Why? Because you can air the full series in 5 hours and two because Adult Swim randomly has the final episode of 12 Oz Mouse "Prolegomenon" listed in the 4 AM on that night's schedule despite the fact that no 12 Oz Mouse episodes have rerun at all since 2016.

It did seem to start getting stale when AS lost Futurama at the end of 2007 and by 2009 when AS picked up King of the Hill and moved back to 10 PM. Like where it used a mix of originals and FOX reruns before midnight and then anything goes afterwards it was turning into just strictly FOX before midnight and by 2011, AS' 10th anniversary, weeknights had turned into the same format we see today, FOX before midnight and Robot Chicken and another original or two after (usually Aqua/Squids or Metalocalypse/Superjail) before rerunning the FOX shows again. It was around 2011 that they really began purging all the older and weirder shows from the schedule too in favor of only reruns of the big ratings grabbers.

I watched it often it was part of the line up only underaged would think it was April fools. My brother and his friend wanted to play mgs2 and I'd tell them to fuck off so I could watch pee wee at like 10? I miss it being on AS it felt right at home desu more then when it originally aired on the kids block. Yeah. At this point, Home Movies has no better or worse ratings draw than most of the other AS originals (maybe a tad better). It all depends on the time it's aired in. The classics block really should be moved from 8 PM to 1 AM imo. It would definitely get higher ratings there and more AS viewers are watching, not just FOX rerun normies.

It is odd though, how big the rest of the home movies cast and crew has gotten, Brendon with Metalocalypse and Dethklok, Loren and the rest with Bob's Burgers, Jon with Bob's AND Archer.

Comparatively, Home Movies is very underrated (Dr. Katz even more so).

You'd think given the obvious tonal and stylistic similarities between it and Bob's it be a bit more well known cult classic and have caught on with a newer generation of fans.

Hell, even Rick and Morty is doing the whole retroscripting improvisation and then edit and animate into an episode schtick.

Seriously this. It's just not the right audience at that hour. They've tried airing originals there before and it never works.

Maybe if they sandwiched Home Movies and Bob's Burgers and King of the Hill together that might work because the shows all have very similar styles of comedy and share many of the same cast and writers and are about the same level as far as innapropriate content.

The problem is that the people who watch FOX shows won't watch Home Movies no matter how similar it is, simply because they don't recognize it or haven't heard of it before, or because the animation is too limiting and the early episodes are too "loose" for the average moron channelsurfer in 2017 to be entertained by.

Just put that shit on a bit later at night where the target audience actually is, for fucks sake.

People give R&M praise for it's improvisation but Home Movies was doing it in the late 90's-early 00's.

My guess is the artstyle (in a match between EEnE-esque squigglevision and flash, both are unappealing) combined with the comedy. Home Movies is too deadpan. Bob's Burgers has a better mix while R&M's improv is combined in a way where it's more appealing to a general audience. I feel like people who watched Adult Swim back in the day respect it more than people now. Home Movies will always be underrated because it's a niche taste.
