So, what's the explanation for Jack being owned in the second

So, what's the explanation for Jack being owned in the second episode, despite being in full gears and in full shape and unwounded whereas, in the 3rd episode, despite being badly wounded and having lost at least half of his blood, he literally mauled though them all.

Did the daughters of Aku lost their perfect formation the moment one of them was dead? Was knowing they were just humans really making a difference, like when he thought they were robots, he thought getting close to them was too risky and they would still be able to fight if they were robots and he did what he did to them?

He seemed to have concluded the only way to survive was to kill them, at least...
>>
Second episode he was on the brink of suicide and caught by surprise.
Third episode he got his balls back and had a home-field advantage.

The Daughters are not as good at combat as Jack. They are still mentally children and have little understanding of anything other than what little they were taught in their cave. They got lucky the first time.
>>
In the first fight they ambushed him.

In the second fight he ambushed them.

Being prepared makes a big difference.
>>
He didn't get owned, he just lost his weapons. And this was while he had no idea of their numbers or capabilites, and was the result of an ambush. He only got hurt after finding out they were human.

And he spent a couple of days at least recuperating in that cave, so I doubt he was still that badly wounded.
>>
>>91061570
>He only got hurt after finding out they were human.
No, he was stabbed just before slitting the one's throat.
>>
Jack gets stronger the more naked he is
>>
Ambushes are very successful strategies
>>
>>91061485
>Was knowing they were just humans really making a difference, like when he thought they were robots, he thought getting close to them was too risky and they would still be able to fight if they were robots and he did what he did to them?
Anyone remember that scene in one of the first ep of Ninja Turtle where they are reluctant to fight the foot Soldiers up until they learn they are robots? Anyone feeling doing the oppiste here?
>>
the only weird thing about it was how they somehow lost 70% of their speed after that initial ambush
>>
How embarrassing it is having these girl be raised from birth to be trained as assassins for a singular purpose only to have all of them get outright rekt within 5 minutes?
>>
>>91061704
that's the kind of inconsistency that's rife in even the most critically acclaimed chinese cartoons though, so whatever
>>
Because the girls ambushed him and nothing more, not even numbers really mattered anymore once episode 3 came out

They show just how ill-prepared and child-like they still are by showing them watching a deer and a buck interact lovingly and then the girls wonder what they're doing or what kinda of Aku minion it is.
All they know is killing and fighting and jack and aku and they aren't even really good at that
>>
>>91061485
He accepted who he was. The mantra his father said and that he repeated to the girls (who naturally didn't understand the meaning).
>>
>>91061704
Actually they were only faster in comparison. It was Jack who was slower because of the heavy armor he was wearing and the helmet imiting his field of sight.

They only looked faster form Jack's point of view.
>>
>>91061704
This.

But also, I get that they were up against a guy with 60~ years of experience, but it seemed a bit cheap that their training shows them dodging arrows yet they easily got hit by anything Jack threw.

>>91061747
It's better and more fun to be inconsistent by having Jack suddenly be just as faster rather than having the enemy suddenly be shit.
>>
>>91061485
It's exact same formula every time though?
>Jack is near completely shrekked
>gets naked
>gathers his resolve
>utterly dominates the second round

Plus an unknown enemy ambushed him the first time and he reverse-ambushed a known enemy the second go
What's so confusing about this?
>>
>>91061704
Turns out swimming in frigid whitewater rivers for a whole day is exhausting

>>91061485

>>
>>91061559
I was thinking while I was watching that Jack would've picked up on the daughter's response to the deer, resulting in him using bones and shadow puppetry in the cave to trick them into thinking he is Aku and that the samurai is already long gone, Would've put a nice contrast from fighting 'nuts and bolts' with steel and strength and human beings with cunning.

I loved the episode how it played out but I still would've enjoyed seeing Jack's Aku impression.

In the first fight he was experiencing mental instability and was ambushed by all the sisters
In the next episode he got in the first hit taking out a sister from the start. So he started the fight with two less sisters. Also getting them on the log so he could 1v1 them helped.
>>
>>91061485
Ambush, darkness, element of surprise.

