Curious how a predator would handle gems. Would they go straight for the gem after figuring it out, or would they want the gem intact as a trophy? They'd probably just steal/invent something like Jasper's stun rod and then if they couldn't figure out how to bubble, they'd just shatter and use the shards to decorate their armor for the next hunt.

Depends on if Ghidorah is under mind control at the time or not. If he's not, he's actually stronger than Godzilla AND Rodan together, he defeated both of them in Monster Zero, he could easily destroy them and then he'd just up and fly off.

If he's under those idiots from Vs Gigan or GTTHM on the other hand, they've got a decent chance. Just like a choirboy at an all black church, they do not know how to handle that monster even if they get control of the head.

>>
>>90726121
>Wasn't he acting on his own accord in GTTHM?

No, he wasn't. You don't learn it during GTTHM, but Monster Zero, the direct sequel, uses that as a twist. Turns out they sent Ghidorah to earth and were shocked the Monster Avengers managed to kick his ass, so they did that whole spiel about him destroying their place to trick earth into giving them Godzilla and Rodan to fight him, and then ha ha you fools, aliens are shit! But when Ghidorah broke free at the end of the movie, he whooped Godzilla and Rodan, and made everyone wonder if they were dead.

Gigan was okay, but they managed to control Ghidorah so bad even Angurius managed some decent hits.

Considering how he utterly fucking annihilated Big G in their first meetup and is packing weapons up his asshole like mexico's highest paid drug mules, this would be over pretty quick. He'd just stand there for ten minutes and legally be qualified as a fourth of july celebration before everyone was dead.

>I though the Rebirth of Mothra series wasn't canon to any Godzilla timeline

It's not, but it's canon to the ROM timeline, so I don't know what you're saying. They're still an alien invader/Alien Warlord respectively. It'd be a huge stretch to include Dagahra though, since Ninai Kanai were earthlings.

Here's a better question since pretty much any advanced 'serious' race could stomp them.

>>
Let's try and move away from the low-hanging fruit. Most of the species listed already could stomp the gems.

Could the Xenomorphs beat them? Do they have to have organic hosts to breed and swarm?
>>
>>90726264
>Gigan was okay, but they managed to control Ghidorah so bad even Angurius managed some decent hits.
Gigan wasn't the Monster Zero chaps, so it's entirely possible they just didn't know how to work a three headed laser machine. I mean, he is pretty unwieldy, even his 'owners' couldn't use him to full capacity, VS Megalon implied they had controlled Gigan much longer, which is why he also had way more trouble fighting in Megalon.

>>90726461
Simeons would win no problem, Mechagodzilla was was stronger than Godzilla was, and Big G would laugh off the Gems attacks.

What's the one between the Preds and the Galactic Empire from Star Wars? I feel like I've seen it before but can't remember.
>>
>>90726760
Xenos are fucked. Very limited supply numbers, can't facehug the actual combatants, Xenos won't go for the gems, and the Queen would be shorter than a Diamond is.

Predators fully armed and not just out for sport would rape them though.

>>
>>90725310

>>
Honestly, from what we know of them the Diamond Authority is at best a C-tier alien species. The main antagonists of almost every space opera/soft science fiction series could at least go toe to toe with them.
>>
I think at this point even the Yeerks have enough bodies to splatter the Gems.
>>
You know, this thread's got me thinking. Are we eventually going to see some OTHER alien race come along that tries to push the Gems around, and then the Diamonds have to reluctantly ally with the CGs and Steven to save their own lives?

It feels like the sort of thing that could happen if SU goes on long enough.
>>
>>90726802
>Maybe the Tyranids.
The nids would still win easily, sheer weight of numbers in a worst case scenario.
Sure they couldn't recoup as much as they could from squishies but its something of a misnomer that the nids are 100% reliant on recovering biomass after a battle.
Not to mention the hive fleet itself is a formidable navy before it even disgorges spores.

Some heal, some control water, some can see the future, some are storage units, weaponsmiths that are their own tools and can make all sorts of fucked up shit. There's a lot to work with if they have the resources, but they hold themselves back with the homo-fusion rule.

