>>
>>90779880
I was hesitant reading this is from Bleeding Cool so I checked what the source is. According to the article, the cancellation is evidenced in the March and April Ghost Rider issue solicitations. Now, I don't follow the solicitations to know if this is concrete enough evidence to decisively say this is true, but nobody else has even reported on this yet, and there's no statement from Marvel.
I'm taking it with a grain of salt, personally.

What a fucking waste. All the hype they had with Robbie's introduction on Agents of SHIELD, and they fucked it up.

I'm hoping they do something good with Robbie in this new 'Make Mine Marvel' schtick, he really is a character worth keeping as a mainstay.

I suppose worst case scenario, they can use Phil and May's appearance in this title to drag him into a SHIELD/Agents of SHIELD book. They can provide him with targets they want killed that would satisfy Eli's thirst for blood, and keep an eye on Robbie's rapidly growing powers.
>>
What a goddamn shame, but not surprising given how piss poor his book has been handled. Robbie Reyes was easily one of the VERY few non shitty things over at Marvel, and they pissed him away because they wanted to use his book as a vehicle to sell other characters. Marvel literally doesnt know a good thing when they see it. Nothing is built up anymore, or fleshed out, just advertising for the next upcoming event and crossovers no one gives a flying fuck about. This is what killed Ms Marvel too, besides the pandering
>>
>>90781327
>SHIELD/Agents of SHIELD book
Isn't it more likely he'd get thrown in Secret Warriors? They implied that some non-inhumans would be joining the team. Replace Kamala and Moon-Girl with Robbie and Druid and you've got yourself a solid Secret Warriors roster. They can even do it as a package deal. Robbie gets to go ham while Druid is there to contain Eli if Eli ever gets too out-of-control.
>>
>>90781680
Actually, keep Kamala and swap Inferno for Robbie. No reason to have 2 fire guys, and that way you can have some KamalaxRobbie fun.

>Quake
>Karnak
>Kamala
>Robbie
>Druid
Nice mix of OG Secret Warriors, muh syngergy, and nuSW's status as an inhumans team. Robbie for synergy, Druid for OG Secret Warriors, Karnak + Kamala for inhumans. Quake fills all three roles.

>Nah, people must just hate Robbie.
>>
>>90781844
> KamalaXRobbie

They never had any chemistry to begin with and I don't understand why people shipped them, aside from the reason that they were both nonwhite and had books come out the same month.
>>
>>90781680
That's another option too, but it'd take more time to set up (Robbie's not really a team player unless he's forced to be atm), and if the Ghost Rider title is ending even more abruptly than we thought, they might not be able to make it work.

If they go with teaming Robbie with AoS, they can just add a few extra pages to #5 after the battle is all said and done, either with Phil and May dealing with Robbie directly then and there, or hinting towards it in the not-yet-planned AoS title. Plus, it has the added kinda-bonus of tying in the book with the TV series, in a roundabout way.

>>
>>90781889
Better: Kamala gets a crush on Robbie which he's too dense to pick up on. Quake proceeds to grab him after a mission cause she got dat post-battle horny going on, and fuck his brains out and Kamala sees/finds out. Hot super-spy that's DTF vs. the sheltered Muslim girl who freaks out from holding hands. Meanwhile, Robbie is too busy brooding over Eli's constant whispering of murderous bloodlust into his and constant worry over his brother. That's a fun dynamic there for some easy love-triangle drama if you wanted to go that route.

No he fucking isn't. I get you probably grew up with Ketch and have some nostalgic value attached to him but face reality man. Blaze is the most popular. Accept it and also accept that Ketch is not coming back unless Blaze dies or something.

No one gave a fuck about Blaze until after he stole everything that set Ketch apart from him. He took his whole schtick then started getting focus because he was the "original" despite his newer portrayals just being "Ketch, but less interesting and occasional references to stunt driving."

How? I'm serious, I read ANGR and he wasn't particularly interesting. The appeal of the entire series was Moore's art and that was evident by any interest in the book dying off when he left. Moore drawing a silent, destructive Ghost Rider was great. Robbie himself is a fairly mediocre character.

He might still pop up but you can sure as shit bet the next Ghost Rider book is going to be Blaze again, sadly much as I'd prefer to see Danny get a starring or prominent role again.

He technically did. There was a short Ghost Rider solo story at the end of the first issue.

Other than that, it was mostly a really shitty Cho & X-23 book, with Silk and sometimes Robbie.

the appeal is an 80's exploitation type story about a guy on fire fucking up gangbangers in his sweet car.

