The decepticons in the first movie worked because they looked menacing and their military vehicle modes left very distinct kibble.

In contrast, the excessiveness made the autobots look off, though still distinct by colors.

Then they started throwing loads of characters and the complexity killed the uniqueness.

The autobots became weirder, and the decepticons generic and indistinct.

The first movie had ten thought out bots. In the sequels they kinda stopped caring.

I hope they introduce some proper femme bots in this trilogy.
