his comics on slipshine were so bad
his style is shit for fap material because it's impossible to tell what's happening. It's probably better for pinups than comic pages
>>
>>90977958
He gave up on the comic nearly a year ago because he wasn't getting fans fast enough, his story was spinning its wheels, and he kept delaying updates.

>>
>>90980837
>wasn't getting fans fast enough
It kinda sucks when someone's motivation is just getting the attention and not the passion for their craft. Some people could be doing this shit for years and still have to wait years before word of mouth snowballs enough attention.

Though, I could understand if it's your only source of income and your time needs to be better spent on projects that make you money. But no idea if that's the case or not.

Yeah, it's fine.

I wish him the best, but it's not coming out anytime soon, if at all. Just like with his comic, he's spending too much time trying to come up with more stuff to add instead of actually planning things out. And he refuses to hire a programmer or anyone else, so it's pretty much a pipedream.

>>
>>90975447
>killed his website
the domain expired and he didnt see any reason to renew it. he thinks it's shit, rather than a flawed masterpiece that does action better than nearly anyone else
he also feels it's harder to get popular as a comic because it's too easy to get snowballing bad press if you violate sensibilities
>>
>>90982102
>refuses to hire a programmer
I thought he was just "making a game" in the same way a writer might "make a tv show" with seasons and "movies" and everything. I mean that's what we all do, right? We have no illusions that it can actually make it.
>>
>>90984590
>he thinks it's shit, rather than a flawed masterpiece that does action better than nearly anyone else
It's neither. He's better than most webcomic artists at action, but his pacing and structure are terrible because he's awful at revising his work or accepting that he has to remove and restructure things in a story to keep balance.

>he also feels it's harder to get popular as a comic because it's too easy to get snowballing bad press if you violate sensibilities
If he just updated regularly, in a more comfortable fashion than huge chunks at a time, and actually used social media to shill his stuff, he would have gotten his own little cult of personality. Hell, when he first started he was already getting one here on /co/ before he started taking huge hiatuses.
>>
>>90984738
Fair enough; some people do that, yeah. He seems to want to actually finish it, though, and I hope for his sake that he does.
>>
>>90984791
>would have gotten popular
that's what I think too. at one point he cut out color to speed up updates, but the beautiful creamy shiny color was half the appeal. Then again, the artist behind Demon's Mirror has a barely-any-color comic now and it's still great

I'm sure you've heard of Dumbing of Age. it was his previous (or two comics ago?) project. it started out as a lot of funny sitcom-esque jokes about working in a toy store, interspersed with funny gags about toys and the popular franchises involved therein.. then it just became a bunch of strawmanning
first strawmanning for the complaints people have about toys, then for the complaints people have about the increasing SJWing of comics (And this was some years back before the epidemic was quite so clear), then just... full blown nonstop gay all day all the time.

It still amazes me how his art has gotten WORSE since when he started. I just for nostalgia sake dropped to the front page and what a pile of shit. Tons of sketch lines != quality for fucks sake.
>>
>>90985945
I might, was the premise some loser wishes he had a cat girl and one of his drawings comes to life but she's a selfish bitch and not-hilarity ensues
>>
>>90985971
wouldn't it be amazing if it was all just a gag all along, and who we thought was the strawmans was actually the ones he approves of and vice versa
>>
>Loserz and the QLC just end while the artist just draws shitty porn on slipshine

>>90986174
the quality is better, the style is worse. ditto misfile.
it's difficult for any weeaboo artist to survive the change in internet climate over the last 2 decades from extremely supportive to virulently oppositive, the little changes they try to make always end up making things much worse by undoing the good aspects instead of solving the bad ones

You're not wrong. One of the big reasons he ended was because a bitchy, vindictive ex girlfriend told his boss/family about his (admittedly weird/sexual/offbeat/normalfag-repelling) comics and it had not only terrible social consequences but nearly legal ones as well.

It was all explained in that post I referenced of his.
>>
>>90986756
huh, maybe this isn't the same post I read. the one I read he was fully drinking the flavor-ade and apologizing for his past actions, fully and earnestly endorsing the other viewpoint.

where does he live again? hard to imagine legal consequences in a decent country but a shocking number of great artists are from various armpits in the pacific

okay so you have a problem with people making up their own language with its own idiosyncracies...
honestly that's both a really shitty and valid opinion, since most people who do it are terrible at it, and it's always everything riddled with apostrophes and rarely-used letters
>>
>>90987098
oh god yes.. but at least it ended at a pretty good spot.

>>90987036
It's more like saying "Former President William Jefferson Clinton." Except fucking terrible because it's a bunch of goddamn nonsense while they're speaking English. It's one thing to make up words for your fantasy story, but mashing syllables together without much rhyme or reason and throwing in apostrophes for the sake of looking exotic is a shit way to do it.

>>90987039

All it takes is some asshat attacking something, and any sensible person instantly wants to defend it. We didn't need anyone pointing out how stupid it sounds, taking the time to do so can only hurt your point when everyone's already on your side.

Mine was the Japanese Beetle, introduced to me by the Bone messageboards back in the late 90s. Oddly enough, the Beetle introduced me to Megatokyo by doing a satire of of the waifuist tendencies in Fred's comic.