Better to go looking for All-New Ghost Rider trades, and maybe even the Ghost Racers mini-series. Both are much better than this series turned out to be.

Whose idea was it to have the first arc be a New Fantastic Four homage in which the star of the series is treated as an afterthought? I'm sad to see it's coming to an early end, but this is hardly surprising
>>
>>90785887
I think it's unfortunate too. Her solo series was an immensely pleasant surprise after how horrible her debut in ASM was. Meanwhile, I thought Spider-Gwen's series had the potential to be great, but that potential has been completely wasted.

It also happened to All-Winners Squad: Band of Heroes by Paul Jenkins and Carmine Di Giandomenico it was suppose to be 8 issues and only 5 were printed.

The worst thing was that they both finished the comic but Marvel cancelled it and they dismissed the guy who was editing for some reason.

It was an interesting story that spanned from WWII to present day and it involved Loki, Cap, and Nick Fury as well as other WWII Golden age Marvel heroes.

>are Marvel trades only 5 issues?

They're generally 6-7 issues (eg Angela: Queen Of Hel and Hercules). However lately the really bad sellers have ended at 5 (Solo, Foolkiller, Black Knight, ect).

Generally (but not always) when they cancel them with 5 issues they pad out the trade with 1-2 old issues. I'm guessing for this they'll throw in the Ghost Rider X-Mas Special Infinite Comic.

I've purchased every female Spider book since Mayday's first
I love Mayday
it's the perfect superhero series to me and it constantly confounds me why it gets no reprints or omnis while Miles/Gwen get so many already
goodness gracious her series was so genuine and reat
DeFalco/Frenz struck lightning
I din't particularly like all the MC2 spin-offs but I can't fault anything in any of Mayday's stories subside a little bit of rough art which I blame the inking
But Cindy was like a condolence prize, finally a character that seemingly captured the spirit of a try hard otucast just with so much willpower and heart, seemingly overcome with emotions while balancing rationality. It's seemingly diffrent from all these new "tween" series and actually is the only time I've genuinely enjoyed quirky, including Ms. Marvel (which seems like weird fetish fanfic most the time)

>He's yet another Inhuman, perpetually tied to the rest of the Inhumans and whatever shitfest they get involved in so that they can cling to some level of relevance (Inhumans vs X-Men).

If we're using that logic, then every mutant character isn't original because they're all Yet Another Mutant

>Agents of SHIELD is killing it
nobody cares about it, even with this version of Ghost Rider on it ironically

So are we writing angry letters about this? I'm writing angry letters about this.

I'd write to books more often but most Marvel books only include the email address on every third issue or so. Smith seems to be bucking that by actively asking people to send in letters, fanart every issue.

Johnny and Danny's story ended almost 7 years ago. Let them rest.

I know that, anon. I'm still holding hope though. It's not like Robbie Thompson would lie to me right?

>then every mutant character isn't original because they're all Yet Another Mutant
Correct. This is why Marvel's "Wonder Woman" isn't part of the X-Men.

Having not read Mosaic, I gotta ask, what makes him so bad? I saw him in IvX but there he seemed more like a plot device than a character. But there's no way he's written like that in his own book, right?

Farewell, Robbie. You deserved better.

It's just really badly written, man.

>meanwhile, mosaic, moon girl, squirrel girl, patsy walker, america are still not cancelled
Mosaic and Patsy are cancelled. America is only one issue in and we don't even know the sales numbers for it. MG and SG are all-ages books and Marvel keeps those on life support so they have something to point out when asked if they had comics for kids.

Meanwhile, this had truly awful sales and it being cancelled isn't a surprise. The sixth issue being lobbed off is, but that's likely because it's the start of a new arc. Hopefully they turn what would have been the second arc into a mini.

>Everyone just keeps saying this
Fuck, now my curiosity is piqued. I don't wanna buy his book just to see what exactly 'it's badly written' means though.

Ignore >>90799819, Mosaic is fine. Not the strong start that Kamala and Robbie had by comparison, but the book itself is fine. It actually does the "obligatory teamup issue" well by having various in-story justifications instead of just lol Ms. Marvel meets Wolverine.
>>
>>90800028
>>90800412
Okay, I read a few issues and I see what the problem is now and why people can't seem to describe it. Book itself IS fine. It's just got no hook. It doesn't give me any reason to care about the character or his life.
Mosiac himself is fine, but he's kind of a narrative hole. He has no agency. He doesn't really act on the plot, he's just kinda swept up in things that happen to him. Which I guess is appropriate for the nature of the character and his powers, but it's not an engaging read.