Almost EVERYTHING in Star Trek would win against gems. As far back as TNG even a low-class Klingon vessel could, and did, destroy an entire planet.

How can you say not many things can beat Gems in Star Trek if you just admitted you barely watched it?

The Crystalline Entities and the Tholians are prime examples of Star Trek dealing with Crystalline/Mineral races.

Here are some things most major Star Trek powers can do.

Wasn't there some offhand mention that the Gem Homeworld is in Andromeda? Being able to cross the inter-galactic void in a reasonable amount of time is in itself enough to push them onto a tech tier higher than even most shit in 40K.

At that point you'd need another race that's able to do the same to stand a chance. So any kids series that deals with space and has writers that have no sense of scale. Hell, the fucking Power Rangers from In Space and onward could do it.

>but mention galaxy to galaxy travel and they flip the fuck out.

Because most scifi sticks to a relatively small neighborhood and galaxy to galaxy travel is a much larger scale than even traveling through a single galaxy. Seriously, the distances are so big humans are pretty much unable to truly comprehend them. You can say whatever number of light years you want but saying it and truly understanding it are very different things.

Basically any
Think about it for all their tech and magic, the diamonds go to strategy is to land a small group of 1 to 5 gems on the surface of a planet to fight a battle with melee weapons, gems are not indestructible and despite an impressive ability to recover they don't even appear to be much more durable than a human.
Basically any race with access and will to use projectile weapons or orbital attacks would easily destroy anything we have seen the Diamonds use.
The only reason modern humans would be at a disadvantage is that we could never possibly reach them in another galaxy.

>but mention galaxy to galaxy travel and they flip the fuck out.
Probably because unlike most Sci-Fi technology and Science, this is something we can actually comprehend and calculate using real world math and science. Even travelling at the speed of light it would take thousands or millions of years to travel to another Galaxy. A Galaxy alone is unfathomably vast, now imagine the distance between Galaxies which can fit trillions of galaxies between them.

If Galaxies were not so far away from each other, they'd be affecting each other with their gravity. Chances are at least some Galaxies we are aware of are the results of one Galaxy eating another or two Galaxies imploding into each other.

I personally do not have a problem with Inter-Galactic travel in Sci-Fi, and I only do when it's not in line with the rest of the technological achievements of the setting.

We don't know how advanced their technology levels are in general. The Megas was an experimental creation using technology from the races they had conquered combined with their own, which they start doing in the present when they return after a long absence.

But still, if they were able to mass produced the Megas they'd be ridiculously formidable in ground warfare.

I dunno, if era 1 Peridots had Metalokinesis as a given that turns into a bit of a bad matchup, and like, six fused quartzes could equal a transformer in size and WAY beat it in strength.

Remember gems are STUPID strong (can rip metal with their bear hands), and seem to exponentially increase in size and strength with the number of gems fuzed, with two being about the size of them standing on each others shoulders and five being the size of a large hill, and a couple of thousand a small planetoid.

Dude come on, Kryptonite is a crystal.

>>90726984
I dunno, they both eat planets though the gems take fucking forever, but the diamond authority does have HARD gravity engine ftl and could probably pancake pretty much any non-ftl fleet with their blackhole engines.

To out power the diamond authority you need to not be relaying on physical strength or blasty weapons and be instant-transmission/telaportation level ftl (or alternate dimension travel) and have counters to paradox free time travel and lightspeed+ kinetic strikes.

Their main tech advantages are magic-level object specific planet wide telekinesis, gravity-based/alcuibiare ftl, physical strength and shapeshifting.

They are stupid weak to conventional weapons in person though, you could kill pretty much any gem with an AT rifle (so long as you can hit their gem) from what we have seen, but in person combat is not so relevent to lightspeed+ trans-galactic empires other than for colonization.

The Culture could probably beat em easy.

Neither is true for a combiner, Devastator would outsize and out muscle any fused gem. And unlike Gems, they don't seem to lose intelligence and skill the more they gain, and stability of relationships play no part in any of this.

Unlike Gestalts? Also, unlike gems, they don't become more vulnerable due to their weak spots being more obvious.

