No, the way i see it, all through the season i would say Lana would get constantly cock-blocked by Helga, kind of like Brainy does to her. Helga wouldn't even be aware of it or how often she "saves" Arnold from Lana.

But Lana notices and internalizes these events, realises that Arnold and Helga have actual love (even if it's just one way at the moment) and all she has is her damage.

Then it can go however dark you want it to go (or however dark you're allowed to) Preferably something like image related.

Miriam is one of the most believable alcoholics you will ever see. Code words for drinking(smoothies), lack of interest in your families lives (neglect of your youngest daughter), what looks like an almost loveless marriage( her telling Olga not to make the same mistake she made) but capable of doing better if a situation calls for it(running the family business or winning the mechanical bull riding contest).
She's a quiet drunk who has withdrawn but sometimes shows what she can do,if she has to.
