It's amazing how 15 years old movies looks and feel better than anything from MCU and DC. Really, why Disney or WB can't do something like this?:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUsssa6ArAY

Even with an outdated CGI, this fight is better than any modern cape fight. No endless cuts, real actors instead of 100% CGI models (Marvel). No shaky camera or blur effects (DC). Just a good fight

And this has more heart than the whole MCU:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=240&v=AiOJr4EyUH8
Moments like this is what movies about heroes need. instead we got non-stop quips from Marvel and forced drama from DC.

Marvel and DC's cinematic universe are a failure. Their soulless movies are not about heroes. They are just bad comedies and bad dramas.
>>
>>91161877
Yeah and then you get web erectile dysfunction in SM2 and the magic butler in SM3.

Think about the things in your life that lead you to this moment.

Think hard.

What could you have changed?

Perhaps it's not too late.

Oh good, another movie thread. Exactly what I was missing.

When will that faggot Hiro ban live-action shit from /co/?
>>
>>91161877
Thats all just your opinion. And to be fair alot of people share it. I just find it hard to get past how creepy Peter comes across. He seems more like a school shooter than a super hero.
But most people disagree so there is probably sonething im missing when I watch them.
>>
It's a well directed movie but the writing and in some cases the acting is awful.

And how are these bad things? They were interesting character development moments. I mean, this has a lot of heart:

Inexplicably losing your super powers without cause and then regaining them when its convenient to the plot is not an interesting character development moment.

Toby was a fucking awful choice, he just comes off as some sad, dreary, dweeb as Peter and Spiderman. I've never seen the Andrew Garfield films but he also seemed shit from the trailers, he cracked jokes which was nice but his comic delivery was fucking garbage also he has stupid hair.
>>

Spider-Man 2 is more of a character piece than a superhero movie, but it's a damn fine character piece.

1 and 3 are just plain fun.
>>
>>91161877

imagine this scene happening in the MCU

>spidey loses his mask

Spider-Man in the comics is frighteningly strong. Like, so strong that when he decides to cut loose his villains literally run and hide because when Spidey ain't joking it's time to run. This is the time when faces get torn clean off.

I remember feeling a bit disappointed when I finished watching the first one. It wasn't bad but it wasn't that good either. And eveything felt fake, like it was obvious they were on a set and not in a real city.

I like the second one a lot more. It's funny because every times people are talking of Raimi's Spiderman movies, it's always with that video from SM2.
It's truly iconic but the rest of the trilogy is not on par with that scene level.

>>
It seems like for every /superhero/ movie since 2000, only Raimi's films have really felt like /comic book/ movies. Not just the melodramatic dialogue and plots, but the cinematography, color, action, and conspicuous SFX (you can almost see "thwip!" appear in text on-screen) really feel like a comic book page brought to screen. Snyder tried desperately to recreate Watchmen basically panel for panel, but Raimi's better sense for inventive, dynamic cinematography and love of "meaningful slapstick" just fit the films more than sheer mimicry could have. I'll never be over how good of a choice Raimi was for those movies, I can't imagine them any other way.

>>91162030

This plotline was taken straight from first The Amazing Spider-Man Annual. He lost his powers due to the immense guilt he felt and all the problems he was facing at the time, which was purely psychological thing. Just like in the comic, he regains it when his loved one is in danger and his determination fully returns.
>>
>>91165378
Disney already wins just by merit of not having Tom Holland lose the mask every five fucking seconds
As a bonus that also means we don't need to see Tobey shitting out bricks or Andrew's stupid hair every other scene

>>
>>91161877
Say what you want, but Raimi Spider Man might have been nice but it was also 'soulless' in that it completely ignored the core of the character. The fact that they have Spider Man take off his mask constantly, when comics Spider Man protects his identity on an insane level shows how much of a disconnect there was.

Also they constantly had things going back to Uncle Ben, like they thought Spider Man was Batman levels of obsessed about Uncle Ben. The whole "With great power comes great responsibility" saying is what underlines his character because of Uncle Ben's death, but he doesn't sit in the dark brooding over it and he doesn't have his entire life revolving around it.
>>
>>91165378
Is it wrong that I like the bottom a lot more than the top because Spider Man has his mask on and he used a crap load of web to help secure the boat instead of just a few lines and then this body?