The cluster is mostly harmless unless someone commands it though, it's a weapon but not a viable threat without allowing it to just blow up the planet, and if planet level destruction is on the table TF's have a fuckton of those, just no reason to ever actually use them.

Cybertronians would make for a good match, but that brings up two different scenarios.

The Autobots would start by giving them a stern warning, letting them know exactly why what they're doing is wrong, how they all have witnessed something similar in the millions of years they have been alive, and why the actions of the Diamonds will ultimately bring doom to their species, before engaging the Gems directly. Military engagements would favor the Autobots initially and only be strengthened by Gem reinforcements to the Autobot cause, as the hold the Diamonds have on their forces is not as iron-tight as may seem and the Autobots' nobility and willingness to spare defeated foes would start swaying some of the more open-minded Gems to revolt against the Diamonds. If it were the Autobots leading the fight, the Diamonds would ultimately be beaten by a combined Autobot/Gem Rebel force that would make the Crystal Gems at their height look like an anthill next to a mountain.

Decepticons would make for a more brutal campaign against them, but face more setbacks due to patented Decepticon hubris and backstabbing. Some among their ranks would be absolutely giddy over going mad scientist with Gem tech and having loyal, disposable, and easily manufactured warriors to bolster their ranks, others would want nothing more than to see them all destroyed, others would be looking into improving Gestalt technology with the Gems' Fusion abilities, and fucking Starscream would screw the Decepticons out of a few victories. Ultimately though they would come out on top as well, and their victory would be far more brutal and bode far worse for the Gems.

even if the saiyans could match travel speed. they have to know where to go. they would have to search every planet that naturally bears organic life.

They could send a ship to just go hide somewhere in the middle of nowhere and wait thousands of years.

the Gems can crack down and reinvent time travel. allowing them to set up a kindergarten on the Saiyan homeworld before the Saiyans could fight back.

>>
>>90729043

This.

The fact that they had time travel capable of creating essentially infinite time duplicates 6000 YEARS AGO and their tech level has since improved alone makes them sort of unbeatable if they are using their tools even halfway competently.

Future Vision + time travel + a duplicator means I could beat most scifi alien races with ease. I know most of your moves in advance and have more than enough warning to time travel back to the start of the battle until I find the path to victory. With a duplicator, I can have infinite time machines for my army, as well as solving any other conceivable resource issue. If your weapons are better than mine, I only need to steal one of them in any given timeloop to outfit my entire army with perfect copies of that weapon in all future loops and battles.

You can never outmaneuver me, never out plan me, and never outgun me. And that's utilizing only a very, very small portion of the gem's powers.

You have to remember that, in the show, Homeworld by and large doesn consider Earth to be important anymore, much less a threat. They only sent 2 gems to check up on the cluster and Earth because Earth is basically written off as 'rampant weapons development testing ground, unsafe to land' for the past 5000 years. They weren't expecting any infiltrators at the zoo because as far as they know there are like 4 gems in the universe total who are not friendlies and they shouldn't have any FTL anyway. So any gem that shows up is presumed to be on their side.
>>
>>90724725

It's kind of retarded to propose hypotheticals when we don't really know anything about Homeworld, isn't it?
>>
>>90728813
I'm sure they can develop some kind of apparatus to keep them contained, if they haven't already. I don't think Gems can even reform if they're lodged into something, so just some kind of mechanical brace or container that tightens around them would probably work.

An intact gem is a better trophy, after all.

I think the gems have a pretty big advantage in fighting the cybertronians (and indeed, many aliens) in that its surprisingly hard to actually kill a gem. Even poofing one isn't as easy as it would first appearing (we have now seen two different gems of wildly different power levels survive falls from orbit unharmed, not even poofed!) and poofing basically turns what would be a lethal injury to any reasonable enemy into what is likely a minor inconvenience and temporary vulnerability.

This, plus bubbling and teleporting bubbled gems (something which apparently doesn't actually require the temple, Peridot can do it herself. It just sends the bubbled thing "home") means that even poofed gems can be easily retrieved and sent to safety by nearby comrades.

