Comes from two things. The first being that he got into it back in the early 2000's when anyone could slap up some art and hacked story and call it a webcomic. The second being that whatever other faults he has, he generally has an iron clad work ethic. With the exception of some vacations and the Stabbening, he's consistently churned out a comic five days a week for over fifteen years now. It takes years of making content to establish a fan base. Doesn't matter if you're posting the fucking Sistine Chapel if you only put up a comic every couple of months. QC and other long runners hook people because of loads and loads of content. They don't have to even be consistently good, they just have to not suck occasionally. It goes like this. Somebody blunders across a comic page and is amused?likes it. Goes back a few posts. gets curious enough to start an archive binge. After reading literally thousands of comics, they're hooked. The only ways for the creator to lose them is to just stop posting content or to do something that really pisses them off. And that last one is iffy, at best. I swore I'd dump the comic after the Dora-Marten breakup, but here I am.

It made me laugh. The earlier strips did that consistently. I don't claim to have a sophisticated sense of humor. But that's kind of my point. I'm not saying it was ever all that good. It was something I was able to look at every day for a minute or so with a fair chance of getting a chuckle out of it. If QC were twice or three times a week, I probably would have dropped it by now. It's kind of like that loser friend who you don't relly like all that much but is always up for hanging out. Sure, you have better more interesting friends you like more, but you don't see them nearly as often and the loser is always around. So you hang out with him. The Stabbening happened because he didn't draw marigold as a hamplanet the time she wore a bikini and the SJWs flipped out cause they decided she was fat.
