Good evening owls,
let's read a little bit
>>90722696
I've been here too long. I saw LAW and went right toLAWL.
>>90722696
I'm not promising much tonight because I feel really awful
Hi OP
Is this early or are my timezones all FU again?
>>90722721
CAMERON YOU DOG
>>90722760
it's a bit after 7, if anything I'm a touch late because
>>90722768
Oh, honey, that's the best one yet
>>90722768
kek
you been sitting on that for a couple days?

early trade solicits! including a JLI omni and some DnA Legion
>>90722815
I have to say that while /pol/ can stay fucked off, I'm impressed at how they trolled Shia, that took a lot of work.
>>90722855
hnnng except that I have no room for books
>>90722815
Dylan is unfuckable, this is breaking my immersion.

Hello, Storyteller.
We now return to Kate Spencer, Attorney at Fail.
>tell roomie i'll cover his shift
>10-4 instead of working 4-8
>hell yeah i can be in storytime
>at work they ask me to stay late
>groan and say yes
so lucky I got here in time.i read America and it wasn't bad. in fact i would call it ok to good.
how long is Starman's Grand Guignol? because the first issue of the last omnibus ends withOpal going UPand I'm wondering how/if this lasts the whole book.
ps i shat a brick when I realized who the couple working for the bad guy are.the couple from that Times Past issue with Payton that was like Natural Born Killers right?which i hope Robinson explains a natural fit in for them bc I really loved the issue ending withthe couple disappearing after rumors they ran into Slade Wilson
>>90722891
Punch and Jewlee!
>>90722974
>i read America and it wasn't bad. in fact i would call it ok to good.
...how?
>>90722855

>no Green Lanterns or Deathstroke Rebirth deluxes
>>90722974
I think it's 12 issues and epilogue? It must have been total cliffhanger fuckery reading that as it came out, jeeesus
>>90722982
DON'T DO IT KATE! JEWELEE'S A MOM!
>>90723021
dat butt
>>90723021
HI TODD
>>90723020
>>no Green Lanterns or Deathstroke Rebirth deluxes
I am surprised they haven't listed GLs deluxes yet, it's selling about the same as Hal n Pals
>>90723037
Man if Kate wastes Punch and Jewelee I'll go order this trade online right the fuck now.
I think I could read a whole omni of P&J death scenes.
Actually, no. I take back that Attorney at Fail remark. I saw Beyond Two Souls the other day, and now I have witnessed what true incompetence and unlikability looks like. Kate is a fucking godsend compared to Jodie.
>>90723020
Deathstroke needs a HC. The current trade collects 1-5 + the rebirth issue while the story "The Professional" ends at 6, and issues 7-8 are the epilogue
>>90723067
>>90723067
DON'T DO IT TODD! PUNCH IS A PRESUMABLY NON-ABUSIVE FATHER!
>>90723009
well i didn't actually die from it like /co/ was talking about so it had low expectations to clear.
but it seemed like a fine young hero finding themselves book, the break up with her g/f doesn't seem permanent at all, i really like the gimmick of the school and stuff like "research past people and study them" as a wormhole to do whatever you want. and I still like the character
>>90723021
I can't imagine, with the way Robinson is jumping in time too!
i was mad Jack didn't bring up no Thom on the Wall of Starmen btw but i get that's me
>>90723020
>Grayson Omnibus now too

I wonder if that DnA Legion collection will include Legion Lost
>>90723020
you are burying the lede friend. Kirby 4th World Omnibus!!
>>90722855
DC continues to know how to please a man.
>>90723125
I think a lot of what you're highlighting there is shallow at the moment and I have no confidence it will get better, but a first issue is too early to judge. But I mean I liked maybe one thing about the issue so whatever, total opposites.
>>90723226

yep, that's our Bones
>>90722844
I just got it today from a thread of generated memes.
>>90723518

>>90723596
I still kind of wonder what Roy was on when he created Mr. Bones.
>>90723322
>>90723377
I remembered: Catwoman having a baby with Slam Bradly's son, who apparently became a vigilante and died during the 52 year
>>90723553

>>90723625
probably the same thing he was on when he created the rest of Bones' team
>>90723570
Sure, if you like generic capeshit.
>>90723634
that was a weird plot too because they'd never actually let Selina Kyle be tied down with babby

Don't you mean Failure at Law?
>>90723634
That sounds like shit.
Were ANY of the OYL tie in arcs good?

