Quick summary of CDD. I don't think the whole movie is worth going out of your way to see, except that it sets up its masterpiece of an ending. Once you account for the ending it's a better, more meaningful and innovative movie than Zootopia. Especially considering this one came first.

Movie drags a lot even for 1h15m and the characters and story aren't that interesting. Racism is bad. One of its larger successes is its love letter to classic Hollywood and especially Singin' in the Rain. Those are worth something if you are a fan of that stuff, as I am.

Movie almost moved me to tears. Most of this is borne out in the last 15 minutes, but the emotional impact of the final sequence is based on the hardships endured in the first hour of the movie.

What's magical about the ending is that it goes beyond "be yourself". Cats Don't Dance adds another genius element to its closing song: suppression only causes the suppressed group to become stronger. History has proven this.

The payoff is immense. Cats Don't Dance begs the viewer to question the history of movies. Could a black person have starred in "Casablanca"? And has discrimination warped our appetite for films? Cats Don't Dance creates an alternate history in which marginalized groups broke through discrimination in the 40s. This alternate history brings us to shame.

Awful choices made in the 20th century created ripple effects that reach the 21st. Sadly, the current demographic breakdown of Hollywood has white men at the top and everyone else clamoring for scraps. Evidence points to this not being the result of meritocracy. Cats Don't Dance gives us something to strive for.

>>91067168
I don't think it's a coincidence it's a gorilla either, for the racism allegory.

Or, you know, to degrade and eventually disappear through a mixture of dying out and assimilation. History has proven that, too. For a fun present-day example, read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congo_Pygmies#Contemporary_issues_in_society. These guys aren't getting stronger any time soon.

A self-conscious newfag? You say "we" but your post has hints you haven't been here for long. Regardless, you should realize that media studies 101-level attempts at analysis are strictly below "which cat would you fug?" in the hierarchy of intellectual activities. They are stale, boring, political and draw the same old conclusions from any work.

Reminder that WB did the whole "anthropomorphic cast overcomes big city racism" before Disney's Zootopia and also has an extra punch considering this is a shot at Hollywood themselves who always likes to point out the prejudice in society, but never themselves.

Would've probably been a 100% on RT if it were released at the Oscarssowhite craze.

If every other thread was long-winded critical/analytical observations about the political themes in /co/ content, then I'd agree with this point. But posts like >>91067244 are rare little gems around here that provide more variety of content and discussion than the ocean of "how does x character get my dick hard?"

And don't get me wrong: I also love talking about things that get my dick hard. I wouldn't be here if that wasn't a broadly accepted theme for threads. But they also become stale fast. Especially in the case of Cats Don't Dance threads, which are 99% of the time just furry/loli softcore cheesecake threads.
