. The end of the Foi-Hellick affair is important stuff and Duane will tell the story of it in the comic in a few chapters.

Sold to the army as a foot soldier by his ghers. I can't remember what age, it's in the Duane magery story. Twelve or fourteen? Trained with a sword and spear for a year, then was deployed south. Lots of escort duty taking supply trains around, eventually assigned to the Order of Chinoll where he started seeing regular action hunting Mmatont, Vaosa cultists, and Crescian spies and border-hoppers.

He killed a lot of people, was respected, had his own hound and fieldwright support, but was a Soud and couldn't get a higher rank or better pay. His tour was up and he was obsessing over the idea of getting out and becoming a vliegeng pilot when Duane joined up. He stayed to look out for him, even though it meant deployment into the thick of Avelpit and the civil insurrection there. He's a good bro.

They're not really part of the Dammakhert, they can't be controlled by the Window (the organization that handles stinging and enforcement), and they're a minority, so they're easy to scapegoat when it comes to crime, jobs, and poverty. Then the Mmatont gained momentum - partly out of a desire to restore Tainish heritage and partly as a response to discrimination - and people had even more reason to hate and stigmatise the Soud.

The reason that the Ssaelit don't approve of plods is because they see Rot and decay as unholy aspects that the Old Gods forced into the world. They cremate their bodies before any rot can touch them. If they don't they think the soul is Damned. So to keep a rotting corpse around for labor is allowing something evil to occur basically.

Given that First materials are essentially eternal, that's not much of a problem for making a construct out of a dead senet beast.