>>90723919
The singular of paparazzi is paparazzo. The word stems from the italian word for pest.
>>90723954
>It's an objectively amateur work.
well yeah it's the writer's first comic
>>90723919
That will show up, promise, and it's delightful.

Excited for King Riddler desu. Joker... not so much.
>>90723935
Hey, Ed.
Why is Dr. Psycho like, the only Wonder Rogue who writers actually use outside the WW books?
>>90724052
Joker needs to be banned from existing desu
>>90724043
I'm sure someone's saved it for bait purposes in other threads
>>90723971
I sent it to a friend whose reactions were "Let's have a zero-stakes, zero-conflict wish-fulfillment fantasy for little queer girls of color, that's fine. But can we not wish that on any other book?"
then, more damningly, "Latina Poochie", lol
>>90724073
He has a great hook and he's completely fucking evil
>>90723377
>Be careful what you wish for
Oh that reminds me Nova 4 was in the top 25 for digital sales!
>>90724073
Because all the others suck fucking ass.
>>90724073
Cheetah gets used and Circe has been used outside of WW books thoonly when WW is used like Trinity and SM/WW
>>90724100
She's not even actually Latina.
>>90723720
>Your skin looks weird
You cant just say that to a black man little dude.
>Kate was instilling racist values into her child
>>90723988
>>90724039
Seriously, why isn't there a Dr. Mid-Nite Corps? The lack of medical focused capes makes no sense.
>>90724146
I will be interested to see if/how the writer tries to thread that needle. I don't think it's undoable, but it's not easy
>>90724043
Haven't we established over the past few years that feminism is a monolith and is always legitimate and compatible even between heroes and villains? That page is just too unrealistic.
>>90724100
> "Let's have a zero-stakes, zero-conflict wish-fulfillment fantasy for little queer girls of color, that's fine. But can we not wish that on any other book?"
i dunno if i'd go that far. like the conflict is internal, which is why she's doing a forced break up with her g/f and going off to a college. but it has that light tone
>>90724073
He has a recognizable design, he's really powerful and difficult to fight against, and has a personality that's fun to write.
Even when psychic villains are a dime a dozen, being creepy looking and having that wit he does makes him pretty unique.
>>90724100
What gets me is just the prevalence of that kinda stuff in Marvel right now. It feels like very few books are multifaceted/have any ambiguity.
>>90724170
We are the Mid-Nite Corps baby. Hoot hoot.
>>90724238
And the misogyny is a strong character trait.
>>90724257
Yeah, I may well try Hulk just because it's decidedly not that.
>>90724306
This isn't pulling punches, damn
>>90724258
DrPsycho is the only mind controller villain worth a damn. Everyone else is all like "hey do something generic for me like rob a bank" but Psycho really makes people do crazy shit.
>>90723660
>Mr Skellington
I'm fucking dying
>>90724306
>Hulk
/co/ got soooooo buttblasted because they can't fap to Jen anymore lol
>>90724306
>Yeah, I may well try Hulk just because it's decidedly not that.
I've only read the first issue and I liked it well enough
at this point a book about a superheroine with PTSD feels more refreshing than yet another low/no stakes slice of life book
>>90724257
Truthfully the books with that slant or still a minority, which is fine, because there should be multiple types of books for multiple types of people.
The problem is most of the other books are so bland, forgettable or just plain bad that nobody seems to even remember how many of them there are in comparison to the ones that get lots of controversy.
I mean, is anyone outside of diehard X-fans even reading any of the X-Men books? Does anyone period read the Inhumans books?

>>90723720

>>90724386
>>not fapping to musclegirls
I think the issue is Jen's NOT a musclegirl (yet?) in Hulk
>>90724336
Right, writers are willing to actually GO there with him and be genuinely disturbing. Perez/Thompson had some real nightmare fuel.
>>90724335
Trying to get Dr.Psycho out of jail? Hand in your superhero card Kate....
>>90724336
I love how deep down he's just a broken little man but he rarely shows it
>>90724386
>The problem is most of the other books are so bland, forgettable or just plain bad that nobody seems to even remember how many of them there are in comparison to the ones that get lots of controversy.
YUP
>>90724257
I don't think Marvel remembers how to do ambiguity. Remember, IvX and CW2 were supposed to be ambiguous.
>>90724336
People rarely really think about psychics in comics.
>>90724428
I guess Purple Man is Marvel's Dr. Psycho? But does he get to actually be rapey anymore?
>>90723847

