In fact that's my biggest complaint about Z that I wished a third season could cover. So much from Season 2 was rushed through it really left me hanging and wishing for the show to be continued to have its potential fully realized.

So, question.

If you had the power to rewrite nuPPG, how would you do it to make it unique from previous PPG iterations, and what would you do differently from nuPPG in anyway?

Mojo is one of my favorite villains in anything. He covers a wide spectrum of evil deeds, and doesn't shy away from stooping to a classic bank robbery every now and then, which I love. The class and restraint he shows on occasion demonstrate that he is a cut above the others. I think my favorite episodes of the show are the ones about his daily life.

I love the Mojo in Z, too. He's a very different character. nowhere near as competent, but he's a fun example of the underdog villain archetype Japan likes (Moriarty from Sherlock Hound, etc.).

First, I contest the notion that PPG should have ever been rebooted. The original was never canceled, in fact, CN approved a season 7. However, the director at the time, Chris Savino, felt that the team was becoming creatively bankrupt, and, after having a discussion with Craig McCracken, the decision was made to stop the show before it outstayed its welcome.

Personally, I don't believe that this should ever have been undone outside of the one-off specials. PPGZ was fine, but it was a total reinvention of the show, so of course it wouldn't suffer that same issue.

So, for a successful PPG reboot, what we need is a reinvention. We don't even have to wipe out the old canon, we just have to approach the storytelling differently. The original PPG, as well as nuPPG, was episodic in nature. No two episodes were dependent on each other for story coherency. There were ocasional references, but in general, any episode could be watched in any order. This format is a product of both a perceived lack of comprehension in children, and cable television. With the popularization of digital on-demand streaming, it is becoming less and less popular. Linear stories, such as the Samurai Jack continuation, are becoming ever more viable. As such, I would suggest going down Samurai Jack's general path.

Not so dark in tone, but short, high-quality, and linear. Set up HIM as a big bad (PPGZ got this right), give him some good motivation. Give the girls some more characterization, more visceral fights. Plenty of family moments with Professor Utonium, and teachable moments as well. The girls are just kids, don't hesitate to treat them like it. Finally, don't hesitate to give us sympathetic moments with villains like Mojo or Princess, but never forget that they are, in the end, villains.

Basically, make an entire season of the Powerpuff Girls Movie.

For Sedusa? Like >>91085843 said, she's only got three starring episodes. If you just started, you've already seen the first one, "Mommy Fearest". The others are S2E13 "Something's a Ms." and S6E13 "Aspirations."

I don't recommend you watch "Aspirations" without having seen at least a few Gangreen Gang episodes, though.

The post-McCracken episodes aren't very good but they beat the reboot

Funny, that whole description is what I kinda want for the PPGZ too if ever continued. Basically because I feel the entire reason PPG as a concept work wasn't about the girls being girls, it was that girls can actually fight and be competent. For the time of stereotypes, it was a much needed change. And it sucks how ideas now are quite reversed, in a condescended way too.

Evil for the sake of evil is all well and good, and I don't have anything against the concept. That said, I believe that any character, even the malevolently omnipotent kind, should have some kind of intention guiding their actions. For example, HIM clearly existed long before the girls, yet he never took over the world, like we see him eventually doing in "Speed Demon." Why not? There was nothing to stop him before the girls existed. This is the kind of insight into his motivations I might want answered in a revitalized PPG.

Blossom is a stuck-up priss who, while certainly the most intelligent of the girls, insists on ACTING like it.

Bubbles is fun, but she would rather spend all day coloring than fight bad guys.

Buttercup's just got great characterization. Sure, she loves to fight, but there's more to her than that. For some reason, the writers tended to use her as the subject of almost all of the "parable" episodes of the show; the crush episode, the bath episode, the bullying episode, the blanket episode, the tooth episode, all of these really teachable moments focused around Buttercup and her mistakes. Which is really central to her character.

Buttercup is much more flawed than her sisters. Sure Blossom is a perfectionist, but she is almost always depicted as a capable leader and moral guide (though, yeah, she did steal that one time). Sure Bubbles's mind can wander, and she's easily frightened, but she's never really depicted as weak or stupid. Buttercup, though? If ever a story calls for one of the girls to be mean, nasty, brutal, or just wrong in any way, nine times out of ten it is going to be Buttercup.

I believe that this is why she's so beloved: she's relatable.

I like some of the concepts they've done, but the execution is sadly lacking.
The episode that comes to mind is the one with the monotone-color villain (can't remember her name, either). That would have been a classic PPG episode if it just ended a little differently.

Make the humor more akin to the terrible adventures the girls get into. Too much of NuPPG is inferior We Bare Bears humor. Where circumstances is what cause the situation they're in instead of the act of villainy.

The whole point of PPG is that they're Townsville's very own superhero team, but they don't do any superheroing anymore. They have things happen to them instead of going out to make things happen.

Painbow is the perfect example. Would the world have been affected if that entire episode were skipped? What exactly could the girls have done to avoid that situation? The original writing was so much better because you can almost always pinpoint the exact moment the girls could have done the right thing to avoid the main problem of the episode.

in an attempt to portray them as the main characters, it removed any agency they had in the world and it sucks. It's like watching someone write self-insert fiction.

I feel nothing but pity for McCracken. This show was the one that really got him popular and to see it be used just to sell toys sucks.

Maybe they had good intentions, but the show feels so damn soulless and echs dee random that it only attracts the waaaay younger audience. While the original, while cute, had that balance of violence. It needs that violence to balance out the cuteness of it. That was the whole charm. Even with the fight scenes now, they're just cutaways. While the original intro had buttercup kicking satan in the fucking teeth with blood coming out of his mouth.

It blows my mind how anyone can blow such a fantastic idea for a show, reminded me of southpark in a way in how the show set up. Too bad people are too afraid to take risks like that nowadays.

The fanart for ppgz is surprisingly better than the ones of the original I've come to find.

Too bad the show was pretty lame, the character designs are fantastic. It needed a little more edge and darkness like the original had.

In my experience, the PPGZ fanart is better on average, because nips are for whatever reason better artists. But, there is exponentially more art of the original series than there is of Z, so there is more good art overall of the originals than there is of Z. Of course, there is an ocean for both series, but for PPGZ it's the Arctic ocean, whereas the OS is more like the Pacific..

One other factor is that Z fanart does not typically go very far off model. Original series fanart does, with mixed results.

After this reboot dies, it's going to be a long time before CN touches PPG. If CN still exists in 10 years, there are two options.

1. They will make a reboot like the current one and keep nothing from the original, but then they'd have to make it CLEAR it's not trying to be the original to not shoot themselves in the foot again.
2. They will find the ppg autists who understand the original, but then they'd be hiring the ppg autists.

Either of these choices would "do it right" in their own way, but both choices have a catch.

If I had to make a Powerpuff Girls reboot I would get the people who made WordGirl and My Life as a Teenage Robot .Those shows were like a spiritual successor to the old Powerpuff Girls show.

Sure, there's the one's with apocalyptic futures, where the girls are dead, or the ones where they're depicted as street whores, or maybe even the ones where Blossom has taken over the world. But, to me, nothing is really much edgier (no pun intended) than a largely on-model, child Bubbles cutting herself. And Octi, for good measure.
