At the time, this seemed to be a weird hint some really weird thing Hussie was planning for the ending. Of course after GAME OVER flipped the board most people thought that was the Rapture. And then Homestuck 2.0 was considered the Rapture. And so on and so fourth.

But now, in hindsight of things like ipgd's comments on Act 7 (as in, the fact that she knew from the beginning that Act 7 was going to dissappoint everyone, there are actual screencaps where she coyly alludes to this on /co/ before sliding out just after Act 7 dropped), and now this confirmation that Act 7 was the Rapture, leads me to suspect that Act 7 was always the Rapture, and that it was always going to be a very controversial decision. In other words, Hussie knew Act 7 would suck but either didn't or wouldn't change it.

The 04 era tightly knit internet friendships of early Homestuck straight up don't exist anymore, they were outdated in 2009. The autistic gaming communities the trolls come from seem to be headed in that direction as well.

Hussie is kind of like Wheezer, in that he's a late Gen X'er who happened to appeal to early millennials, but now his old audience has grown up, and the new generation of teenage autists has no real connection to the subject matter of Homestuck.

I'm going to look like a crackpot, but: I feel like this confirms my theory. Hussie did not accidentally write himself into a corner until he needed to fix everything and just happened to pick his waifu because who else. It was not an improvised, spur-of-the-moment thing.

Instead he set up the entire post-retcon part as a loud and final "fuck you for caring about this comic" to the reader, in very Vriska fashion. If he names this part about her, then he's hinting or acknowledging that the end of the comic was meant to be about her (and thus a reader trolling shitshow) from the beginning.

He did not make a honest attempt to finish Homestuck and fail. He knew what he was doing. He sabotaged Homestuck on purpose because he either dislikes what the comic has become (and those who still read it) or sees us as little more than tools for his amusement. Likely because Vriska didn't exist then. Hussie tried to deny it since the Forumspring days, but the trolls were not designed to become so central to the primary storyline.

I am 100% certain that Act 4 was supposed to lead into the Scratch, and that the Alpha Kids were supposed to play a role similar to the Alpha Trolls. Along those lines, I suspect that more trolls were meant to die in murderstuck, but ultimately didn't, perhaps in part because Vriska's death was seen as a step too far.

Either way, I don't think that >>90990728's theory is right here. There are so many worse things that Hussie could have done to ruin the ending of Homestuck. While he likely stopped caring about the quality, the nature of Act 7 (and the fact that it has clearly been planned out since early 2013) seems to imply that some parts of the ending were rigidly set in stone.

I like how it was handled. I would choose Act 1 and cut out a lot of the submit-an-idea fucking around John does, I would show the meteor events for the post-retcon cast, give the uber bunny weapons an origin, show Jack flip the Frog Switch, spend more time developing Rose's alcoholism, have a twist that makes Calliope the final villain because it was never specifically stated in the cherub exposition whether the destruction cherub or the creation cherub was the malevolent one, I would keep doing the recaps all the way to Act 7, add a long Earth C epilogue in which the characters work out their personal problems problems. Roxygen would be canon because it had a ton of foreshadowing. I'd cut out some of The Mayor fucking around, too and make the Karkat memos shorter. Also Vriskagram wouldn't be so horribly drawn.

That's pretty much it. I actually love Homestuck and am totally okay with the way it ended. I give it a 100/100 despite its huge flaws just because the good parts are that unbelievably good. It's one of the only works of fiction that I hold in such high regard.

I guess a mind that works like that would be the type to think the ending was good. Did he really have to spell out that the cherub who's prone to killing and breaking everything is the malevolent one? I'd be interested in hearing your reasoning on it, but moral subjectivity only goes so far before it becomes totally divorced from sense. At best you could lean on Aranea being unreliable as a source of information and the morality split not being as clear-cut as she suggested, but that's less a twist and more a boring waste of exposition.

If there was a timeline where the cherub mother was impregnated instead, you'd get a red, destructive Calliope. That would have been a fun twist where an alternate Calliope ends up the villain, foreshadowed by the chess game and everything. It's almost surprising he didn't go for that turn of events, but he was clearly not feeling any of it by that point anyway.

LE also orchestrated Alternia developing a culture of violence and, to a pettier extent, ran a violent mob. Beside that, Caliborn/LE isn't the only red cherub we've seen. The cherub father was shown killing random trolls en masse and was said to be on a path of general cosmic destruction.

We've only seen ghosts of player characters (aside from Hussie, who's there as a gag), so odds are poor Mierfa and Nektan were completely obliterated by cherubdad with no afterlife. If they did go to a dreambubble, LE likely destroyed it, making their absolute destruction a father-son collaboration. If they became ghosts like Aradia, they probably took after her in being unemotional shells of their former selves. None of this seems especially beneficial to them.

Even if you came to the conclusion that mass killings were morally neutral because there's some sort of afterlife, you'd still need to establish creation/destruction on the binary of benevolent/malevolent. To do that you'd need to explain why destruction isn't just morally neutral but morally beneficial, and furthermore how creation is worse. That's what I meant by "moral subjectivity only goes so far before it becomes totally divorced from sense" - establish what's good and bad before you define benevolent/malevolent.

And the size of the reaction image was happenstance, though I'll admit to and apologize for condescension. It was uncouth.
