Of course it did, because the original exists and was there to boost the nostalgia of the live-action one. The live-action movie is so bad it NEEDS nostalgia to make its money back. The original got its money back through genuine interest.

Also, the live-action is just Disney trying to capitalize on the "Bring the Broadway experience home!" trend that's been cropping up a bit with some live action musicals. Who cares if it exists really. It's for parents who want to re-live seeing Beauty and the Beast and who will never afford to see a real Broadway play.
