What the fuck kinda name is that?
>>
>>90684217
But why?

This is like when Toomes stole Peter's parent doppelgangers' life forces to become young. Nobody fucking cares about the villain looking young and handsome. They're iconic because they're distinct.
>>
Is Oct old or young in this run? I haven't kept up with a lot of Spidey material since he took over Peter's body.
>>
Remember that time we made all of Spider-Man's villains buff young men and supermodel women and nobody liked it?

Let's do that again.

The endless cycle of killing/ressurecting characters in continuing the big two shit-treadmill is holding steady, nice.

When will you all stop reading this garbage?
>>
>>90684681

Honestly, though I hated how Peter died trapped in Ock's failing body, I really enjoyed reading Superior Spider-Man.

Bringing Peter back was so soon was definitely forced/rushed. Would have honestly liked to have continued reading more Spock.

This doesn't disprove Sentry at all, we still don't know who "Bob" of the Masters of Evil is. Though I personally don't think it's Sentry.

>>
>>90684844
>>90684862
>>90684879
My guess is Spencer wanted to use SpOck in it once he found out how Clone Conspiracy was going to end, or possibly before that since events are supposedly planned years in advance. There wouldn't be a reason for him to show up in Empire and be on a page with Hydra if he didn't have some prominent role.
>>
>>90685076
I'd imagine he'd look like Pete. Ben was making the clone body for himself.

Don't mind his return so much, or his new look, but wish he'd gotten over the whole 'Superior' obsession and just gone by Doctor Octopus again.

A fight between him and Peter sounds like it could be quite cool if well done, given how he's literally him plus tentacles. Slott would probably mangle it, though.

It'll be funny if through a terrible diet and an inability to keep fit that Otto's new Peter body becomes fat and gross.

Could bring some comedic scenes to the comics too. Peter constantly having to see his body all bloated and out of shape.

Or is that too out of character for Marvel?

>>
>>90689076
That's what I'm saying, that without the need to keep up the gag that he was really Peter Parker in SSM he'll just grind this new body to shit living the way he used to.

If not Slott then hopefully the new writer does this. It would really drive home the point that Otto isn't Superior even though it seems to be the only thing he says about himself anymore.
>>
>>90684217
>to be continued in amazing spider-man #29 secret empire!
Wait, I thought Norman was next? Is the Goblin arc really short or something?
>>
Part of me thinks Slott has a hard on for Otto because he's literally not allowed to do anything that wouldn't leave Peter Parker in stasis when the dust settles. So he fucks around with another character instead because why not?

The other part of says it's about time for him to give up ASM.
>>
>>90689278

>>90684217

>>90685891
Technically Kaine has never pretended nor wanted to be Peter.

Except when

1) Peter asked him to put on the Spider-man suit to pretend Peter Parker was saved by Spider-man in Spider-Island and that way preserve Peter's secret identity;

2) to save Peter by taking his place in the human sacrifice ritual of Grim Hunt.
>>
>>90685891
and don't forget all the peter clones jackel is gonna make
>>
If this wasn't the main Spider-Man book I would've dropped it months ago.
>>
Honestly? I'm not surprised. I was suspecting this because of the figure on the cover of "Secret Empire", hidden as "Top Secret". And the clue was obvious at the end of "The Clone Saga".

One interesting thing: With this design, I'm pretty sure many people will recognize the arrogance of the previously known as "Superior Spider-Man" and realize that it was Octopus who hurt them, not Spider-Man. So, to take this Otto down, Spider-Man will surprisingly receive the help from all the victims of "Superior Spider-Man" (including Black Cat) who look for revenge.

What worries me the most is if this Proto-Clone actually has Peter's face or any other one. I mean, since the "Jackal" offered Anna Maria to use it, then maybe it's not necessarily Peter's face.
>>
>>90685591
I'm pretty sure, and before I continue I'm going to admit I haven't been keeping up with what's going on with Sentry, but the last time he was seen he was resurrected as a Horseman of Apocalypse alongside Banshee, Grim Reaper, and someone else and then he fucked off to space, no?
>>
>>90687655

>>
>>90691211
You are correct, Death Seed Sentry is the character's most recent showing. However, its been so long that I wouldn't be surprised if they just don't give a fuck about that anymore.
>>
>>90686464
Wait, you mean Knockout for the giantess right? Hardlight hologram amazon muscle girl controlled by VR helmed fat girl? Thats two, two, fetish bodies for the price of one

And to the rest of your question, Otto is repeatedly played up as the guy who considers the appearance of his romances as a secondary or tertiary concern.
>>

So you'll put up with stupid, repetitive shit as long as it's in ASM?

