Pic related isn't my shelf, just here to kick things off.

I really hope you enjoy Akira enough to finish the series. It's an excellent read. Also, can you sell me on Blacksad? I have the first volume sitting on my shelf and haven't started yet. Been too busy reading Saga for the first time.

I have been buying far too much as of late. But they have all been bargain bin stuff. This was all 2.50 so yeah stuff like Danger Girl was just fun cheesecake and whatever.

But that Fury Mac was amazing and enjoyed Aphrodite IX. And The Question is turned out pretty good. So a good haul even if the rest turns out like crap.

The next day i picked up a couple trades of Skydoll and loving that a lot too. They were second hand so 12$ each, still not too bad.

Question to all you with these amazing shelves. Do you buy floppies as well? But more on my mind is do you not read novels as well? It seems silly to tie yourself to a single medium. I have far more novels and none fiction books than i do comics or graphic novels (yes i am one who thinks there is a distinction, one is serialized short stories the other is a complete story, novel).

I have no good shelf pics cause most of my stuff is in storage atm. Hoping to go back to my dads farm and build a couple nice bookcases this summer.
>>
>>91089922
I don't buy floppies.
I do buy and read books, I just have them on a separate shelf.
>>
>>91089962
Mind posting that as well? If find the comparison interesting. For example most of my novels are fantasy with a little sci fi. But my movies and comics lean to sci fi

>>
>>91088408

>>
>>91089922
I buy floppies, but I mainly do it for the covers. I enjoy collecting covers for a couple of the titles I read but I never read them. Everything else, I buy TPB's and digital.
>>
>>91092915
Not really though. There are a few good ones like Coraline and 9 But of that small selection it's kinda bad.

I'm just worried that a /co/mrade spend that much money on every superhero and comic book related movie. Most of those are bad.
>>
>>91089922
I don't buy floppies.
I read mostly comics, quite honestly. Prior to university and grad school I read like novel or two a week. I had regular 1000 page reading weeks in grad school and it put me off text. I'm sure it will fade.
>>
>>91093288
Huh. I just don't have as muh time for reading novels so do fewer these days. Like you i would read a lot, a novel a week was usually my pace. Now i feel like i dont have as much time and is one of the reasons i read a lot of comics instead. It takes less time. There are other reasons of course, i love good art for one and Jodo really got me interested. But a well written novel to me is still better than a comic, but that's cause my imagination is way too over productive.

My War of Kings omni shipped from Amazon today. I hope it doesn't come all fucked up, but IST was out and said they'd be getting no more.
I am going to order the Prelude Omni from IST next week.

Last time I bought a "damaged" book from IST, I was unable to find the damage. So I took the plunge and ordered the two Buisick/Perez Avengers omnis and the fourth Hellboy Library edition.
Fyi- they have the First two BPRD HCs available as damaged as well for like 16 usd, too.

Pic related is my other recent stuff. I am done for the next few months at least.
>>
>>91093487
It really depends on the indivdual. I love a good book, but I am facinated and entranced by comic books. Especially, but not only, old superhero comics. I could go on all day about all the things I love about them. They are my preferred form of entertainment.

>>91093170

honestly, I think poetry is better suited to the comic format than stories. Both are legitimate of course, but I find that panel layout is a very good way to emphasis stansa's/lines. It can be describing exactly what is in the picture but they reinforce each other.

Actually does anyone have a recommended list for poetry comics? I doubt I would find that here cause most people read narrative stuff here but worth an ask. I have very few comics that are more prose than narative

Alright, /co/, weird question.
Anyone ever buy from Barnes and Noble and their books sometimes have a weird stickyish film on the covers? It's like someone fucked up with glue or something. I hope to God it's not some autismo coming on the trades.
>>
>>91106688
I sometimes have that with amazon stuff too. it's either residue from this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cjc1rFofR6A
or from when they glie together the books at the printing press
cum would look differently I'd wager.

Nice Shade peaking out there. I can see why collecting trades might be a problem, because the story arcs are so large. Will Dark Horse survive the next couple of years?
They are in the process of losing pretty much all of their cash cows. Star Wars license gone. Conan reprints are going to end or ended already and I don't know how exactly the deal with Marvel looks like (are they allowed to re-reprint them or will the license fall back to Marvel).
Hellboy/B.P.R.D. is going to end.

