I've been worried about the last two seasons of Game of Thrones being cut so short but this show made me realize you don't need 10 or 13 episodes to tell a good story.
All of the CW shows and SHIELD running at 22-23 episodes a year is just absurd, there's too much room for them to lose focus and pad out the season.
Even with Marvel's 13 episode netflix shows, you see the pacing lose its footing after about halfway through each show

Maybe I am dumb or missed it, but what is the significance of the drooling guy in the wheelchair? They go back to him a lot, in episode 7 Melanie whispers something to him and he is shown when David is talking about himself in episode 8, now that could be him flashing back to his time in the hospital (which he was talking about at the time) but I am just wondering if I missed something obvious or intentional

Rudy. He was a telekinetic guy working with Summerland. He helped rescue David in the first episode and never became an explorable character up until he suddenly shows up to help Melanie free David from Division 3. He accompanies them to David's childhood home where the Shadow King turns off the noise. The Eye follows them in, ambushes Rudy, stabs him, and takes his gun and uses his illusion powers to make him look like Rudy. When SK has everyone trapped in that moment of time in a mental asylum, Rudy is dying from his stab wound and in a strange state where he's trapped with everyone for what feels like weeks to him, while in reality he's dying, which is why he's so much more fucked up than everyone else. Syd and Carry try to rescue him. Melanie uses her mental powers to coax him back to strength in order to help David subdue SK.

I'm not sure if he died on their way back to Summerland.

Honestly, I'd say I actually, properly enjoyed about 2 episodes of the season. The whole of ep 5, and the latter halves of 7 and 8.

A lot of it felt like style over substance; sometimes it felt like it was being cool and "deep" for the sake of looking cool and "deep". There wasn't enough meaningful character or emotional expression/exploration for me personally. Overall, it was good. I'm sure other people like it way more than I do. Not sure if I'll give the second season a shot.
