It's very fast-paced, and there's a lot of slapstick. I think it's a good example of doing a fast-paced humor-driven show right without making it feel too overwhelming (Mighty Magiswords would be an example of doing it wrong imo). I'm not familiar with Hot Rod so I can't compare, but the humor isn't very sophisticated. Fantastic Mr. Fox is generally smarter, Buddy Thunderstruck is more in the realm of dumb fun.

I just finished watching the show after I heard someo e I knew worked on it as an animator.

I personally loved every second of it. I'm surprised /co/ hasn't talked about it a lot more

It's really surprising nobody talks about it on /co/ considering how well-loved stop motion stuff is around here. I even went through the archives, couldn't find a single thread about it with any actual posts. That's pretty sad. It looks like they put a lot of love into this show and stop-motion is no small feat.

I made the first thread about this show the day it was announced. It was talked about in the thread but people were mostly complaining about it being made by the Robot Chicken guys and it being furry trash.

Yeesh. Can't say I'm surprised about that, I guess. Just because it's the same animators doesn't mean it's the same writers/directors. The writing is totally different. I'm not a fan of Robot Chicken myself, but I've got respect for the animation team, considering next to nobody else on television is doing stop motion.

I passed on making a thread because I figured that's what would happen. The show seems alright, although even with the raiting I can't figure out who it's aimed at. It's crass, but it's also surprisingly good-natured and goofy. I like how they basically mashed together a convoy show and a racer show. It's like getting two '70s shows about good ol' boys in one, and the chase scenes are fairly well-animated.