I hope not. Hellboy/BPRD is always going to be a cash cow for them, and their collected editions are consistently very high quality. The Moebius library is going to continue, and they should keep it in print if they have any sense.

I saw a page of Uzumaki and I was intrigued by the art-- but my understanding is that it's horror and I'm kind of a pussy and that's a bit dense for a horror book.

Think it's worth a buy?
>>
>>91123967
Looks like you badly need a new shelf. Also don't look into Uzumaki if you don't like horror. Just. Don't.
>>
>>91123967
I'm going to disagree with the first anon that replied and say it's worth it. My only complaint is the ending is kinda weak, but the art is top notch and the plot is solid (and kinda fucked up) for most of the book. It's nothing scary really, just disturbing. Nice omnis by the way, I'm jelly of that Hickman FF Vol. 1.

Somewhere sometime ago, there was a sad man who had to sell his entire Ambush Bug Year None floppies to Half Price Books.

Here today there is a different man who profited on that poor man by getting it all for $1 an issue.
>>
>>91145838
Welcome to the big time.
Where you finally TRULY have more reading material than you know what to do with.
My LCS sell bricks of whole series in floppies or trades nobody cares about for $2 each. Needless to say I'm stuck with enough comics for 4-5 book shelves, and 2 bookshelves.
>>
>>91145562
You grabbing Shewolf cause cheap or you genuinely liked it?
I read the first issue or three and I wasn't feeling it, but maybe I need to give it another look.
>>
>>91146454
A bit of both. There was enough I liked about the first issue that I think I'll give it another shot at that price.

My biggest problem was that it switched between being far too obvious about the metaphors and far too vague at the drop of a hat, which is something that usually gets better with experience, so I'm expecting a steady improvement with each issue.

The new Kirby Fourth World Omni was announced a month after I finally got all four of the previous hardcovers.
>>
>>91139644

>>
>>91139644
I think I got mine soft, but if you got the money I'd say go hardcover if there isn't TOO much a difference.

Half-Century War is debatably the best Godzilla comic series ever made, so if you love it (and you probably do or will) it'd be best to get it hard and not have to worry about bending or it getting messed up on you as the years of enjoying it go by.
>>
>>91146815

The classic hardcovers IMO are more desirable and also will be much easier to read, don't lament about it too much, they look great on a shelf.

I haven't read it but its from a period where Morrison has been doing all kinds of weird shit, Nameless was weird, he was writing books for an India based comic producer, and now hes running Heavy Metal or something.

Blacksad's a pulpy noir detective story that is carried by the character's interactions and the fleshed out world they inhabit. The art is gorgeous to boot. The anthropomorphic animals may mislead you to believe the story can't be all that serious, but, as with Usagi Yojimbo, you would both be wrong in that assumption and robbing yourself of an excellent reading experience. I received the third volume as a gift during our /co/ristmas threads, but have yet to get the first two. That is a grievous error on my part that needs rectifying.

I'm like twelve episodes in and enjoying it so far. It's got a neat concept behind it, even if it gets goofy sometimes. I understand there's some sort of dip in quality about halfway in due to their focusing more on Amazons' first season. I mostly got it because I like the costume and the color scheme.
>>
>>91158003
Oh god, you should've been there to watch it serially. I don't say this often, but it is literally worse than Kiva and Wizard combined.
>>
>>91158055
>Kiva
That's another I didn't mind that seems to get a lot of hate. I liked the concept, but the 80s segments were what really kept me going with the series. Wataru was very wishywashy as a protagonist and I liked Otoya far better, but it was cool seeing him come out of his shell over the course of the series. The Kiva suit was pretty cool too.

Metabarons is a "spin off" in the loosest sense. Later chapters of Incal actually render it non-canon/alternate and the complete Metabarons collection can be read entirely on its own. As much as I love Moebius, I think I prefer Metabarons. It's like a scifi bible genealogy.

>new trades of Power Rangers out
For the current series there's just the ones in my picture, along with the Pink Ranger solo trade that I don't have. It's actually really good so far and the storyline in the most recent issues seems pretty interesting as it deals with a bad end future in an alternate reality where Tommy never defected from Rita, but instead helped her to crush the Rangers and conquer the world. Justice League/Power Rangers has been a lot of fun too.

