You're referencing the MP Evas in EOE. Her characterization there is just whitewashing her real behaivor in the series, where even Rei calls her out on being nothing more than a puppet that can't function without being an Eva Pilot. Even Rei is infinitely more independent than that.

All that would be fine if Asuka didn't use that as an excuse to mistreat everyone in her surroundings, up to and including Misato and Kaji.

There's no denying that anime has never looked as good as nowadays. Digital animation has come a long way since the dark ages of the early 00's, and art and actual animation is better than before.
There's still the problem of digital colouring though, it can't catch the intensity and textures of traditional techniques.
