It's not Mr. Fantastic's powers either. Mr. Fantastic is elastic. Kamala can grow/shrink her entire body or only certain parts of her body, can transform her appearance, and has a minor healing factor. If you punch or shoot Mr. Fantastic, he can bounce the bullet/fist back off. If you shoot Kamala, then the bullet will just penetrate like shooting a normal person or what have you.

She doesn't "stretch," she just makes her arms bigger. Shit like that.

That's just a persistent /co/ myth based on a misreading of the page where they tell her that first manifestations can be supercharged and that her powers come from one source. Her caloric intake, presumably. This was never spelled out but she is always eating a ton when heroing. In any case, if she gets wounded, all her shifting shorts out for healing. Which apparently does not affect size, though. She got knocked out while huge and only shrunk when regaining conscience. So maybe it's not an automatism but a (semi-)conscious decision to prioritise healing.
Also, the more shifting, the more taxing. It seems that his is about proximity to base form, so size shifts are simpler than things like imitation of someone's looks including clothing or inanimate objects.