Its hard to adequately express how fucking major that sort of easy recovery and short heal time is in a war. Unless they suffer a completely one sided battle that wipes them all out before they can tend to fallen gems, 90% of 'defeated' gems just need a short breather before they are back at fighting strength. While its true that attacking the gem directly will kill them, even gems of the same type don't have their gems in the same body part (see the team of rubies) so that means that attacking the gems with precision requires you to stop and seek out the gem for each target individually, which you won't have time for in most battle setups.

Fusion exacerbates this problem, because taking too much damage as a fusion just seems to pop the gems back to their individual forms. So fusion is basically an 'extra life' in a fight, making you both harder to kill since you are more durable and making the first 'death' have no consequences.

>>90729658
The difficult of poofing a gem seems to depend on how you go about it. It seems like blunt force impact spread throughout the body, such as a fall, is more easily survivable, but being stabbed by even a regular sword is enough to poof them. This is probably because their bodies are naturally designed around high-G space travel, but not combat. Even if they're conquerors, Gems don't seem naturally adapted for war.
Furthermore, Amethyst, a warrior caste gem, was cracked by a fall onto a rock at no greater than terminal velocity, so the gems themselves aren't invulnerable; they're likely identical in durability to regular gemstones.

What this means is that you have to deliver a coup de grace immediately after landing one sufficiently lethal blow, which isn't necessarily difficult depending on what you use, or by adapting tactics. I maintain that fragmentation would be quite effective for both destroying their body and gem.

Probably not very. Their biggest threat seems to come from other gems, considering there's no mention of a rival species, and humans themselves in SUverse lack our warring ability. They mostly rule via a tightly enforced caste system with little challenge outside Rose's rebellion, so it's not like their mettle is tested very often.

And, this is probably due to their lifespans, but they seem slow to adapt and slow to grow in terms of technology.
For the record, all of human history is within a roughly 10,000 year time period, and we've seen a HUGE technological boom in the last century or so. What have Gems advanced in the last 10,000 years?

Jumping on the Gems v. Transformers bandwagon.
I'd like to throw one consideration into the mix: culture and history.
The Gems have been going around and either conquering or eradicating lesser species for a very long time without any major opposition. They are not used to fighting an equal force. They've grown arrogant and lazy.
The Transformers on the other hand have been fighting themselves and other horrific threats like the quintessons and fucking UNICRON for millions upon millions of years. They are very familiar with strife and adversity. They have become quite skilled at wrecking house.
These facts should be taken into consideration.
>>
>>90730259
>everyone loses to earth
In Marvel maybe, but they have armies of disposable mooks against Earth's disproportionate superpowers.

All the same, different metric. Name one time the Skrulls have won against literally ANYONE.
Meanwhile, The Rick and Morty Galactic Federation has made Earth completely their bitch off-screen. Skrulls just kind of suck.
>>
>>90730306
UNICORN itself is enough of a justification cause he devours everything his in path that has the ability to think even if it exists in some other universe in which he'll just hop right over and do his thing
>>
>>90730306
Adding to this: Aren't most transformers big enough to just step on Gems to poof/shatter them?

Like seriously, Gems are around 6-7 feet tall, Cybertronians regularly stand taller than houses.

And that's not counting the fact that if Gems get to Cybertron it'll just wake up, and suddenly Primus. And the fact that at any time any one of the planets they try to colonize could be Unicron, at which point he wakes up hungry and just eats their entire empire because he's got nothing better to do.

Come on dude. When they attack Earth it's not a full invasion. They have entire Empires to guard with their other fleets. Most of those races are also usually at war with other races at all times. We're pitting the full races against each other without taking into account the rest of their universes effects on them.

>>90730385
Now I want a comic where Gem colonists try to make camp on a planet, succeed for a week or so, before the world starts 'waking up' and kills them one by one. Ends with a Peridot or Quartz desperately telling Homeworld to "Stay Away!"

Epilogue has a Gem Fleet going to the planet and attempt to destroy it with long range weapons. The world then "eats" the bombardment, transforms into Unicron and begins to give chase.

