It completely misses Lovecraft's tone and atmosphere. Being subtle about stuff is his schtik.

However, that is not necessarily a bad thing.
I, for one, enjoyed it a lot. It also makes sense for a Lovecraftian tale set in modern times to be explicit and horrifying.

I've never read it and I've never seen /co/ talk about whether or not they like it before, but if they hate it then I'm 90% sure that it's because someone else likes it too much.
