Were Stakes and Islands any good?

Stakes had some flaws but there were still things it did well I thought, mostly the villains. I feel like it's up to personal preference if you like it or not.

Islands was definitely pretty good, at least imo. Had more structural problems than Stakes but ended up delivering a much more complete, satisfying story.

Yeah, I think so. Neither are perfect but they both have plenty going for them. You'll be missing some context if you haven't kept up with the show, but you should still be able to enjoy them. I'd watch Varmints before Stakes.

Nothing has really topped Dad's Dungeon or Lemongrab's intro episode imo. Though there have been enjoyable episodes since.

When I think of things the new seasons have brought, I think more of characters than episodes. Guys like Prismo and Fern are pretty cool. There are definitely plenty of stinkers too tho, like that abomination they turned the Lich King into.

My fav character tho has to be the Fox with the monotone voice and deadpan delivery. Truly patrician-tier

Fox guy is pretty fun, Herpich has good delivery. In terms of snarker deadpan characters I love Shelby, anytime he shows up is appreciated by me. Cool dude.

The Moe you Know or whatever the B-mo birthday episode was called was pretty fucking good.

I used to think AT really went to shit after season 4 but having actually rewatched the series in anticipation for s8 I was extremely pleasantly surprised. It retains rewatch value and I can't explain it at all.

That being said there are still atrocious episodes. Basically anything with Betty.

Seriously though, the Betty plotline is dumb, and I don't understand why people think Simon turning back to normal is a good idea. It undermines all the character development he's gone through as the Ice King. Who knows though, they might go a different direction.