I just realized that both pictures have the statue of liberty in them. Cool detail.

I'd say Iron-Man did a decent job all things considered, so did the first two X-men movies (I know they're Fox) and Chris Nolan with The Dark Knight. And I'm a huge fan of Raimi and probably the only person who defends Spider-man 3, but let's not blow things out of proportion.

Checked for truth.

Proportional strength of a spider, baby. On top of that there's the Marvel explanation of 'regular people have been known to lift cars to save a baby from burning after an accident', meaning that in times of extreme duress Spidey gets a couple of magnitudes stronger, or as strong as the writer needs him to be within reason. Strength and toughness is to Spidey almost what prep time is to Bats.

It feels remarkably non-corporate, which considering how fucking stupid Sony is is pretty impressive. Not being tied down to a "cinematic universe" helps in that you are able to enjoy the film without being pushed by the movie itself or the 3 mid/post-credits scenes to be excited for whatever bullshit comes next.

More importantly it fully embraces its comic book roots far more than any other Marvel or DC film has or probably ever will. It's cheesy but feels honest with the story it's trying to tell and the themes it is trying to portray.

read a spidey comic. spidey is the everyman not the autist. he's a generally likeable down on his luck guy who had plenty of girls and friends interested in him. i feel like people who watched the raimi movies before seeing spidey in any other media just now has that image of him and projects it into everything else, when really he was never portrayed as such a loser in any media as he was in the raimi movies where he's portrayed as a soft-spoken wimp most of the time. and I'm saying this as someone that GENERALLY LOVE THE RAIMI MOVIES. (it was a fine enough interpretation of peter that worked for the story they were telling, but when people say tobey portrayed peter parker from the comics well, that to me proves that person is a movie-fag)

It's because Raimi is ultimately the better director. He did turn horror on its head thrice with the Evil Dead trilogy. Snyder didn't understand the metanarrative behind Watchmen and just saw it as a "dark superhero story" that ended up dictating his adaptation of every DC property he's touched since. Raimi wouldn't have done it "panel by panel" but instead shift it into more of a spiritual successor that adapts the comics' radical deconstruction into a cinematic environment where it would have better synergy.

God, I miss this. I loathe the modern trend of making every fight scene a mess of rapid jumpcuts and schizophrenic camera shaking. Why include a fight scene if you aren't going to let us see what's actually going on? What's the point of even having one?

>>
>>91181777
The greatest mystery in Marvel for me is the question of what happened to Peter Parker's balls.
Can anyone who's read through the run pinpoint when and who exactly made him a dopey idiot?
>>
>>91183052
Some could argue it happened after Ditko left, and I could kinda see that (given how he's more mopey and self-pitying during the post-Ditko Lee run) but even looking through Lee's or Conway's or Stern's Spider-Man he's far more capable than the Spider-Man we've seen from OMD onwards.

I think a part of it is that a lot of people have a pretty bad interpretation of classic Spider-Man that they focus on the worst cliched aspects and ramp them up because they think that's what Spider-Man's all about.

I honestly kind of agree, though I'm against the whole 'old shit automatically > new shit' ideas on 4chan, but I agree about Spiderman. But I'll admit it must be nostalgia.

However something about those movies really stick in my mind. Even the third one, which I only saw once, really feels good to me. I don't know why but every time I think about that scene with the Green Goblin, MJ, and the school bus on the bridge it gives me chills.

I've never touched a comic in my life but Spiderman will always be my favorite super hero.

I disagree. I think Spider-Man just tops Spider-Man 2 a bit more. If there's anything I didn't think I'd enjoy in rewatching a decade after, it was Aunt May's character in both movies.

I like the first two very closely. I just enjoyed Peter's internal struggle in SM2 a lot more. Also the action scenes were pretty great. The train scene is still one of my favorites.

You read the comics. Science nerds arent everymans. He's likable, sure, but in a "nice guy but would never date you" sort of way.

>thinking Raimi's Spider-Man movies were good
Typical moviefags. Read a fucking comic. They were fucking terrible. Peter's characterization was so off from the source material, might as well have been an entirely different character.

