Superman: American Alien

Had some interesting ideas with some good highs, but overall pretty average.

Eh.

I didn't like his take on Luthor, and the issue on the boat was a bit too self-indulgent, but the rest was alright.

Might as well propel discussion via posting.

Issue 1, 3, and 4 were great. 5 was ok but I expected more.

I don't think most of /co/ could move past issue 2 with that level of not muh.

Expect at least one anon to come in and base the work off of the author's own character. Another based off of his child killing father.

Mostly the Randian tirade about how he's an exceptional go-getter and everyone else is a worm unfit to breath the same air he does (that he gives to Clark, who he believes to be a journalist come to interview him, right out of the blue). It didn't really seem like Luthor to me, mostly because I imagine him less overt and more seductive in his rhetoric. He sounded too much like an edgy libertarian drone rather than the larger-than-life comic book character he's supposed to be.

The part where he chews out Clark for coming after him is good, though.

I thought it was alright for the most part, but I didn't think there was really a satisfying ending. It just sorta stopped abrubtly, but I think Max was just leaving the door open for more stories in this universe.

Not the same user, but I think anon didn't like this Lex because of his motives. In American Alien, Lex hated Superman because of philosophical differences, when in anon's favorite interpretation, it's because Luthor just wanted power and Superman was an obstacle in that power.

I personally like a mixture of both takes.

I've read this a few times and liked it. I know there was a story written by Landis where superman meets the Joker that I keep seeing panels of, but nobody ever posts the whole story.

The title of the comic is "The Sound of One Hand Clapping", it was published in the Adventures of Superman, which was apart of the digital-only line (I think) with Injustice and Legends of the Dark Knight.

It's REALLY meta, and not even in a subtle or clever way. Superman flat out says "a child could write you" and proceeds to call Joker a badly written character while trying very hard not to acknowledge the fact that they're in a comic. It ends with Supes throwing a temper tantrum in the Batcave and threatening to kill the Joker because Batman didn't stop him from setting a bomb in the Daily Planet
