Those are both basic and popular premises common in a lot of fandoms. They're ideas with broad appeal because they're cute and open to a lot of personal interpretation.
SVTFOE doesn't really have any popular AUs that are their own coherent and developed works. I think the one I've seen with the most going for it is the St. Olga's AU but that's still pretty small and not really explored.

Glossaryck has been built up as the kind of guy who doesn't care about struggles for power. I doubt he's 'evil' to an exaggerated degree. He might have motivations for training them (maybe he absorbs the magic of each person he trains after there death or something) but he doesn't give off an evil vibe.

catchup anon here. Today I watched Spider With a Top Hat and Into The Wand. I liked both a lot, but each portrayed the inner workings of Star's wand in very different ways, not only from each other but from the "unicorn on a little treadmill" from before that.
Are there any good fan theories on why that is? Any insights from the crew I should know about?

We dont really know what she'll do because she's an underdeveloped character. This gives Starco shippers the freedom to suppose that Jackie gets mad because it will cause them to break up and by elimination Star and Marco will date. There's really nothing else to it.
Even outside of dogmatic shippers it's impossible to have any in depth discussion on how she'll react to these events because there's too many unknowns.
People can either dismiss Jackie as a character and make predictions on how she will fulfill her role as a plot device or they can project their own varying personalities onto Jackie to predict what will happen.

This. Jackie's a cool character. I'm ultra pro Starco but I can't say that I don't like Jackie.
I do feel that she's probably cool enough to go after Star along with Marco. Cool enough to even be the one to suggest it probably.
But I'm betting on Jackie noticing how Marco feels about/treats Star and feeling outgunned on so many levels. She's cool like that.

Jackie has every reason to feel hurt and betrayed in her situation. She doesn't know Star like Marco does, they are (were) friends but they're not close and almost all of their interactions revolved around Star trying to set her up with Marco. And now that they're together, Star confessed to him and tore herself out of his life.
Jackie genuinely likes Marco and has always trusted him despite his fixation with Star, even with them living together, because she knows Marco's had a crush on her for a long time and Star's been working to set them up almost since she arrived on Earth.
But now there's doubt in her mind, even if it's not Marco's fault, even if Star confessing to him is an implicit confirmation that they had never done anything while they lived together.

They were supposed to be enjoying their first summer together as a couple, and now once again he's more worried about Star than her. He had to check on her after their first kiss, he (from Jackie's perspective) invited her to a concert with them, and now he's going to just ditch her for who knows how long to find his "friend" who chose to leave him.
"Mad" might not be the right word, but she has every reason to be upset.

My theory: the Wand works similar to the dimensional scissors. It opens doorways to several different realities. The difference is that all these dimensions are created and powered by the wand itself. The treadmill unicorn allows the wand to maintain the magic power needed to keep all these realities stable. The house where all the magic critters live is its own reality, and the memory world of Into the Wand is another. But both are dimensions that can only be accessed through the Wand.

I think the whole point of the wand is just that it's inner workings and the mechanism is just "magic, don't read too deep into the lore on it". That's more because trying to put in a lot of good explanation on magic as per your typical fantasy canon would take away the fun, loose feel of SvtFoE. It could really be a lot of things, the blood moon chose Marco and star specifically amongst the crowd, I'm not even sure if it would've chosen Tom and Star, second off their souls were bound together which doesn't necessarily mean romantically but it's a huge possibility given the outcome of season 2.

I think it's really strange that the blood moon was visible on earth and in the underworld, and let's not forget the mysterious warning Marco about it too, could it be glossaryck? Raphael trying to help out his son? Toffee's plan all along? Maybe the blood moon itself we don't know for the time being.

It could mean that their feelings are connected and they can be swayed by each other's feelings, such as Marco's crush on Jackie entering the "soul feelings pool" which feeds both Marco and Star and this is what shaped Star's crush on Marco, in a manner similar to soul eater when maka and soul merge together.

or it just means that they'll be inevitably drawn together for eternity no matter the obstacles and the difficulties, each time having to suffer more and more as they cannot set their minds straight and would fall prey to insecurities and self sabotaging: Star likes Marco but would anything really change if they were dating? probably not much so it wouldn't feel special; if Marco leaves Jackie for Star it may seem that Star is just the second choice, the safe way out of loneliness and is something that could weight heavily on Marco if he decides to make a move, unsure of how Star would react and how she would feel afterwards.

