I finished the first movie (la Nahuala) yesterday. It sure was something.

Pros:
A handful of funny moments.
Teodora was okay. She basically had one and a half scenes. Not worth watching it just for her, guys. She was just there to be a snob.
Don Andrés was great. More delusional (à la Don Quixote) than in the show. He tried to fight the sugar skull kids as if they were enormous monsters.
Sugar Skull kids were pretty much like they were in the show (i.e. great).
Plot was fine for a kids' movie I guess. Decently creepy for kids too. I don't know.

Cons:
Fucking horrendous animation. Just plain shit.
As many unfunny bits as there were funny bits. There were three instances of characters pissing themselves. And then one instance of someone getting piss dropped on them in the street.
Like half the characters were obnoxious as fuck and they wouldn't stop singing random, grating songs. Leo's brother had this terrible song about Leo pissing himself. There were skeleton characters who were inexplicably singing "Witch Doctor". And one character sang a song about going upstairs as she went upstairs (?).
Leo was nothing like in the show. He seemed like a 6 year old.

I wouldn't recommend watching it out of a desire for more of the show. They're two separate things. But go ahead if you're curious about it anyway. There are worse things I suppose.

The singing skeletons are an injoke only mexicans would understand. See, they are singing Witch Doctor because the msin skeleton is voiced by a mexican comedian that became famous singing Witch Doctor in the 70s

A lot of the characters are like that in fact. Don Andres is based on his VA, a mexican comedian also named Andres. Alebrije's VA is another comedian famous for portraying 'barrio' characters, thus Alebrije's mannerism and accent.

The movies are a little odd about that. He seems to have aged over the course of the movies (Leo looks taller and has a deeper voice in the 4th movie than he did in the 1st movie) although if you put the movies back to back and compared their endings and beginnings, I don't think more than a year passed by chronologically.

This scene was kind of weird. I know it's a friendship song because I can hear them say "best friends" in English, but the song isn't subbed. I tried switching it to the English version, but even then they still sing the song in Spanish anyways.

They'll probably stick with the movie designs. I think the netflix redesigns only look the way they do because of Netflix funds. If Anima tried to make a show without the netflix money, they'd probably look like their movie forms.