The very moment they let that first kill slide and Jack realized they're human, they were dead. You pretty much don't get second chances with jack. They were relentless enough, they should have pushed their advantage in the temple as much as they could.

If you watch it again, they do their best to make it somewhat reasonable.

First off he picks off two right off the bat. Instead of 1 v 7 it's 1 v 4.

The first he stabs through the chest in a sneak attack from beneath the snow. He's a couple of feet away from her undetected.

He hides immediately, gets another spear and Chuck's it in another surprise attack, and the first sister dodges, but the one immediately behind her takes it.

He scripted that portion of the fight and executed perfectly.

1 v 4, not 1 v 7

The last portion he kills 3 of them 1 v 1 on the log. So the first he kills and the last three he kills (or defeats) he beats 1 v 1. The 2nd he kills is an almost unavoidable ambush.

The 3rd and 4th he kills are the ones you might take issue with. Killed by a chucked spear and killed in a 1 v 4 situation. However, they moderate this by providing the explanation that the third was taken by surprise because the chucked spear was in a straight line, and the sister in front blocked her view and dodged. A little weak maybe, but it is at least an attempt.

The fourth he got at the end of the 1 v 4. He was completely on the defensive for this, hard pressed, and managed to take advantage of an opening. The girl does a backflip and he throws the knife, so just as she's coming down it hits her in the chest. Unavoidable.

The impression I got was 1 v 1, Jack wins. He killed the first 2 and the last three in a more or less 1 v 1 situation. 1 v 2 was about even. 1 v 3 and he was on the defensive. 1 v 7 and it's fucking impossible.

A lot of people completely missed what was probably the biggest indication for Jack's victory. There was a lot of use of blood for symbolism in this episode (both Jack and the wolf were covered in it when they meet) This gave the two a seance of comradery and made both more powerful as a result. This comradery however hurt the daughters of Aku. As I'm sure we are all aware, they were completely in sync with their moves and ability, but the blood metaphor from before comes back to negatively effect them. When girls spen a lot of time with each other their menstrual cycles tend to sync up as well. All 6 of them were on their period and simply did not stand a chance. This can be further noted when Ashi was screaming like an annoying bitch after the fight.

Basically his entire strategy was to eliminate their numbers as safely as he could, and then putting himself in a position where they would be funneled, and forced to fight him in single combat.

He used the environment to his advantage expertly.

>A lot of people completely missed what was probably the biggest indication for Jack's victory.

I'm just surprised that Mecha Shiva didn't throw Jack for a loop.

>no magic tricks
>Jack turns into a 70 year old man
>>
>>91062654
>hurr they were on their period thats why they lost
Realistically though its been explained several times why there was such a strong turnaround. Ep. 2 Jack got ambushed, disarmed and chased relentlessly by an enemy he had never faced before, while some cruel echo of him was hounding him to kill himself.

Ep. 3 Jack knows (truly) what hes facing, gained resolve by remembering the lessons learned from this father, and ambushed them instead. He killed two of them within a few seconds of getting the jump on them, then summarily dispatched the others in a straight fight.

I'm still wondering if more than one sister survives the fall. Would be interesting to see one retain her laser focus and dedication to killing Jack while Ashi strays from the course after realizing she was raised on lies her whole life.
>>
>>91061485

A combination of strategy, experience from the first fight, and newfound desire to survive/win.

Fighting in the snow negated their speed and stealth somewhat, while the showdown on the branch forced them into one-on-one combat and moving in a straight line.
>>
Consider that even in the second episode, running for his life and surprised by the Sister, Jack's not only able to defeat her, but actually disarms her and kills her with her own weapon.
Even before that, he fought two of the Sisters while unarmed in that dark passage and held his ground. He ran because he knew the others would catch up to him in moments. Thus it was established before that the Sisters individually are no match for Jack and only got so far because of ambushing him and always attacking in numbers.
So in third episode he killed some of them and finally forced them to fight him one-on-one.
>>
>>91061485
>>91062594
This. His plot armor is inversely proportional to his regular armor. eg the nakeder the better. Think of it like the inverse ninja law, but with clothes.

