Look at shit like FMA. Even that series, despite actually having a bit of a sameface problem at times and a minimalist style for humans, gives the core characters distinct designs. Even if they were to wear the same clothes and matching wigs in a black and white photo, you wouldn't think any of the main cast looked terribly similar aside from the two brothers. Meanwhile, most of the characters in RWBY look like they were built off a template.

Pretty much this. I loved its campy nonsense and genuinely had a good time with it. It's different now, but I'll still watch it for some reason.

Make RWBY feel like an actual team and not just four otherwise unrelated girls who shared a room and went to some classes together.

Ruby and Blake never once even spoke to each other after their initial meeting. Ruby and Weiss never felt like the best buddies/foils for each other that they were supposed to, even after development, and always felt like they just kind of tolerated each other because of circumstance. Blake and Yang never felt like they were all that close period despite what the fandom thinks.

Actually focusing on RWBY rather than the self-insert patrol would have done a lot in fixing this.

Restart it, actually focus on RWBY and their dynamic for the first couple of seasons, instead of adding fifty different characters and leaving other key characters underdeveloped.

It's hard to say beyond that. RWBY doesn't have an actual foundation for its plot, so it's currently fraying at the edges with a bunch of subplots that move at a glacial pace because of the episode format. It doesn't help that they keep introducing new elements without resolving any of the old ones.

The show has so many errors that it can only really be resolved with a total restart and reworking. Anything else is nothing more than a bandaid fix.

I don't understand how they managed it. I know V3 was all hands on deck working 24/7 because of dat Monty motivation, but how can that regress when moving to a superior programme. It's like they finally made Poser look good, only to instantly bin everything.

And it's not just that. The story, music, acting (mostly) and cinematography (minus the 4v4 and 2v2 rounds) were all soooooo much better. V4 was a chance to ride that momentum and bring more legitimacy to the series, but they dropped the ball hard.

It's like how RvB Reconstruction, which was one of the best things RT has done, was followed by a really forgettable season directed by Gavin. They needed to bring Monty in after that to save the series, and coasted on his animation until Burnie peaced out of the show at the end of Season 10.

I do think it was a good move to a more professional modelling program, but Maya isn't always the best animating program.
It can look great, but its a steep learning curve.
Hopefully what we are seeing is just an awkward transition season and V5 will come out swinging.
The animators do have skill, and there's no better way to improve than practice.
Not like they could create another entire series, just for the sake of experimentation.
Gotta spend time on projects that support the company.

To be honest it makes me excited to see what the rooster teeth team does 10 years from now.
What if they are the next Pixar, but not corporate whores to Disney and can actually make exciting mature content.

I don't know about anyone else but the RWBY game on steam has to be the most snooze inducing game I've played that I sometimes wonder why it was even made. Every level is literally "defend this point" mission.

That's not the reason for the reboot, it's because the reboot would allow for a coherent and stronger telling of the story, there's a lot that is just tossed in that makes the story clunky, a lot of characterization that is confusing and all over the place because that character isnt fully realized

Samurai Jack is so awesome, I'm happy it's back. I went through the first four seasons because of it, and it reminded me how much I loved how they ended up doing so much with so little dialogue.

You know how people have been counting lines of dialogue in V4 to try and get a scope on their screentime? I can't take them seriously because of how they spoken lines to overall narrative value.

To be fair, there is something to it in V4 when people say Jaune is taking too much from Ruby

Because so many of the scenes Jaune takes over, Ruby is really never allowed to have a 'moment' for herself, there's plenty of scenes where Jaune has moments more to himself, like with Qrow talking to them around the fire pit.

Penny, who was closest to Ruby and who died in front of her, is ultimately dropped in favor of Pyrrha, who specifically goes back to Jaune and his feelings

Even a moment where Penny is brought up finally, It doesnt even come from Ruby, it comes from Jaune, an entire scene dealing with Ruby and her emotions goes to Jaune

Like I said, Ruby's problem is that she's just kind of here, and it's easy for anyone to take the spotlight from her because their "something" will always be better than her "nothing". Outside her scenes with Penny, Ruby kind of stopped mattering when they started the second half of V1 when she had her argument with Weiss, but that whole conflict put more emphasis on Weiss' side than Ruby's which Ozpin just kind of glanced over. Yes, she had some hero moments, but I never felt like that was because something only her character could do, but because she's the Default Hero of the show, so of course she's going to get the hero scenes.