And this is all without any further characters entering each other's lives and further changing and shaping their perception of their relationship.

Way I understood it is every has some innate ability to do magic (Glossaryck called it potential; Ludo's is low, Star's is very high). The wand makes it super easy to access this ability - just wave it around and say something silly (skimming). Getting to the powerful stuff, though, requires intense focus and concentration regardless of if you have the wand or not (dipping down).

The wand is magically constructed, evidenced by the folded pocket dimensions we've seen inside of it, but is more of a tool to access/amplify your magic than a source of magic itself.

Going "into" the wand means going into the section that contains the current holder's memories, which seems to be more of a mental process facilitated by Glossaryck,

The creatures "inside" the wand are in an apparent pocket dimension, and use a portal within it to be beamed out of the crystal when they recognize Star calling for them.

The literal inside of a wand contains the unicorn powering it.

All three are separate points in space, and for the mental area in Into the Wand, arguably time.

So far it seems to be nothing but noise. I do like how Star always seem to be on the verge of drug overdose but everything else are just lame, lame attempts at being funny.

It gets better with the worldbuilding/plot/even some emotional stuff closer to the middle/end of the season (and then the second season does all those aspects much, much better). I'd also say the comedy improves as they get a better handle on what the show is, but that's more subjective.

Which episode are you on? For a certain point the episodes largely felt like pretty stock cartoon situations, then when some execs left in the middle of that season they did more interesting things.

At a minimum I will say that it won't feel like "nothing but noise" the whole season (that one joke where Star screams like twice in a row in an episode you've probably seen, Match Maker, is one that's absolutely jarring in retrospect).

Yeah, this is the one I mentioned where Star screams twice. It's really not much like later episodes and definitely does a lot of "yelling as comedy" when others don't.

It was literally the first episode produced (the two parts of the first episode you watched were made later), and most people who worked on it aren't even on the show now. It gets better from there.

I like the first season a lot, it has a ton of good qualities and even connects to the second well when you compare the two, but the first 7 episodes do suck absolute dick at convincing someone with the attitude of "i am a busy adult and must only watch quality cartoons with the limited time I have, clearly this has no lasting appeal or depth that would appeal to intellectuals such as myself (time to go jerk off to steven universe for the next 1000 hours)" to give it a chance

and this isn't referring to the anon in this thread or anyone else who thinks it sucks dick; not saying you're wrong or getting on SU or anything either. it's just an extremely common response I've seen online to the first episode and later ones, especially if you're not watching quickly or treating each episode like two separate ones (ex. watch the first 10 minutes, come back to the second 10 minutes like a month later, wonder why the show isn't progressing)

I liked the first season okay as it aired, it got better in the middle and then I thought it was decent, but I really appreciated it when I went back and binged all 13 of the existing episodes in one night, as i'd seen them only when they aired before. it really flows together and is a more enjoyable watching experience when you to try to watch them all really close together, to see how the episodes connect and such.

TL;DR it sucks dick at presenting a plot from the get-go. it's a great show to watch in large chunks but you have to know that before you get into it.

my point was that I don't watch it entirely for the plot (I started watching before it began), but some people do, even in these threads if some of the "filler" bitching at times is any indication

and people watching mainly for plot can still legitimately enjoy the show. it's just that the first few episodes don't exactly promise anything more than episodic/formulaic high school antics over and over

and if the show stayed episodic but the quality also stepped up, I guess i'd still be into it. but I think the plot marked a large improvement for the show, as it actually seriously use the premise of other dimensions and different creatures and the problems of entrusting a powerful magical item to a teenager more seriously. the show got a lot of complaints for "wasted potential" at first, but then and now actually capitalizes on the interesting world it established.

so yeah, I do like plot, but it's not the only thing to watch for either.