Alternatively a /tg/ answer would be something along the lines of: Jack was trained in light armor and all his heavy armor gave him fuck-huge penalties to his stats. It wasn't until he got rid of it that he had a high enough dex score to make the requisite saving throws to evade their attacks. He also took a positional advantage on the tree trunk over the cliff so that the sisters couldn't get flanking bonuses any more.

Ep2: Ambushed while mentally broken
Ep3: Ambushing while sound of mind

Like Jack is a god of combat at this point, if he spent 15 years training in the past and 50 surviving in the future, that's a dude with 65 years of fighting experience in a body in its physical prime.

Not to mention the daughters literally only know their training, they turn OOGH the moment they see anything not relevant to killing Jack.
>>
>>91061485
Jack set the pace of the fight and ambushed them first similar to how they set the rhythm of their first encounter with their ambush.
>>
Don't forget that Jack has been training and fighting for the better part of 70 years, a couple of 20-something assassins aren't going to break him when he has a clear head.

I don't see how any of the sisters besides Ashi could survive tho.

1 got cut in the neck and bled out
2, 3 and 4 got impaled in the chest

6's neck broke with one single punch from Jack, and THEN she fell

What a lot of people forget about jack is that he didn't just spend his entire life learning martial arts - he also spent it learning from dozens of different teachers and disciplines. The hardest kill for him was probably the 3rd one in their second fight. The first two were killed in his initial ambush, after that he started juggling 4 opponents and managed to kill yet another one to lower their count to 3 which he then soloed on a narrow tree branch.

Did that actually happen though. He's probably still suicidal, nothing changed on that front. The only peace he found within this episode was peace from killing a human, which is something he did far after his suicidal thoughts developed. His suicidal thoughts are unrelated and pertain to Aku and Jack's family

He can't have been at peace, if that were true we wouldn't see his mindJack telling him to kill himself again but it surely has to happen since he doesn't really know what he's doing. All he did in Episode 3 was kill those after him. He's back to Square 1 now.

Forget that explanation, what's the explanation for him not being so suicidal this episode
So far he's always had hallucinations of how he's failed and how he should kill himself. But he tore shit up in this episode with no remorse.

This, finally someone gets it

He really didn't have much time to dwell on his failures considering he was now faced with a new threat.

Also he did spend quality time with his spirit animal.

Honestly I was expecting something more chraaazyy and insane like the Three Blind Archers or the Ultra Bots. Or the Shadow assassin.
I think the snow/fog area lasted too litle, same for the small part when he was fighting in the darkness, same for the slowmotion rain. It was just too little.

Perhaps if their deaths weren't so instant then it would have looked more believable, but I guess full dexterity and full damage builds with no armor are always going to be dealt on a lucky dice throw +well placed ambush. Missing 99 of the time, but the 1 time you do strike, it's game over.

It's just weird that Jack is far more skilled to hand to hand combat and disarming compared to the sisters which were also trained in hand to hand.

Though Jack does constantly seem to do better naked and without a weapon(sometimes even without his sword) as he utterly beat the shit out of Aku in hand to hand.

Jack has close to 70 years of fighting experience. The daughters have around 20. I don't know what you're expecting.

Judging by how fast that wound healed Jack has some advanced regen as well as being biologically immortal.

Biological immortality requires some advance regen bullshit.

Aku killed her the moment he heard X9 failed, instead of killing her in front of X9 should he for some reason succeded

I cried on that episode
And on "Aku Sickness", when jack killed an innocent robot.

I found the guy who got all of /sug/ thinking that the mindful education episode of SU was gonna be about Connie raggin' it.

That was hilarious. I believed it too.

One thing people seem to forget is that DoA don't have any experience with the outside world, to the point where they don't know what animals are. Jack has a huge advantage when he gets to plan and use the environment to his advantage.