Telepaths are rather scary, even when benevolent. Just look at Imra.
>>90724470
Apparently Purple Man got a bit rapey in the Jessica Jones TV series.
>>90724615
>>90724619
that Zemo/Purple Man plot was pretty fucked up
Anyone here use 4chanx? I installed it, but cannot find the setting to disable the embedded/nesting comment expansion
>>90724647
so, are we finally gonna get some Griffles tomorrow
>>90723971
Then why is it being published by a professional comic publisher? This isn't like Coates where the writer had a huge body of work under their belt already. Even if it wasn't comic books, Coates has proven himself as a writer. Rivera has done one thing prior to America. Marvel has no fucking place putting her on one of their books.
>>90724717
Agreed, you should prove yourself before entering the big leagues. People defending America sicken me.
>>90724711
He's gonna be the barista.

>>90724711
>inb4 Grifter is completely dry, no personality, and never takes that comically giant hoodie off. Also inb4 he doesn't have any powers for the millionth time.
>>90724717
there's no hoops you gotta jump through to be published. if the publishers/editors like you enough and think it's ok than they can publish it and you are good enough to be published.
>>90724751
i paid extra for a variant cover
>>90724717
That one thing was very on point to the pitch though. Personally I think this argument is trash: amateurs can do great work. And I didn't much like America.

From issue #1 the choice of solos seems weird. The only one I'd be into right now would be Zealot, and you'd still have to tone down the dialogue and turn up the action. Rather than Deathblow, Zealot or Grifter... Voodoo seems the most interesting TWS spin-off from the word go.
>>90724801

(he's talking about Damage, who Johns exhumed for JSA v.3)
>>90724178
iirc Rivera have an interview that I felt made it clear she had a firm grasp of that, but based on the first issue I don't have any faith in her to treat it as anything other than Latin heritage.Fear not, mi gente

>>90725147
I actually don't like Kate having superhero relatives. I like the idea that she was good because she chose to be good. Being apart of a heroic family makes it sound like she had "good" DNA and her actions were chosen for her.
Same with Zuko from Avatar. It was better when he was just the son of the Firelord. He only joined the Avatar gang after he found out he was also a decedent of one. Like he had Avatar genes which makes you into a good person and it made overcoming the "evil firelord" genes easier to do. He couldn't fully overcome the evil genes until he discovered the good ones.
At least thats how I see it anyway

It's pretty easy to swing either way IMO, so if that is a change hopefully its not gonna impact on plot (which Spencer is a huge improvement for) too much. Ideally just a change in the wrap up and more for forthcoming books.
>>90725272
I watched Allshamnowow's play through, actually. Still hurt like a motherfucker though. Since Cage games are barely video games anyway, there's almost no point in playing them yourself.
Seriously though. I fucking hate Jodie. She is the worst. Well no, Ryan is the worst, but Jodie is the main character, so I had to put up with her bullshit constantly.
>>90725526
iirc Robinson made him gay because his gay son was gone
>>90725513
hell yeah white straight heroes back where they should be. at the front
>>90724925
It means nothing. The cowl/cape combo makes him look more like a thief than a doctor. You can't tell a thing about him based on his outfit. I like the character but goddamn the costume is a travesty.
>>90725604
it was a very explicit compensation for Obsidian, yes
Okay, this is frustrating, because we're going to get hints of this and no real resolution in the run and I repeatedly asked Andreyko about it and never got shit. Sorry!
>>90725676
We're gonna fall out senpai.
>>90722982
Ah, man, these guys are too enjoyable to get energy murdered by a jerk who stole a bunch of crap out of an evidence locker.
>>90724810
Hahahaha lawyers are scum
>>90725722
Pieter Cross is my favorite moral scold in comics
also, dat ass
>>90724073
Because he's the only good one (aside from sometimes-Giganta and sometimes-Cheetah).
Plus, I mean, he's the most evil psychic misogynist (misanthropist, really) dwarf to ever live. That's his whole thing. That has a lot of broad compatibility with other heroes, not tied to Paradise Island or whatever.
>>90723067
Todd, don't kill them! Your stepmom is a jester themed supervillain too! They can be reformed! Your dad just needs to have sex with them!
>>90725679
>it was a very explicit compensation for Obsidian, yes
that's kinda what makes me not mad if they bring back OG Alan and the kids. it started as a trade off, end as one ya know

Any thoughts on Zub writing Emma Frost in Secret Empire? Magik's totally on her team

Eww. Like, I'm not one to typically tell others how to view my culture, but it bothers me that this shit is being lauded* as what "people like me" need right now.

