In this show it's sort of unfair to say 3 episodes because the first half of the first season seemed to be influenced strongly by some executives who then fucked off for the rest of the series. Mewberty was the first time they got to push the limits of the show, Fortune Cookies is the first episode that seems to have no involvement from said execs. From then on it's all Daron and others who made the show what we as fans now know it as.

Of course, if someone watches the first episode and hates it or whatever, or hasn't watched that far, I'm not saying they're "wrong" or that they absolutely must watch the whole thing to have an opinion or some dumb shit.

But I think people getting into it for the first time are obligated to know that the first few episodes aren't the template for the like 30+ following ones.

Most anime are only twelve episodes long, period.
If a show can't convey its appeal to you within the first 25% of its total airtime, it's probably fair to say you won't enjoy the rest of it.

Western cartoons are a different beast entirely with much more variable planned runtimes and other factors, dependent more on the whims of their network rather than trying to squeeze otaku money out of a brutal and oversaturated market.
SVTFOE in particular had a unique situation where they were greenlit for a second season from the start, but they still had network "help" in the first half of the first season to try to maximize the show's viewing base by focusing on episodic plots.
They let Nefcy fully take the reins after they felt confident that it could stand on its own and that Nefcy was a competent creator and director, but the point is it had neither a reason nor the opportunity to rush into the meat of its plot/potential so quickly.

As one of those anons I don't hate them and in fact I think they have many, many good points. There are some little things I don't like about it, weak individual episodes mainly and some possible poor decisions on the production end (a plot about a deliberately obnoxious character like Pony Head in the first episode? were so many Ludo episodes really necessary for us to get the idea?) but it's generally really solid and even kind of tells its own little story when taken in isolation from following episodes.

I've just been with this show since the beginning and I've seen the negative reaction most of them still get from people just getting into it because they watch, like, one episode a month and feel like it never goes anywhere, which was also how it aired, more or less, in the first season. Leading to dismissing it as just an okay kids' show but not something to watch , "OBviously this is nowhere near the level of such mature fare for mature adults like myself, as, say Steven Universe," etc. I'm just a big proponent of ACTUALLY WATCH THE FUCKING SHOW, YOU'LL GET YOUR LORE AND PLOT, I SWEAR

Everyone will disagree but I think Starbruary was one of the better things that could've happened with the Star schedule. This is one of its biggest strengths for me. Just a lot of violence and dark humor without feeling tryhard grimdark/edgy or making the contrast between the cute style and the violence the only joke.

It sort of has a "mean-spirited" edge while also not particularly shitting on any of the regular characters to pull that off, if that makes sense. Like Mewni and the uni/multiverse in general is a colorful, happy, ultimately shitty place.

Also like that this show was made in a time when cartoons are allowed to reference death and stuff. Spider with a Top Hat isn't even a memorable episode to me just because I prefer interactions with the main characters to a bunch of run-offs, but the bit where Spider is warned about how if things go wrong "Star could get killed" was refreshing to hear.

Star probably wanted this part to show how she's flawed, but it doesn't really say anything about her at all.
What it does say is that the Royal Family has dark secrets and enemies among the "forces of evil." Star herself has a whole closet.

I don't think it would be a good development.

I'm a big believer in the importance of platonic relationships. I'm in one myself, that I value a lot.

However, the thing about such relationships is that they have a different dynamic from romantic relationships. They require the parties to them to put a deliberate distance between each other, to exercise restraint.

This is not always easy, and it requires both parties to agree. A true platonic relationship isn't platonic only on one side, with the other pining fruitlessly for a romantic relationship - that would suck terribly.

In the relationship we have seen depicted, Star has tried *to exercise the sort of restraint necessary to make a platonic relationship work - to the extent of positively encouraging Marco to date Jackie - but (and this is the important "but") she has failed to make it work *for her.

The problem is that the restraint has to exercised consistently and from the start - she grew too enamoured with Marco over time for some last-minute restraint to work in reigning in her feelings.

Therefore, a true platonic relationship probably isn't possible any more. They could pretend to have one, but the pretence would be a hard ordeal for Star, who would have her nose rubbed in heartbreak every moment she was with the two of them.

Ludo's pretty cool too. He's clearly shown that he can more than take care of himself when he puts his mind to it. And I'd say more nuanced than Toffee with how he acts when he's care free and how he acts when he's serious.

I figured after his body was destroyed in the explosion, assuming he was the one who placed his finger into the wand, his consciousness was transferred into it when he "died" because whatever force keeps him immortal read the wand as his body. That's probably a thing you can only do once.

Still OP re: being immortal though, and even more so after possessing Ludo.

Also, yeah, I think at this point Ludo's personality is more interesting than Toffee's because we've actually seen more of it by now. That might change though.

There's no doubt in my mind that they're coming up with the lore piece by piece, but I think they've actually made a supreme effort to make even the dumbest things from the earliest episodes all feel connected.

Unless Star's romantic feelings for Marco change, then no I don't think they can go back to being in a platonic friendship for an extended period of time. That is not to say that this cannot happen, Star's feelings could feasibly alter, given the rather impactful series of events currently going on in her life. She could feasibly come to the same realization that Moon had in her youth, in that she was welcome to friendship but not romance.

However, it seems much more likely that Star's feelings will remain, given how close her and Marco have become throughout the show, on top of her much more emotionally charged personality in comparison to Moon. Star and Marco are realistically way too close now for their relationship not to develop into a romance or, alternately, encounter problems with one member of the relationship feeling more for that other, as is currently the case.

As much as I'd like to see Marco end up overcoming his issues with self-confidence and social anxiety and being close with Jackie, someone who does really seem to like him, problems and all, I just can't see them lasting in the face of Star's feelings. Marco and Star have just had way too much development in their relationship together, they're incredibly close, have fantastic chemistry, get the best out of each other and value each other so highly that they'd both put each other first. That's all the ingredients for a fantastic relationship right there.
This is not to say that Marco and Jackie couldn't have had a similarly fantastic relationship, only that the show has focused on the build up of such a relationship between Marco and Star.

Realistically we can pretty much all admit that the writing is on the wall with the show's eventual romance outcome, it'll be Starco. There's just likely a bit more time until that happens, a bit more suffering for the characters to endure.

There's scenarios where a non-Starco ending could happen, that potentiality should never be entirely discredited. That being said, the much more likely scenario is a Starco end and the majority of people likely understand that, given they've likely watched the show itself and seen the amount of time the two have had together.

That being said, you shouldn't be bothered by those posts, regardless of their likelihood of happening, it makes you sound a bit insecure about what is just a pairing in a cartoon. Although, some posts deserve calling out if their content is complete shit, or just reporting and moving on like a good portion of the shit posts you inevitably get during a show's duration, particularly during a hiatus.

True that it is a bit hard for Jackie, but I feel like Jackie has alternatives for a relationship.
Not so much for Star. I haven't yet seen a character that'd be good for Star other than Marco.
I feel like there's not as much to worry about with Jackie. She's a cool character and I like her, but like, she's a calm and collected character. It wouldn't take her too long to deal with a breakup. It'd still suck for her of course, but it wouldn't be as bad as it would be for Star.

This is pretty on point.

It's certainly possible that Star and Marco could remain close platonic friends and work things through but that requires time and distance (so Star can handle things and Marco too).

They don't have that, not with a potential war coming about. As long as Star continues to have feelings for Marco and since Marco knows, they're likely not going to be as physically affectionate with each other as we've seen, or really be as close as we've seen.

If Nefcy goes full madwoman, Star and Marco's friendship would pretty much collapse at this point (at least until the Toffee thing gets resolved).