It's not so much that it's 'bad,' so much as it's just 'not good.'
>>
>>90789389
This is just not true. He had one OEL manga through Tokyopop 10 years ago and 1 series that ran for 1 year back in 2009. All of his other published work I can find is American stuff.
>>
>>90789629
How is the '90s series? I've always been interested but on the other hand, Howard Mackie. In fact, is there any kind of good chart regarding '90s Ghost Rider stuff?
>>
>>90800993
>He has no agency.
I kind of like that. Normally I don't but it works fine in here and is a nice twist on the entire "my whole life was a lie" thing. "Morris Sackett" isn't a real person, just a creation of his greedy, unscrupulous father in a way so he has an actual reason to reject his identity and his powers work with the narrative in that sense.

I'll also give it a pass because it's the writer's first comic work but he's already shown himself to be better than most of who Marvel has been getting over the last year or two. It's just a book that never really had a chance in all honesty. The market absolutely does not seem to support new characters (even Ms. Marvel's sales are in the tank) unless Marvel basically forces them to and its obvious when Mosaic didn't get the initial buzz from the announcement they hoped to get they gave up on him before the first issue even came out. Tying him into the despised Inhumans was another strike against him. It's a book that'd work far better in something like Marvel Knights where sales expectations wouldn't be as high but the book was killed right in the crib.
>>
>>90801412
Samefag but the forced overshipping didn't help either which kind of made the book look like a joke. Again it sucks because it's not a bad book or anything but as opposed to something genuinely bad like Hellcat or pointless brand overreach like Solo it's going to wind up being the book likely most emblematic of Marvel's current problems.
>>
>>90800993
He's just kinda a shitty character that I cannot identify with at all
a former professional basketball player who used to get a ton of bitches
if he was like a small college player not good enough to cut it but tried really hard it'd be way more endearing
cool looking art but I don't like how his power is really depicted either
too wannabe meta
>>
>>90801474
I liked Hellcat...
its genuinely kinda fun unlike Squirrel Girl, Moon Girl, Miss America and Hawkeye
>>
>>90780161
>Which is why people didn't fucking buy it.
that and the hideous design and art
>>
>>90801412
Yeah, I can acknowledge that it's clever on a meta and thematic level, cause he has no identity and his powers force him to lose his identity when he possesses someone. And it works with the name of being made of a bunch of different peoples' memories.

But emotionally it's just not very interesting at all to me. And if it were a character study about his journey to discover and define himself, that would be one thing, but that bit with him meeting the Inhumans and Medusa naming him seems to imply, what, that the Inhumans will GIVE him an identity? When the Inhumans already come off as like a weird creepy cult?

Also with how his powers work there's no real sense of threat or risk. He doesn't need to fight, since him moving out of a host makes it unconscious, so he can just win fights by spamming possession like in that confrontation with Pop. It doesn't matter what kind of gear or powers his opponents are packing. Plus his astral form is both invisible AND intangible. He's just too SAFE. There's no investment.
>>
>>90801530
>I liked Hellcat...
Just shut the fuck up.
>>

>When the Inhumans already come off as like a weird creepy cult?
The Inhumans not coming off as this enough is part of the problem. They are a weird creepy cult.
>>
>>90802174
i'ts not bad besides like two or three jokes per issue that don't hit
Immonen's Hellcat wasn't that good either
>>
>>90802075
I do agree on the Inhumans bit and think that is the biggest detriment of all to the book but this is Marvel so no way were they not going to allow him to not be an Inhuman. The idea of a guy trying to create his own identity from the lives he experiences after finding out his own was a lie is a good enough hook on its own.
>>
>>90802692
The only way this would work is if later he comes to reject the Inhumans as well and goes on to become his own thing. Which I guess might have been where he was intended to go, since he was established since his very first scene to not be a team player and have a disdain for 'grinders.'
>>
>>90803213
Yeah, but cancellation kinda gets in the way of that. You can't have him have an arc devoted to bailing on the Inhumans when he only just met them and barely knows them yet.
>>
>>90787446
>>90787819

Marvel's been testing smaller trades recently.
some 3-4 issue ones. Generally if they think it'll have less than 5 issues they include some backup materials (back issues that are somehow related, or design processes/sketch images) to pad the page count.
>>
>>90789870

but the issue that they solicited and is no longer coming out was continuing the 1st volume's story and setting up future stories (based on the solict text)
