Yep, that's the point of Season 4 I think. The "Steven Season" where we actually focus on or around him for a change. He's a perfectly fine main character, but he's at his best when bouncing off other characters and it can lead to some fairly dull episodes when he's not.

One thing I noticed for when gems fight is that ultimately, it doesn't matter what type of damage is done, as long as you do enough to make them EXPLOSIVELY give up their mass and retreat into their gem.

season 4 is really just super problematic on it's own. It was always consistently pretty great before that, and having bubbled, jasper, and bismuth in such quick succession was great.

How is Lapis wanting revenge for being trapped and used in a mirror a plot hole? Her using her powers to force Jasper to stay fused with her as Malachite because she was tired of being a prisoner and wanted to be the jailer while having control over her life and somebody else for once was like the only interesting thing about her character. They should have gone further with exploring her anger and dark control-freak side instead of making her into a boring wooby.

the writing for lapis post-same old world is where the quality of Lapis' character falls apart, but like I said, it wouldn't have if they didn't immediately drop her anger towards everyone after bringing her back from the sidelines instead of turning her into a boring woobie. It's not a plot-hole, but it is bad writing direction imo, her character isn't anything other than depression representation now.

The actual explanation by Rebecca Sugar for her being a lazy useless piece of shit and not using her powers is because she is afraid of them and herself after what she did with Jasper/Malachite
