That's what exactly what he was doing BEFORE the Diamond Zoo bullshit. And his search for answers led to his dad getting kidnapped and everyone almost dying.

It's likely that Steven feels guilty and is avoiding asking questions for a while because anytime he does, it leads to disaster.

But it's gonna happen again sooner or later.

Again, why not just ask Peridot who has intense knowledge of the history of Homeworld + knows about current Homeworld? The Gems are giving him round about answers, but they're not the only Gems on the planet. He might not want to bother Lapis, but Peridot is totally game to answer Steven the best of her ability. She fucking loves sharing her knowledge.

To me, the truly defining moment for the character was in the test episode, were it shows that Steven's concept of caring is extremely shallow and inoffensive, essentially making him for lack of better term, a patsy and a huge doormat for everyone in the end, despite any bravado or actual strength he displays.
If he truly cared about the Crystal Gems, he would have called out their bullshit right there. "Lets do what makes everyone happy" isn't a leader thing. A leader takes control of the situation he's in.

So the main problem that everyone here seems to have about Steven is he's not fighting bad guys and you guys really should realize how weird of a criticism that is. The shows not about beating up bad guys. It's about making friends with angry people. It uses the trappings of 90s Shonen and Shojo where most obstacles are defeated with a combination murder punching and friendship lasers but instead of murder punching and friendship lasers we just get...friendship. Of everything. It's probably gonna get darker for a bit cause we're in the Empire Strikes Back phase but we're seriously never gonna get Mega-Steven punching Ruby's heads off and Steven will always be overtly emotional because in this show that is a strength and though it is a burden it's not something Steven will "get over" so he can poof rando background baddies while you get pumped up for the main fight.

This character, I think, is inexcusably horrible. So much so that he made a show with lots of cute characters and great voice actors laughably insufficient, just through his worthlessness as a protagonist.

Steven, at the very least, tries not to ruin everything all the time, and has some decent skills to help his friends.

Well that's the other thing I think SU has tricked everyone into believing. It's just a Slice of Life comedy show that sometimes has "lore" episodes. I mean fucking Garnet played Beat Meat for like a week or so straight.

It's probably a combination of having a bunch of cooks in the kitchen but characters vary in legitimately every way they can from episode to episode, character models to character motives. It's kind of like a looney tunes cartoon where everyone cries a lot. I think they should either choose to be this big LORE series like ATLA or be a sorta Japanese SoL show like that Dragon Maid show.

I used to love this show, but why did they make Steven's voice so high pitched? Every time he talks it's like knives going into my ears, why did they change it?