I would love to see that go to court. Can you imagine the look on a judge's face while someone tries to use a webcomic as evidence of a crime? Having to read out the content of the strips while half the courtroom laughs their ass off and the other half vomits?
Even better can you imagine some fuckass clueless judge actually going through with conviction, only to have it appealed up to the supreme court and thrown out while everyone involved in the previous trial is disbarred. This would be a good plot for a comic, actually. I've never seen a court-drama webcomic before but this would be one of the less boring options.

You're right anon, since YOU find it self-evident and think anyone who expresses distaste about such a thing is an asshat, that means that any SENSIBLE person would quickly take an opposing position, regardless of whether they agree with them or not.

Like seriously, add as many modifiers and excuses as you like, your logic is fucking bonkers. Not everyone, and certainly not every sensible person, is going to defend something just because they dislike another poster or their level of hostility. It's not unusual for webcomics to get print collections, especially ones established as Megatokyo. Getting distribution as far as Barnes & Noble is definitely more than it deserves though.

I'll admit to having some books by Michael Poe, which I bought from him over a decade ago, the one time I went to an anime convention.

afaik as the book-making process began to bear fruit, the author had an epiphany of sorts. Something about feigning or celebrating depression to get ahead in the 'art world.' Rather than delivering a book, he instead decided to burn customers' books and give things to the homeless instead.

I can vaguely recall other webcomics and comics that have made me laugh harder with more brevity, but not laugh as consistently.

8-Bit Theater was really impressive in that regard, there's a story of sorts going on in the back and yet the humor never dips too low or absurd. More impressive is the simple art managing to deliver this perfected formula. It exceeded Bob and George in fact.
It's a thoroughly amusing read throughout despite the basics it's built around.
>>
>>90988638
Basically he made a super funny post about faking depression to get money. IMO it seemed like a joke, but apparently there was enough of a backlash that he wrote another post. He then proceeded to get hassled a lot about the kickstarter and the books. He then said that he would burn a book for every email he got about them not being delivered. He did it, made a long post about money and philosophy then shut down all his internet presence. I'm sad that his Micheal Keaton comic stopped. It also seems like Patreon would have been the answer to his philosophical problems with money stuff, if it was around then.

Dead Winter turned 10 years old earlier this month.

Art looks a lot better but you could archive the whole thing in an afternoon all the same. Honestly my view on the comic changed when I found out the creator was a middle aged trans dude and that the comic's protag is essentially his idealized self insert. Even that line about laser hair removal near the beginning seems weird now.

To each their own I guess. It'll never be finished.

I read and relate to his last few rambling posts in some way. I get a little eccentric at times and although I think he's a piece of shit for what he did in general, some points he made hit me at my core.

>>
>>90986509
Creative people who would be inclined to make comics and art actually tend to be more neurotic, speaking generally. It's not just a meme. Although of course there are plenty of physically and mentally healthy comics people you never hear about because they have no conditions to speak of in the first place, so you don't hear about it.
>>
>>90987098
I remember this. I think I remember that someone tracked the author down to ask about the comic. He basically said he was prepped to devote all his time to the comic because of the following it got, but in the end couldn't bring himself to stretch out the story, since it felt forced and didn't come to him naturally anymore. He went back to programming.

Heres one I don't think I ever see co bring up, but I loved it when I was younger. Its a shame that it never actually really got completed, but my god it was getting really good later on from what I remember. The art style imrpoved immensely.

On another note, looking for a picture of it, I only just realized now that this webcomic was made by Ian Jones-Quartey. Yup, the same Ian from Adventure Time and Steven Universe, and the creator of the recent show, Lakewood Plaza Turbo.

Its called RPG World. Give it a looksie if you want, it gets very enjoyable.

It has its ups and downs. I remember it started sort of like Penny Arcade where it was geek humor with the punchline being "VIOLENCE lol!", but veered away eventually.

It's kind of like if the tv show "Supernatural" was pitched as a comedy but stayed just as gruesome. If you don't mind the fact that the author has a raging boner for word play, it can be worth a read.

Also worth noting, It's gotten so lore-heavy that the author includes a glossary under each update to point to previous chapters when there's a plot-point being referenced. Kinda hilarious when you think about it.
>>
This seems like the best place to ask.

I read a webcomic years back that I really liked, but when I read up to its stopping point I realized the author hadn't posted anything about it for years and I was really sad. I'd like to reread it but I can't find it for the life of me, I'm hoping maybe someone will know what I'm talking about from what I remember:

>It didn't have an actual title as far as I know, it was hosted on the artist's website which I think had their own name on it
>It was traditional art and had a really surreal story, started out with a green alien man landing on ancient earth and mating with the rulers to create a line of essentially demigods
>There was a god named Ain Sof or Azazoth or something similar that had like a horse's body and an inhuman torso like a centaur
>One of the demigod children was a lonely blind girl with a rag around her eyes
>At some point a transexual alien army invades and they have pink bodysuits with holes cut out for their nipples and cocks

Does any of this sound even vaguely familiar? I can't for the life of me remember the artist's name, or any character names, which has made it pretty much impossible to search for. Hoping someone else has read it.
