One Piece has very little filler over all, what makes it terrible is the padding. They stretch out the canon parts to make them last as long as possible. A manga like one piece that comes out weekly with like 19-25 pages per chapter can be adapted at a rate of about 2 chapters per episode, maybe slightly more or slightly less depending on the density of information in each chapter and if the anime team takes liberties with some scenes or skips over others.

But Toei adapts One Piece at somewhere between 1 and 2 chapters per episode at the fastest. At the particularly slow points, like the worst parts of Enies Lobby or Thriller Bark, they were going barely 1 chapter per episode, and later on they do even less than that.

There's this huge gulf between Jojo's memes and its actual content. Because a large amount of the online hype for it comes from a cancerous fanbase that probably don't really watch the show. I personally know a Jojofag who has only watched part 3 of the anime. Not part 1 or 2, not part 4, refuses to even touch the manga. Yet he still spams all the latest part 4 memes on his facebook page. That's the fanbase you're dealing with, and that's why the viewership is tanking.

The One Piece anime was already well past the point where the adaption turned to shit so good riddance. I love the series and the dub is decently handled but the anime is already not worth watching anymore, especially at the pace of one episode per week. It's just a tumor on the block they could be using for shorter, more current series' that'll garner more interest.

It's a shame they replaced it with fucking Tokyo Ghoul though.

If you're really invested in the anime just continue watching it until the end of the current saga. I'm pretty sure most of it is available both dubbed and subbed already on the official site.

Once it hits the timeskip you should absolutely be shifting over to the manga though. The pacing reaches a point where it takes 123 episodes to cover a 100 chapter manga arc, which is inexcusable, and the animation quality goes completely down the drain. There's a colored version of the manga that's a few volumes behind but would probably make the transition to a comic format easier at first. Use sites like KissManga or MangaReader if you don't feel like torrenting or shelling out the cash for the official volumes.

Once you're caught up Mangastream releases chapters the fastest, but if you're willing to pay for the official release and wait a few extra days Viz's translation is far better.

Dude just admit that One Piece wasn't he best choice for Toonami.

If you can find rips of the Viz translations, go for those. It's not only a good translation, but fanmade scanlations for One Piece are usually garbage to the point where even /a/ prefers the Viz version (and they usually hate official translations). Only remote issue is that Zoro is called "Zolo" like in the old 4Kids dub, but that's easy enough to train yourself to correct in your head.

In terms of watching certain scenes from the anime, you can find pretty much any notable scene on Youtube. There's a few people who upload important scenes as the dub gets to them.

For a while there was a project to redo and update the old One Piece manga scans, but it only got as far as Skypeia before the project fell apart. A shame, cause they were really nice high quality scans with completely redone translations. But Viz is pretty good, and I find "zolo" far better than the horrendous chink scans. The digitally colored manga scans still use the shitty translations from late Skypeia to early Enies Lobby but the actual image quality is very good, so I usually recommend newcomers to read that instead.

Honestly, it's better than I expected. The only main character with an actively bad voice is Caesar, and since he's dead we don't have that problem the rest of the series. Everything about Diskin's Joseph is perfect, and I will fight anybody that disagrees.

That said, I agree about JoJo's fanbase being simply loud without being as large as many would think. It doesn't help that a lot of people that care about it now via the anime only care about stands and shit. It means Stardust will likely do a lot better in the ratings, however.

As for Part 5, the original translation is generally agreed upon to be shit. I think there's one that's partially finished that's a lot closer to what it's supposed to be, but of course they're likely animating it as we speak so anybody that couldn't parse it has that option. 6, 7, and 8 are all very good, so it's a shame some people just stop at 5 (although I hear that people skip it more often than stop).

No, it really won't. Cause like people have been saying those people who "like the stands" never actually watched the anime, only clips of it. This is what people don't get. DeMarco has said like a million times that older shows don't do well on the block aside from DBZ. But OP basically IS an older show; the Thriller Bark episodes are from 2007. Hardcore OP fans saw these ten years ago, and even casuals are probably past them by now. And if you're not, you can legally stream all the episodes for free, instead of waiting week after week.

I imagine they'd recast a lot of the voices in a full dub to better match the tone of the Part 1 and 2 dubs. Old Joseph sounded a lot different in the last episode of Part 2 compared to his voice in the test dub even though I think I preferred the test dub voice so I imagine others will have their voices changed. I agree about not liking Abdul's voice in the test dub, I'd hope the final product has something closer to his OVA dub voice.

Actually, it was Richard Epcar as Old Joseph in both the Part 3 test dub and the last episode of Part 2 (with an accent). From that one clip of the Part 3 dub that was released a while back, it sounds like they're dropping the accent so he'll sound closer to how he was in the test dub.

I mean, the show is airing in dozens of countries and is one of the most watched cartoons in the world, he can't possibly keep track of every channel it's on.