What trades/omnis/books/etc are you guys planning on picking up next?
>>
>>91190586
ordering from cheap-comics right now, already got the GL by Geoff Johns Omnis 2&3 (already got vol 1) and a New Guardians HC (because you get some stuff really cheap if you hit 75€ of total order value and that one was the only one that stroke me as interesting) in the cart. Also picked the Dark Tower Premium HC as free choice.
Going to order at least one more book but not sure what.

My LCS kinda gets ya by having you setup a pull list.
Requires at least 2-3 ongoings and however much else you want.
New release floppies and trades get a 10% discount, but you have to come and pickup your stuff once a month at latest.
So it's a lil easier on the wallet, and promises them a steady customer that is bringing all their comic budget to YOU.

Anyone pledging to the new DMP Tezuka Kickstarter? It's mainly for an omnibus edition of his WONDER 3 but they're offering like seven other new titles exclusively as add-ons, and are claiming that they'll be really small print runs for each.

I want to read and collect everything Tezuka, but dropping nearly 200 dollarydoos to get everything on offer here is pretty daunting. If the cunts at Digital Manga Publishing were more honest and better at communicating we might have some idea of how 'limited' the add-on books are, but that ain't gonna happen. They haven't even announced the project on their practically dead Twitter

Ultimate Spider-Man WAS one of the best comics Marvel had at it's peak. Bendis as hard as it is to believe was a good writer back before it went to his head. I buy floppies regularly, been getting back into mainstream stuff of late, I just read and bought pretentious hipster shit prior to that. I have 4 longboxes each full of alternative/underground/"art" comics and one longbox full of cape/genreshit, although I need at least another 1 longbox, more like a longbox and one half-size one to fit in recent floppy purchases, especially now that a lot of small press/alternative publishers are getting back into publishing floppies, which is fucking great...
I think another good question is why just devote your time to one particular niche of the comics medium but to answer your question, yes, I read novels and a bit of non-fiction, always been a voracious reader of all sorts, as well as my comics I'm currently reading Alan Bennett's Writing Home collection, really funny, warm, self-questioning and ultimately compassionate collection of writing.

...(continued), as I was saying, David B. is one of my absolute, Top Ten favourite cartoonists ever. Recently won a couple of untranslated books of his off E-Bay and got the second volume of Best of Enemies not so long back. That's Genevieve Castree's Susceptible between Puke Force and My Dirty Dumb Eyes, right? great comic and such a sad loss. Recently picked up Joe Daly's Highbone Theatre which I'm about halfway through, it's really good. I also would really like dash Shaw's new Cosplayers book and Bodyworld is a fucking amazing comic, I always keep getting around to buying a copy but there's always something I end up wanting more urgently! Caniff more-or-less created modern comic's vocabulary (in the same way D.W Griffiths created the vocabulary of modern cinema, by taking all these isolated cinematic innovations and putting them together to tell arguably the first long-form example of narrative cinema), he will always be legendary but I never "fell for him" the way I did with Roy Crane. I know man you're telling me! I just dunno how to go about it, I was thinking alphabetisation by author like I have done with my floppies but as you can see there's a huge variance in size in all the books and I'm not sure if it'd actually look any different...and like I said I have a single shelf that needs putting up so that'll stop me having to horizontally stack odd books on top of vertically stacked ones (which I fucking HATE doing!)...I mean take "C"--you've got Clowes (average sized), Dave Cooper (the really small Suckle/Crumple/Ripple trilogy and the Pip & Norton book), Jamie Coe (bigger than average), Jordan Crane (fucking tiny), Roy Crane (really oversized), Genevieve Castree (quite a bit smaller than average), Cole Closser (you can't see his stuff because Ant Colony's in the way) has landscape AND a smallish portrait-oriented book...really only Josh Cotter and Crumb stuff is fairly consistently sized, so I still think it'd look more-or-less the same alphabetised. I do, however, think that that's the way to go and like I said it'll look way neater when I get my other shelf up. But thanks also, I'm damn proud of my collection and I've got some fucking great stuff, same with my floppies, I have runs of virtually all the the big titles from the "Golden Age" of alternative floppies, loads of classic anthologies, like full runs of Weirdo and Zero Zero...all the Woodring floppies...so, yeah, it's nice to be acknowledged in a board where capes get (almost) all the love!

It's a great run but can be hit and miss.
