So the fact that they're just a larger version of...well, the original nanites and expecting that to get him into the university where his department head had literally made the BIG breakthrough of the thing he's emulating was always unusual in my book. Like nanites are interesting because of how small they are, so they can operate in extremely hard to reach places on incredibly microscopic but important issues (health issues are a big one, repairs for systems are another).

I mean being able to make something that runs off of thought is okay but it also makes it extremely temperamental to your ability to control your thoughts. Half the joy of programs and even basic generative AI is that they do a thing consistently and to your specifications.

The other one that sort of confused me was that Hiro didnt just make another headband to disarm Yokai.

Those are the general three I was considering but on the whole it was sort of interesting and had a great aesthetic...but it was more like a Green Lantern ring than other neural-link tools.

Like I think it'd be nice to see Hiro having to learn how to use the headband with the nanites in the first place

But Callahan's things were just magnetic/linking parts or whatever. Hiro actually made the nanites able to create things (and presumably more of each other if needed, albeit not in as much quantity as just a production line). As for the headband thing, it's possible they were on a frequency that couldn't be replicated, though a jammer might have worked.

If anything, why didn't Yokai/Callahan create things with the nanites instead of just using them as the weapon? Hiro had them build a small tower, so the same thing like cages and weapons could have been done to attack the gang and keep the nanites from running out.

I don't know why multi-culti is so reviled...single-culture serials are hard to do since most writers don't know how to write multiple perspectives on the same culture for multiple characters from a shared background.

Like a good example that gets it right are the Persona games in my opinion: they offer a bunch of differing views on Modern Japanese society without getting into a rut of having many characters have the same core traits and same arc.
Or worse, having many characters have the same shared traits but having them inexplicably and spontaneously react differently to situations they reacted to the same prior.

Multi-Culti is an easy but relatively effective way to write varied characters into a single cast.
