It makes sense for Jack to act the way he does (stoic, polite, honorable) because he was raised as a prince in a Japanese family and received a lot of formal training from teachers around the world. The way it was choreographed I get the feeling that the chasm that broke up the fight saved him from her not the other way around (not a good way to build tension for the inevitable rematch).

All of Jack's training was explained. All of his skills and abilities as a fighter were explained. His character was given a great deal of context as far as his physical abilities were concerned.

Even then, Jack has several moments of struggle and defeat. When he has to overcome something, it's explained how he manages to overcome that obstacle; he's not just magically granted the power out of nowhere.

Jack's story is one of discipline and perseverance. He's not some jackass who falls ass first into good luck and amazing skills without explanation.
