I think Bubbline works well. Marceline is a very emotional person so she needs someone a bit more calm and logical to stabilise her. PB is very reserved, so she needs someone like Marceline to bring out her softer side. They balance each other nicely. Maybe I'm just a sucker for that kind of dynamic.

As for manipulative, PB has come a long way. Deep down she is a very caring person, even if she has had trouble expressing that in the past.

AT has never taken the safe or predictable route before, so I've got no reason to think they'll do it this time. Also, turning IK back to Simon is terrible from a writing standpoint. It basically undoes all his growth as the Ice King, and isn't a satisfying conclusion to his arc.