>The Milky Way contains between 200 and 400 billion stars
>and at least 100 billion planets
>The Milky Way Galaxy is small compared to most Galaxies.
It would take more time than the universe has in it's projected lifespan before heat death to officially map, explore and conquer a Galaxy, let alone multiple Galaxies, and there is taking into account the millions/trillions of years it would take to travel between them. This is one of the reasons people scoff at the idea of multi-galaxy shit.

People who do anything involving multiple Galaxies don't know what they are doing.

Okay, sure. What can the skrulls, Kree, or Shi'ar really do against them? Hit me with their best feats, because I've read a decent amount of Cosmic Marvel, and nothing stands out except some intergalactic travel, some enhanced humanoids, and some laser guns, and From what we have seen, gems can match all of that.

It would take more time than i have in my lifespan to count ever grain of sand on earth, but if you had more people doing it, it would go a lot faster, what's your point? More time than the universe has for WHO to map and explore and conquer a galaxy? Your hypothetical leaves a lot of logical holes. And the bigggest one is the fact that gems create their entire society with the mission of expansion and conquest, pop out of the ground in large numbers wherever they are, and have FTL travel.

the first ships that colonized earth did it by traveling light speed, which I guess wouldn't matter to a race that doesn't need to eat and doesn't age.
>>
>>90730793
SJ takes place entirely on Earth, but I do recall Aku at the very least has trade, subjects, and mercs coming in from other planets, if not dominion. In like the second episode it's mentioned he took all the water from a water planet, and the inhabitants had to beg him to stay on Earth.

That said, yeah, Aku will wreck your shit if you don't have a holy weapon.
>>
>>90730686
1. Where did the number of Gems required to do this come from?
2. Where did their ships come from?
3. Where did the materials they used to make their creations come from?
4. Where did the energy needed come from?
5. How long does it take to build their ships?
6. How long does it take to raise and train their soldiers/explorers?
7. How long does it take for them to travel?

Time and resources are the factor here. If say, we somehow calculated that it would take 2 Googolplexes of Gems and ships to carry them to map, explore, conquer and colonize Galaxies/Planets, where would these things come from and how long would it take to create them?

The problem with your own assumptions is that if it takes X amount of Y to do the task at hand, does the required amount of X instantly and suddenly materialize out of thin air just because that's what is required?

Multi-Galaxy shit is retarded on any level and is worthy of derision.

>>90730909
>Where did the number of Gems required to do this come from?
The ground they land on.
>Where did their ships come from?
Resources extracted from planets.
>Where did the energy needed come from?
They can power things from gems themselves, but other than that, it appears that they use all the usual power sources. Peridot's ship had electricity in it.
>How long does it take to build their ships?
I'd imagine it depends on how many gems owrk on them.
>How long does it take to raise and train their soldiers/explorers?
Invalid question, gems don't need training, that goes into the process that creates them to begin with, they come out of their holes fully-formed with enough knowledge to instantly do their intended function in the society.
>How long does it take for them to travel?
From the looks of one episode where they showed it, a couple of minutes.

Time is shown to at least partly be under their control, and resources they need are everywhere, and much less intensive than humans or human-like aliens seem to need, as gems don't need atmosphere to breathe, food to eat, or water to drink. All your points would be much more valid if we were talking about literally any other alien species.

Why I wouldn't trust an alien to fetch me my slippers let alone fight another alien on our behalf.

Which reminds me. Kif, I want those slippers yesterday.

Where was I? Oh yes, aliens. These Gems are a dangerous and many faceted lot, and I will take it upon myself to study their culture and military tactics so I know just how many of my own men sacrificing themselves for me it will take for victory.

Jack could take on a small army of rubies, quartzs, and peridots by himself with nothing but his sword and whatever weapons the Gems happen to drop. He'd take more than a few hits for certain, especially before he figures out how Gems work. After he learns that he needs to shatter the gem on their bodies, he'll slaughter the lot of them. The battle gradually just becomes a rapid-fire montage of Jack shattering gems left and right with different moves and weapons.

