This is an assumption. Maybe they just wanted to get rid of the body after hiding it on a freezer, or wherever it was frozen. Sure, its a stupid idea but if they had no other option, eg they couldn't hide the body anymore or wanted to incriminate somebody it can make sense.

I think it's pretty clear they know what they're doing. This is a show with a blood feud based on breakfast garnish played absolutely straight and has troubled teens getting v&. They expect the audience to be able to process high camp like that.
The first few episodes are kind of set up though, so impressions can be different after watching more and seeing something like the Grundy plot get wrapped up.

This show is barely Archie, but god damnit I love it. It's camp as fuck and knows it. It's fucking the entire structure of the comics in ways so deliberate they have to be doing it on purpose. The times they get into social commentary can be a bit much, but even then they mostly pull it off, with the exception of Cheryl being a fucking retard at the beginning of the Chuck episode to prove a point. And for the most part, the characters act consistently with the character they're playing from the comics. Archie is still a fucking goofball, Jughead is a sarcastic but loyal friend, Reggie is an asshole who kind of likes the group, Betty is the Girl Next Door revamped for the modern day, Veronica is the Rich girl who tries to adapt to Riverdale, ect, ect.

I hate it, but I love it. It's the best Archie's Weird Mysteries plot yet.