Cannot fucking wait, honestly. Delicious trainwreck porn. Future SoP material.
>>90725891
Zub can blow me
>>90725891
has Zub written anything good yet?
>>90723502
And that, Kate, is why the Glitter Bomb is a terrifying weapon.
Now you're going to get accused of fucking a stripper.

>Any thoughts on Zub writing
after he bungled Thunderbolts so bad I'm not interested in anything he writes
>>90725099
Still upset we're not getting that Black Lightning/Batman story on gun violence by King.

Go back to your home dimension, fucking gate jumpers

Might wanna think a little harder on that one, champ.

Raise your hand if you predicted THIS dive into canon.
>>90726034
But didn't Killg%re go into hiding willingly?

I knew it wasn't gonna be the Burton shit. Sasuga OP.

ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Was this before or after he/it fucked around in BoP?

I would never, ever, ever inflict the Burton shit on anyone, christ

hey owls, I'm gonna leave it here because I need to go bang my head into a wall
thanks for reading, I might see you tomorrow morning but for sure we're on Friday night with more Kate and Dr. Psycho

Well, Countdown hasn't started yet, so that must actually be Dr. Midnite, and not Jason Todd.

Thanks OP, always a pleasure. Take it easy.
>>90724073
He's a disgusting rapist midget with hardcore misogynistic values. That's an easy sell compared to say, Cyborg Swan Lady.
>>90726164
Thanks for nothing, faggot. This comic sucks ass in every way so far: shit writing, shit art, shit inks, shit colors, shit lettering, and shit editing. A perfect clusterfuck.
>>90726164
Still can't stand Dylan, still can't love Kate enough
>>90726244
;____;
>>90726164
Thanks for posting as always, Storyteller.
Feel better.
And thank you David Cage, for helping me realize I was being unfair to a character with a proper arc, well written dialogue, a cohesive narrative, etc. Kate's an ass and a fuck up, but at least she eventually stops sucking. I fucking hate Jodie.
>>90724336
They've done a bit of more degenerate stuff with Purple Man too.
Like, he kept Purple Girl's mom mind controlled for over a year until he convinced himself she loved him.
>>90725754
Pieter Cross is one of the greatest Legacy characters of all time, and one of my favorite street-level heroes of all time, too. ...maybe my favorite blind hero, too. Sorry, Matt.
I REALLY hope they bring him back to existence with a new JSA.
>>90725754
See, Wildcat has a good costume. It's simple and straightforward. His feline and fighter gimmicks are clear through the cat features and hand wraps. How do goggles and a cape correspond with medicine? Hell, *white* is the sanitary medical color. He's dressed in death colors.
>>90726475
The goggles because he's blind, the black and all because he's Mid-Nite
maybe we should read Wagner/JKS3 again
>>90725982
>>90726013
My sides, fuck, I just got those replaced
>>90725353
The only Nomad I want is Jack Monroe, and that isn't happening without a mountain of incredibly stupid contrivance.
>>90726475
Cranky you have a fucking gift for being able to pick out the kinda inconsequential detail which nonetheless bothers the fuck out of me that you have a problem with it.
>>90725471
Never keep a gift from a stalker except as evidence to give to the police.
>>90725679
>Okay, this is frustrating, because we're going to get hints of this and no real resolution in the run and I repeatedly asked Andreyko about it and never got shit. Sorry!
It kind of feels like they were going to tie in the Manhunters and the Order of St. Dumas/Azrael going by this page, maybe?
>>90723021
>butt AND bugle
truly a panel for everyone
>>90726034
Not really.
Also, Man, Kate definitely lacks the clout to have the global electrical grid shut down the Wally did.
>>90726164
See you Friday, then.
Kilg%re seems to have been nerfed, hard, from his old Computer God status.
>>90725891
Very worried!!
>>90723673
>Were ANY of the OYL tie in arcs good?
I thought of one!
Aquaman! With the new Aquaman, and the basically "Underwater John Carter" status quo.
>>90725353
>The retailer buzz is that something is up and something is on the move; hypothesized that Nicky has had to change the ending of Seekrit Empire which I would have pegged right now as "Penitent Cap becomes Nomad and Sam stays Cap"
Yeah my guess before was that Spencer was going to take over Thunderbolts and put Steve on that team. So unless I was completely out to lunch Zub staying on it would gel with that "changed plans" notion.
>>90725099
His kids are going to appear soon in the DC Superhero Girls toyline.
>>90726820
