Weird, it sounds like she knew *exactly* how to explain.

Also, that last Joyce pose looks super weird to me for some reason. The arms pose in panel 4 is better as it follows the motion, but the expression is worse. Aaaand I think I prefer the older panel 3 as well, as it really emphasizes the impact of the kick. And even though Sal's face in panel 1 is a joke in the old one, in the new one it's almost completely devoid of the angry emotion it was supposed to convey, because the eyebrows are lost in the solid black hair.

Uh, Joyce's design is cool, though, I like the stripe on the arm and the visible jetpack. And the new panel 2 follows better from the positioning of panel 1, even if it's less interesting use of the jetpack.

What kind of conversation is that!? It seems like the whole purpose of this strip is to avoid being specific at all costs. And I don't get why because a little specificity here and there can make things seem more real. He never dances around gender studies topics like this, but I don't think we've ever even learned what class it is Jacob and Sarah take together.


Also, the whole strip reminded me of pic related, where it's revealed Joyce and Sarah don't interact like normal people, but somehow Joyce does with everyone else just fine.

In the IW/SP universe there are Martian jetpacks, but they look like normal vests. Not many people can use them for handwave-y reasons. Joyce, as Willis's self-insertion character, is a special snowflake and can use magic technology. Because it's Willis, the jetpack "effect" always looks like giant farts flying out of Joyce's ass.

I think it would have been interesting if they were a known organisation from the start.
There could be some interesting storylines about SEMME attempting to get positive publicity to avoid being shut down (like XCOM).

I get what you're saying, but to nitpick, XCOM kept their funding based on performance, not publicity. I think part of you doing well, keeping deaths down etc, makes it easy for the governments to cover it up, to prevent mass hysteria.

I do think it's possible to do SEMME as a public entity but I think it would require a lot of thought. Admitting that aliens exist would cause a shitstorm, let alone an antagonistic alien species (or two)..
