I'm wondering if maybe this strip had dual meanings, and Dorothy was not down just because people didn't like her, but because she was also running into troubles in class.

We've seen her trying to balance stuff, but we haven't seen her success. The only class we've really seen her in is Gender Studies and we've never seen any sort of evaluation in that. Of course we can assume she's doing well from her attitude, though.

Also, early on she was literally counting minutes to spare to keep everything going, and that was before she was trying to spend more time with Joyce (as of the Ethan breakup), become RA (as of Ruth's meltdown the preceding Sunday), figure out how to catch Ryan and tell Joyce (night of the Sunday) and help Walky (as of yesterday/Tuesday when he confessed)*. So it makes some sense that something slipped during all of that, especially slipping from A to C.

However, It doesn't make sense that there's been no real change in her demeanour about that until now, outside of image related and the following exchange, which I had to take out of context. You generally know when you're not solid on a subject, so Dorothy would know when she's slipping.

*Of course, this assignment would have to predate the RA stuff unless Willis is grossly overestimating the speed of grading. Based on my experience, you wouldn't get your grades for a thing you did Monday on Wednesday the same week unless it was simple as hell to grade, and probably not even then. More competition for work is probably the reason. It's the same as how having a college degree AT all used to be considered an accomplishment, and in the current state of America a college degree is pretty much viewed the way a high school degree/GED used to be seen. She's been up Walky's butt so far that she missed class once, she does journalism for the school paper, she has difficult classes (probably 18 hours a week), and she was also trying to become RA and spent a long time checking in on people and focusing on others instead of her own studies.

At the one where I am, there is no D, it goes straight from C to F; the logic is that 60-69% simply is not adequate performance to count as a passing grade. Here's the full timeline of events:

>Roomies
A slice-of-life webcomic about college roommates. It was begun in Willis' single year of college and I believe was published in his school paper, after which he dropped out and went on to continue the comic as a webcomic.
>It's Walky
A sequel to "Roomies" featuring the same characters, but as secret agents for some kind of science-fiction agency. The comic eventually ended and spun off in two directions:
>Joyce & Walky
The first "It's Walky" spin-off and another slice-of-life comic, following the titular Joyce and Walky. I believe it maintained the dramatic/science-fiction elements of "It's Walky"; I've never bothered to read it at length. This series had a spin-off of its own:

A very short read, as this was a comic that was created during the pregnancy period of Willis' wife. Very much comedic slice-of-life, obviously.
>Shortpacked!
The second "It's Walky" spin-off and harder comedy comic strip in which several characters from "It's Walky" work at a toy store. This is the comic that people know Willis for, primarily thanks to its later years in which it lost its comedic neutrality and started to become a soapbox. The comic ended in 2015 with a cliffhanger in which Soggies, villainous characters from old Cap'n Crunch commercials, invade the Shortpacked universe, and by default the entire "Walkyverse".

At some point in 2010, Willis got the bright idea to start fresh. He decided to dig back into his own past and resurrect the concept of "Roomies", but with the idea to simply do everything as differently as he could have done from the Walkyverse. Thus was born "Dumbing of Age".

I could go on a whole big spiel, starting with the premise of DoA and spiralling wildly out of control from there, but I'll just say that my own viewpoint has a fundamental creative differences from Willis's.

When my sister had her second child both she and her husband were working 40+ hours a week and their first child was still a toddler. How does Willis fill his time when not working on the comic or prepping for book releases?
