First post almost best post.

Specifically you need to practice things you're bad at. Move outside of your comfort zone. If you're just starting, pick an artist or two you like and mimic their styles for awhile until you get comfortable.

trace other artist until you reach the point you can replicate their work flawlessly, then use that knowledge as a base for creating your own style

Draw realism until you can draw accurately from imagination, then you can move to stylization. Cartoon styles are just using different exaggerations of different features, realism is still the base of where people draw from, and how people judge art.

Draw stuff. Look around you and just draw whatever is in front of you, spend time drawing basic stuff, avoid chicken scratches and using your wrist too much. Once you have decent line work move on to drawing other things and people. Read books and stuff on anatomy and look up stuff on perspective

Their honestly is no definitive answer to this. I could point you to /ic/ but at the end of the day everyone takes stuff in at different rates and it really just depends on how far youre willing to go for the results you want.

Basically draw shit until it's slightly less shit.

T. Shitty artist that's only been doing this for under a half a year now.

Draw cartoons.
Or good John K Curriculum + Preston Blair and go to town following those instructions.

Everyone who says "draw from realism" in response to questions like these is a fucking tool. Is OP just looking to draw cartoons a hobby? He doesn't need to go all out like other experienced artists. Not to mention there's a SHIT TON of people in the animation industry who suck at life drawing and still have fucking jobs. But they got the job because they're really good at cartoony drawings.

Drawing from realism doesn't make you good at cartoons, it just makes you versatile. You can still learn 3D form and construction without ever once drawing a realistic human. And if OP only wants to learn how to do simple Looney Tune shit and never any characters as complex as Tarzan, why does he need to first learn how to draw an elephant to get to that point?

Hell, if OP wanted to draw like Roald Dahl his whole life, that still wouldn't be the wrong path to take because it clearly worked for Dahl.

This, stop beign so pretencious and just draw a lot of what you like
>>
Others have said it, but whatever. If you're looking to meme around and have some fun drawing your favorite characters, just practice what you like. You'll get the hang of it eventually.

If you want to branch out from cartoons, it might be better to take a more general approach with Loomis and drawabox for a constructional approach or Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain for a more observational approach.

I liked this video: https://youtu.be/vM39qhXle4g

This dude learned to draw pretty quickly, but the same principles apply to a more reasonable pace.
