With Bendis it's that shitting on characters proves you're not a "fanboy" or an old-fashioned Marvel writer who takes "lame" characters seriously.

It's the same reason why he doesn't explain his out-of-character writing. He knows Hawkeye has always been written with a no-kill rule (and if he doesn't his editor does). But explaining why he's now OK with killing would be an old-school fanboy writer's tactic.

Bendis is easier to understand if you think of him as someone who likes superheroes but considers it beneath his dignity to care about superhero writing.

Because Wanda was a broken character.

Think about it;
She is the single worst case of powercreep in all comics. Originally she zapped people with bad luck mutant energy rays, but a lack of understanding of her character by lazy writers led to first her becoming a magic witch, and then to her becoming a mutant that controls magic without consequence, which inevitably led to her becoming a reality-warping mutant OP god...
That shit had to get fixed, and fast. You know that.
Then there was all the bullshit over the years to separate the X-Men from the rest of the Marvel U, how exactly was that going to work with three iconic mutant Avengers members?
Trying to erase Wanda's mutant backstory was making her a two-dimensional character.
Now I realize that there are some who advocate such a fate for all female characters, but that shit is just stupid.
So...
When Bendis got his hands on her Wanda had gone from being the reformed ex-villainess mutant to being the god-powered win button with no connection to anything mutant beyond a brother in the Inhumans' family tree.

All that had to go. Making the return to original concept an epic disaster story was just typical Bendis flourish.

Her mutant power was a bad luck ray. The end. Nothing more than that.
Someone wants to make her a witch also, sure, why not? but saying that control over all magic and thus all reality is now her mutant power destroyed her character concept.
It was a bad retcon.
So Bendis fixed that with his bullshit methods, messy, but it fixed the problem. She's "no more mutant" ... just a witch ... fixed.
But then there's deciding to trash and rewrite her entire origin story in another new retcon that's somehow even more convoluted and inconsistent than her and Petro being Magneto's illegit bastard kids but still sucked into his Brotherhood by virtue of being mutants.
But all that backstory is a lie now. Why?
What good did that accomplish?
Seriously, what was the point of that?
All I saw was an erasing of the original canon just to keep everything screwed up for another decade with yet another pointless plothole to fill.

Comics Wanda has been handled horrendously.

Robinson wasted a good chunk of the solo comic on retcons, when people wanted fun, engaging stories. The stories in Greece and Japan, and the Pietro issue, were the kind of thing there needed to be more of.

Also making "Scarlet Witch" a mantle takes away the aspect of her taking up the name as defiance if the people who hated her.
