Welp, another one into the garbage. Rather than make a thread just to bitch about this, though, how about a thread about moments like this in general?

Those moments where a comic or cartoon you were watching/reading decided to thrust some shitty ideology or another right into the spotlight, completely turning you off.

See I think this stuff is stupid but I honestly don't care enough about it to get angry or upset.

I just don't give a shit.

If it becomes a big thing in the comic going forward then I can see why you'd be upset. But if it's one page who gives a fuck? Getting furious about it is honestly about as bad as a tumblrina getting furious about some comic saying there can only be two genders or something.
>>
>>91149544
The Op pic is dumb because Paranatural has shit pacing as is, and spending an entire page of a character coming up with a stupid backstory justification for a character's choice of pronouns (which is but the latest in a long line of pointless SJW throws for a dying webcomic) is just retarded.

But nothing compares to the SJW swan dive that Sinfest makes. The Walkyverse is SJW trash, but it's just preachy, and has a warped sense of justice. I get the feeling that the writer of Sinfest doesn't even understand social justice.
>>
>>91149591

Paranatural moves at a glacier's pace as is. Yet rather than take a break, speed up the pace, or just fucking get on with the main plot Zack wastes a whole page going on this stupid tangent.

That's why this sucks.

I don't even give a fuck about the story anymore.
I got into this because it was full of great jokes and pretty good art.

Now it's wacky faces, pastel backgrounds, and washed-out colors.
It's time to take it off the bookmarks, I guess.
>>
>>91149806
The best thing you can do for yourself anon is just taking this out of your bookmarks and coming back to it in a year when Chapter 5 is over.

Sooner or later either this comic dies, gets good again, or becomes so shit that you don't have to feel bad about hating what it's become.

There. Condensed a page's worth of explanation into two panels. Make the rest of the page story-related.

Zack, you're not Tite Kubo. You don't need to go into the backstories of every single character while moving tangential to the main plot.

>Is using nonbinary pronouns really an ideology?
No, but loathing people who do it is, and a key part of that ideology is to create a forced equivalence between them and whatever new point of view they're trying to annihilate this week. If they hypocritically present points of view as meaningless personal preference, as trivial as ice cream flavors, they can act oppressed whenever someone says that their POV is wrong or a different POV is right, and not have to consider the idea of a different POV actually being right.
>>
>>91149293
>Welp, another one into the garbage. Rather than make a thread just to bitch about this, though, how about a thread about moments like this in general?
So you're mad that the secretive purposefully androgynous person has a reason to be secretive and purposefully androgynous, instead of falling victim to any number of tropes or cliches behind mystery characters of unknown gender

>>
>>91154874

>>
>>91154505
I think the problem is supposed to be that it blatantly features sexual minorities. From what I've heard, the "correct" way to handle them is to quietly include them as background scenery without drawing any attention to them, such as mentioning it as a trivial footnote in their character profile. Having them in the foreground, directly acknowledging their sexual identity, or even having character development about how they deal with it, is bad because it's intrusive and shoves it in the audience's face. Apparently it's "pandering" or "virtue signaling" or something.

You've chosen to hate the entire series unilaterally, despite not reading any of it, because of a single joke that the author made.

Also, you find the joke offensive because you feel unfairly stereotyped by it, in a thread where the OP fits perfectly with his alleged bias.
>>
>>91157834
Actually he as mention the tweet as well. I think having a good idea of an author's opinions as well as their willingness and openess about filling their otherwise unrelated work with them is fair grounds.

Early Pnat was best PNat. Good quiet author. Good art. Good writing.
Look at what we have now.
>>
>>91157834
Where did I say I hated it anon? I said that I never read it because of the author's mindset and intentions stepping forward with the comic, which is entirely reasonable as it would effect the comic in a way I'd dislike.

The only reason the earlier chapters were so good was because they were introductory.

Zack can't handle pacing lots of plot points, because he wants to introduce lots of stuff, because he has lots of ideas.

Also, I think his fanbase is enabling him. Due to their retarded appetites, they treat PNat less as a story and more as a mine for reaction faces and new, wacky characters.

I wouldn't even the say the pacing is that big an issue. The biggest killer was the art completely going down the drain. I could tolerate the bad pacing and even the tumblr pandering if the art had maintained or improved on its Chapter 3ish quality. Instead it went from good looking characters and vibrant colors to a nauseauting pastel bean face nightmare

Ava's Demons, for example. doesn't have the greatest story or pacing, but /co/ generally loves it because the art style is gorgeous.
>>
>>91157976
How many years has it been since this character last appeared?
>>
>>91157971
Good art comes second to letting people know how much of a good person you are if you're an egotistical jerk off.

Honestly the fact that he has a nonbinary character isn't even that much of an issue to me but knowing why he put them there is. It's pretty sad really.
>>
>>91157986
Well, yeah, the art's a huge turn off for me too, although I liked the chapter 2 quality the best for whatever reason.

I was interested in the story, though, and it sucks that this chapter has frayed so badly in particular. People bitched about Ghost Train, but Ghost Train is Nothing compared to this.

Hell, I can't even fathom that this is the same chapter Hitball was in.

With something like Ava's Demon, I don't even read it, I just look at the sexy girls in the threads

>It's pretty childish of you to polarise everything like that anon.
It's pretty childish of you to "polarise" yourself against a comic so strongly, because of a single joke that offends you, that you refuse to even read it to confirm your judgement while still acting as if your judgement thoroughly applies to the entire comic. It doesn't matter whether you call it "hate" or not.
>>
>>91158652
Polarise and polarize are both correct and accepted.