Scene finally ends with a wide-angle shot of Jack, clothes torn to shreds, covered in cuts and bruises, screaming wordlessly at the sky. He brings up his sword in anticipation of another blow, but is surprised to see nothing around him but an empty field covered in crystal shards. He breaths heavily, but slowly calms down. He sheaths his sword and starts walking away.

Isn't this the plot to a tom cruise movie and japanese light novel?

Modern day humans could stand up to them.
They don't wear armour (unless it is their weapon) and their weaponry is stuck in the medieval age. They don't even have basic guns.

There's definitely precedent for this, the -master technology. Gems would be like overcharged Powermasters or even Targetmasters. Actually they would probably function as both, come to think of it; not only do Gems have their own power sources, they can also conjure up their own weapons. Decepticons would be absolutely giddy over not only being able to slot in things that supercharge them, but also getting ADDITIONAL weapons because of it.

Shockwave would look at them like a kid in a candy store.

Actually /k/omrade, the Gems have laser arty too.

Considering pic related took out a well-armored gem space ship, probably could outright destroy an unprotected gem.

However, stronger gem ships have been shown to be able to tank a hit from one of these no problem.

I could see it, Steven alone has a pretty useful powerset that someone like Bumblebee (barrier and shield with Scout skills), Wheeljack (you just know he'd be willing to tinker with the idea), Red Alert (on-site super-healing), etc. could take advantage of.

Or, hell, up the ante and have the Megatron-fusion face off against Optimus with Steven, one arm with an enhanced version of his trademark axe, the other with Rose's shield.

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away a small group of gems became alive, no one is sure of what their origin really is, magic, space science, an experiment gone wrong, the thing is that they are now alive, projecting light bodies from their gems, some being the size of toddlers, others the size of buildings.
Gem society is based on crushing utilitarianism and a strict caste system, all gems are born with a purpose in mind and they must fill said position till their death, no questions asked, they are all given a number, a job and thats it, some are used as batteries for powerful objects, and some gems that have been shattered have been used on experiments were gem scientist force the shards together creating monsters with broken minds and in eternal suffering.
Gems cannot reproduce sexually, they require to extract resources from planets in order to create more gems in an industrial process were thousand of gems are born in the same place, depending on how rich the soil is or the quality of the machines used the gems produced can be or varying qualities, some are born perfectly fine and others are shorter or weaker due to bad soil or conditions.
We are not sure what happens during a gem's production, but we know that after it happens the soil used becomes sterile and nothing will grow there for thousands of years.

>>
>>90732682
>>90733589
Gems do not die, they get shattered, but the individual pieces remain somewhat alive and retain a small part of the gem's mind and body, some shards can turn into just legs or arms, etc, and just keep moving aimlessly.
Corruption happens when a gem goes trough a lot of stress it seems, and what happens is that the gem goes from having a human form to an animal form with an animal mind, attacking other gems around them, we are not sure why.
At some point gems came to earth, colonized some areas and started a project to hollow the earth to extract as much resources as possible, which would have caused the end of all organic life in the planet.
A gem soldier fell in love with the earth and the concept of free thinking and started a rebellion against Homeworld, the rebellion scalated to the point of having one of the 4 goddess-empresses of Homeworld killed, the other 3 goddesses responded by sending some kind of nuke that corrupted every single gem on earth, with only that soldier and 3 of her followers surviving the mental-rape bomb.
During the war Homeworld started to use the shards of fallen soldiers on experiments, when victory became impossible, they decided to plant a massive fusing of shards underground, big enough so that when it finally came out of its hole it would destroy the earth and become a massive planetary weapon.
Back in the days it seems like gems valued music and arts in general from what we can see from the architecture left on earth by them, but it seems like gems have grown colder and more robotic since then, also it seems like they are also going through a scarcity or resouces that forces them to produce smaller and weaker gems.

While I did always like that theory, we're not entirely sure whether or not it's possible for a Gem to corrupt without the DIamonds launching their virus, and Jasper catching it secondhand from fusing with a corrupted gem;.

Additional details worth noting are pre-war the gems had time travel and matter-replicating technology though this was back when things seemed more "magic" so it's unknown if those devices are still used on homeworld or what the limitations are etc.
