Alex Ross is cheating
I'm a Frank Cho kinda guy myself.
love me some Bill Sienkiewicz art
80's-2000's JRJR will always be the best comic book art ever to me
>>91007667
>Alex Ross is cheating
Painting models in his studios is basically painting a still life.
Painting still lifes isn't cheating.
It's probably the biggest form of art in human history.
>>91007900
mah nigga
>>91007900
The art in Miller's DD stuff is top notch
When Tom Mandrake does well, he REALLY does well.
>>91008508
I still hate Aaron for going from a fun run to Whor
>>91008508
That entire run was worth it just for Ribic on art.
I might be alone in thinking that Scott Kolins is a great artist. It's fun to look at.
>>91008834
I think he means because Alex Ross' art is usually highly regarded
>Alex Ross
>Great comic art
No, just no. There is no dynamic whatsoever in his pages. It all looks static. That also makes all the faces he draws look like wax figures or caricatures.
How anyone can call this great comic art is beyond me.
>>91009041
I feel it's hit or miss. Sometimes it looks great, sometimes it just looks wonky
Francis Manapul/Brian Buccellato are currently the best artists alive (since Darwyn Cooke kicked the bucket). I'm on mobile, if someone got that huge spread that went over a couple of pages from their Flash run, please post it
>>91009139
I guess we'll have to disagree. Fair point on the dynamism though, though I think it adds to the painted aesthetic.
>>91009248
>We'll never get that Shazam ongoing Cooke wanted to do
:(
>>91009139
>caricatures
That word doesn't mean what you think it means
>>91009381
>we'll never get a Shazam ongoing anytime soon since DC likes our pain
Do we even know if he's named Shazam or Captain Marvel again since Rebirth?
Manga is fine too
>>91009437
>In literature, a caricature is a description of a person using exaggeration of some characteristics and oversimplification of others.
>>91009600
Ross' ultrarealistic drawings, even using models that pose and make expressions in order to draw a proper reaction would very rarely be considered exaggeration, or simplification.
Howard Porter is caricaturesque, as is J.H. Williams III.
>>91009600
A copy/paste from wiki does nothing to disprove my point, anon. This is what you're thinking of
>>91009540
>>91009139
>It all looks static
Sometimes. Not always.
His Justice art had plenty of movement.
>How anyone can call this great comic art is beyond me.
Because the rendering and detail is beautiful beyond words.
>>91009712
>ultrarealistic
you yourself said it. they are exaggerations of reality, a caricature of reality, reality taken to absurdity
>>91009888
That isn't what ultrarealistic means at all
>>91009139
I gotta agree. Never liked his art.
>>91009888
Every drawing is, by definition, an exaggeration of reality, dumbass. A caricature is an exaggerated exaggeration
>>91009139
it's great art, just not really made for the medium
I really like Eduardo Rissos use of light and shadow in his work. Especially in night scenes or in scenes that take place in bars. It worked really well with 100 Bullets.
>great comic art
>alex ross
OP already screwed up
>>91009753
When did Jason morph into Jay Leno?
>>91009888
So a photograph is a caricature by showing realism in art.
>all these niggas posting covers
I mean they're good covers but post some interiors, you fags. that's comics art
>>91009858
>His Justice art had plenty of movement.
He didn't draw Justice, he painted over someone else's linework
obligatory
>>91010424

>Bizarro just talking like a retard instead of like Bizarro
fucking Lobdell
>>91010528
At least say that it's Murata so people don't mix it up with someone else
>>91010531
This is awful art
let's all take a moment and get pissed off at recolorsinb4 "right looks better :^)"
>>91007570
I think he counts so I'm posting two Murata ones
>>91010715
step aside kiddies
>>91010637
Yeah, because that would just be silly.
>>91010791
Well it's official. I'm blind and I need to go buy new glasses
>>91008233
what was unbelievable is how easily jhw3 switched between styles
i think this is a pretty fantastic piece of sequential art.
taken from >>91010924
I couldn't find a flesh out panels or pics in proper format for Starman (Jack Knight). Everything about the comic is awesome.
>>91007900
Neat, I remember seeing this in the sizzle reel.
>>91009139
That OP is dynamic, and Im a guy who tends to agree with this. Ross overall, stiff and pretty, that KC sequence, aces.
>>91010564
Sorrentino's over-reliance on poser annoys me too, but they couldn't lay out comics like they do (I have no idea if theyre a boy or girl, Andrea is an ambiguous name) if you weren't a good artist
>>91015878
he's a dude
>>91016186
something about the motion blur feels off in that pic
>>91008834
Agreed. Ross is accused of many things, but never cheating.
Now, Greg Land...

>interiors are mostly mediocre to bad
Does anyone remember this issue?
Mark Beachum is like the master of comic book asses.
>>91019979
Here's a sample page.
Really wish I had a higher quality scan, but holy shit, Golden really lives up to his name.
>>91008636
This looks really good.
>>91007752
source?
Nguyen did some really nice work on 'Tec.
Honestly this entire era (just before Morrison's run) was fantastic.