I miss the days where not every superhero knew Jason Bourne level martial arts. Fuck it's boring to watch now. It's fine for Daredevil and Batman, but now everybody's doing it.

You can just admit you've never actually read a Spider-Man comic in your life. You might actually gain a little bit of respect for being honest.

Mostly because of Slott. That guy misunderstands the character (and actively hates him, even going so far as to call Peter "anti-Marvel") on a foundational level.

Honestly? I'd say it's just nostalgia and luck. It wasn't really that good of a movie series, anon. It just came out at a good time.
>>

WB topped it with Nolan Batman trilogy though

Coincidentally, both had a third finale that was a bit lackluster and the second ones were deemed the peak of each series.

I am sure Disney is weeping in their Scrooge McDuck size vaults as they drown in all the money they made for not being able to do what Sony did

The stupid people over Disney say Tom Holland version of Spiderman is the best one yet even through he can even land a hit to his opponents.
This seriously makes me want to puke. I don't have anything against Tom but the people in charge of this movie should gas themselves. Even the other faggots who played Spiderman would do better than the Disney one

Raimi is just the perfect director for a comic book movie. He has a fun directing style and understands the importance of the suspense and release of horror while also having great comic timing that all works great for the flashy moments and rescues of a superhero film.He also knows to keep the camera on the action rather than obscuring it.

I watched that dumb pizza delivery scene from 2 recently, and it fits exactly how I'd picture a comic about that going. You feel his worry, his rescue of the kids in the street is fun and uplifting, and the end is crushing while still being funny. He's the best!

Too bad the trend now is studios fucking with their directors to please focus groups or whatever (also something that hurt Spider-Man 3). We'll never get a good director delivering his vision again.

And yeah, there were writing issues and stuff in spots, but I still think the visual language holds up really well all over the place in that trilogy.

>The movie aged like milk.
We aren't talking about Civil War
>>
>>91189845
I know. Civil War was pretty dope. Raimi's trilogy on the other hand? Was good when it came out... because that's all we had. Looking at it now, its a campy shitfest.

Anyone who thinks those movies are actually good needs to take off the nostalgia goggles and actually watch the movie.

the third one it terrible.
I love the first two Nolan Bats movies
the third one was terrible.

"Top" them... maybe maybe not. But lets not act like Nolan Bats doesn't atleast tie spidey. Begins is the best of the six and tdk is top three.

Arguably:
Begins
SM1
TDK
SM2
SM3

this is proving my point. peter is obviously pissed off in this scene because it's gotten to a boiling point, but he was standing up for himself here and not in a "REEEEEEEE" way. he always called out flash on how he was a dumb chad the same way flash teased peter about how he was a nerd. oh, and you posted this out of context. liz actually asked pete out, but pete was doing spidey stuff or something so he couldn't go. the adventure was resolved early so he was letting her know he actually could go out with her in the first panel. she was obviously pissed by then. parker luck, but that also proves that liz liked him. also, betty brant fancied him as well and there was a bit of a love triangle going. after the first 10 issues or so (you know, when the character actually got to develop to who he canonically was) it wasn't because pete was an autistic nerd that got in the way of his social life, it was because he was spider-man. socially he was fine and people liked him (of course, there were people that didn't, but that's true for everyone). raimi's version of peter was portrayed as pretty socially weird. that worked for the movie, i liked the series (except 3), but it wasn't comics-accurate peter.

to take it one step further, all you have to do is look at any other spider-man media not relating to the raimi trilogy. literally any other one. not a one portrays peter the same way as raimi's peter. he was a normal guy that happened to like science, not a character from the big bang theory.
>>
>>91190608
Yeah, unintentionally. He was a complete pansy (socially speaking) throughout the whole movie.

Anon, just report this autist. He shits up every single Raimi Spider-Man thread with his autistic "IF YOU DON'T SHARE MY TASTE YOU DON'T READ COMICS" screeching. Or tell him that Eddie Brock is a garbage character that only exists to pander to 13-year olds and edgy manchildren.

The problem was we didn't get as much inner monologue to convey his feelings. He had a breath catharsis upon beating Flash.