I'm not aligning myself against anything strongly, I'm just not reading it because the author's goals would go against my enjoyment. Choosing not to read something because you don't think you'll like it isn't being strongly against something. You're polarising again.

I went over how the tweet wasn't a joke in my post but you were too busy projecting a personality onto me to read it I guess.

I haven't even been acting as if it applies to the entire comic. In fact: I've said I had an interest in it, which implies that I rather like the look of the comic. I've been acting as if my judgement will apply to the comic in the future. Yet again, polarising.

This would not be something I could have read to confirm my judgement as it was the author stating his intentions before he did it. Believe it or not I can't read pages before the artist has even put them out anon, I can't see the future. I can't see if his intentions spoiled his comic at any point from then until the point it finished. All I can do is look at his attitude, recognise it as a shitty, stupid and petty attitude that will harm his work regardless of his political persuasion and decide not to read it. I have no interest in getting invested in and enjoying a story only for it to turn fucking awful half way through because of the author's caustic views on creating art.

>But anon, that's possibly the funniest, least offensive, tonally consistent way possible to introduce a nonbinary character to paranatural.
Is the funniest, lease offensive, tonally consistent way possible to make something happen with the plot?
>>
>>91160571
See this:
>>91160767
The problem isn't that the character exists in this particular form, as many have said it was revealed in side-information long ago. The problem is that this character's gender PREFERENCES and pronoun PREFERENCES are, ultimately, irrelevant. Not only from an ideological perspective, but from the perspective of a story. This entire explanation, this entire page, is irrelevant to the story.

This is the same shit people hate Furries for in real life; the fact that you have a fursona is irrelevant to every single conversation and topic possible except for furries. The fact that this character is nonbinary is irrelevant in every single part of the plot, THEREFORE, the only reason this page exists is to vomit the author's ideology at the reader.

That's what I was saying.
This nonbinary thing is completely unrelated and gives the readers absolutely zero new information on the plot or any of the subplots.
It's pure tumblr soapboxing about gender bullshit when he doesn't have time for it.

If his pace weren't glacial he could've spared this particular tidbit of information a few panels while actually getting something done, but wasting an entire page on something only tumblr and 4chan would care about is sad.
>>
>>91160914
Forget the nonbinary stuff, what even is the relevance of RJ at this point? Half the cast could be cut out with no noticeable losses to the narrative
>>
>>91163343
Johnny's cronies at least served the purpose of giving him a way to prove he's not a total dick to literally everyone and that he does have a capacity for caring about others.
Ollie has been getting some decent screen time to become an actual character, but RJ is literally just "that nonbinary thing". Anything else about RJ would've been more interesting and a better use of a page than this.
>>
>>91160571
>least offensive way possible to introduce a nonbinary character
It's being presented to people who are disgusted by the idea, who react by screaming PREFERENCES PREFERENCES PREFERENCES in capslock, who decide that they know the now-unwritten comic is definitely going to be unreadably political from now on, who choose to take it as seriously as possible so they can call the author a hateful political monster for it.

Evidently, the least offensive option possible is still too offensive.

My favorite part of internet feminism is harassing women, just like the best part of internet sjw activism is harassing brown people and attacking race-mixers.

I'm sure it's not the case but I just can't imagine a single actual born with a uterus female not being deeply offended by everything in sinfest

I heard that they wanted us to never be allowed to disagree with a female because (insert strawman here). Now I'm supposed to hate them because they dare to disagree with a female (nevermind that some of them are women).

Admittedly, that's not nearly the first time I've heard that bit of faulty logic. It's always remarkable when people try to "beat the EVIL social justice DEMONS at their own game" by finding any scraps of so-called hypocrisy they can and treating them like a trump card, but generally end up implicitly supporting the sort of inane extremist views that they like to attribute to their enemies.

Like the ever-popular "look at this white cishet male thinking his social justice opinion matters when a minority disagrees with him, what a hypocrite" which is nonsense even by its own flawed logic because the person being attacked for not being in a minority is often agreed with by people actually in the minority. And also because being in a minority group isn't a logic-bypassing trump card.
>>
>>91164991
>And also because being in a minority group isn't a logic-bypassing trump card.

And yet >>91164087 is infuriated with "feminists" for precisely the opposite reason: they judge the beliefs and actions of women on their own merits, heedless of the fact that they're the thoughts and actions of FEMALES and feminists are supposed to support females. The fact that some of the people guilty of this criticism are just as female as some individuals on the "other side" is worth noting, but that poster seems to struggle with the idea that a female would be less offended than they are.

I'm peeved at this, not because of pronoun shit, but because it has to be justified. Like, a character should be able to have whatever stupid pronouns they want, who cares, but spending a page explaining it is like it's something that can't just be how it is without explanation. It's like this character can't just be a them without some rationalization. That other gay/bi kid didn't need a page explaining how he saw a weiner and thought "Hey, that's pretty good." There better be something later that brings up something plot crucial established on this page or else the author is making a big no no. Only time will tell I guess.
>>
>>91170820
It's just a fucking page, who cares, stop making it be a fucking big deal. It's about time it got acknowledged. And the singer appears to be that agent with the weird tool that killed the train spirit, so this page is not completely irrelevant. Plus, it also explains where Max's T-shirt came from (you can see Max and his father in the crowd). The jokes are not bad either. The only objectively bad thing is Johnny's speech, especially at the beginning, and the fact that RJ's sex got revealed (it would have been so much better if it had been left ambiguous).