>>90684217
im not real;ly upset about it. I really wanted to see more Superior Spidey, and most probably this will be it.

I actually like this because i feel like it folds together neatly with the Secret Empire event, like he's only joining HYDRA because of his semi-reformed ideals so he's joining a semi-reformed organization which still enables him to effectively be a mustache-twirling villain. Hope that he finally gets a status quo after this though, like >>90684284 said. He goes through so many god damn twists and turns you'd think he were an A-list hero or something. Use somebody else ffs

>>90691730
>So you'll put up with stupid, repetitive shit as long as it's in ASM?
Why do you think Slott has survived on ASM so long? Spiderfags only care for the main book (and Miles shockingly) because it's the MAIN book thus important and muh collection. No one cares about side books. And which is why Zdarsky's book will be cancelled.

>>90694749
I'm not turned off by the fact it has Deadpool on it but to me the comic has been insufferable ever since Spidey and Deadpool got chummy. I'm liking the filler issues much better for zany fun because of that, because when Kelly is writing it feels like the only thing between these two getting a room is the fact I'm reading it.

Also GRIMDARK SPIDEY for the Nth time doesn't tickle my fancy at all whatsoever. Nor does the whole B-B-BUT MUH OMD hook. Marvel has bait-and-switched people over it ever since '09 and people keep falling for it.

http://community.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?92750-Thread-Drift-Will-One-More-Day-ever-be-reversed

he said in no uncertain terms that the marriage is never and will never come back. some posters continued to ponder what-ifs to keep the dream alive. Slott answered everyone of them (while patting himself on the back for RYV).
>>
>>90695024
Once apon a time Bendis wrote good things too, writers can change over time, I just always keep my expectations with Deadpool super low.
>>90695045
The issue Penn wrote was pretty fun, I liked that quite a bit, and I can understand where you are coming from with the whole bbf stuff, but I cannot agree, I hated the way that Peter just treated Wade like shit all the time. Granted it's well earned, but seeing Peter just being outright hateful stuck me the wrong way. It pleases me to see them acting like pals, and halarious that it's not Spidey whose the annoying one. As for grimderp Spidey, again, I disagree, while I don't want a fucking raging hardcore spidey 24/7, the short little bits every now and again work well and I think we're lucky that it's Kelly whose writing a pissed off Peter
>>
>>90695177
>You will not see the marriage restored in the core continuity ever.
>Still never happening. Ever. Ever. Ever.
>the marriage is NEVER being officially restored.
>IT AIN'T HAPPENING EVER.
God damn he's such a massive faggot. Why do Marvel continue to hate the idea of a married Peter so much? Especially after the reception of Superman and Lois.

Looks like I'll continue not giving a shit about Spider-man I guess.
>>
>>90695311
My issue isn't with Peter treating Deadpool right now, but I'd say Kelly firmly crossed the line from "bromance" straight into "foreplay". It's just a chore to get through their inane 'counter-or-continue-the-joke' through all the pages.

And I personally never liked any version of grimdark Spider-Man at all, either from "end of the Copy-Parents" storyline, to Back in Black or before OMIT when he thought Harry's baby was killed. It's always temporary, and to me, it's always a chore.

Coupled with the issues I mentioned already I really just dropped the thing at this point.
>>

they hated the marriage since it took place, i believe Slott on that.

why it took them 20 years to just do away with it when they ended up going with one of the most insulting and divisive stories for any comic book hero ever, who the hell knows.

some suit must have some concrete reason to believe that single Spidey will sell more and merchandise more than married Spidey.
>>
>>90695799
That's exactly what he's saying, though I'm amused at both A) he needs to squash down every single thing (it's not about the possibility of it coming back or not, which I give no shits about, but rather this attitude of NO! YOU STOP THINKING THIS WAY! RIGHT NOW! going so far as trying to say people with too much free time daydreaming their status quo comes back as the same as Hollow Earth theorists) and B) he can't stop congratulating himself on getting RYV greenlit.

It's fascinating, really just like seeing two autistic kids screeching REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE at each other hoping the other side's head will explode eventually.

Did you just not hear of the second to last arc of Ultimate Spider-Man? Peter showed up at Miles place for his web shooters, knocked him out and took them only to team up with him when Osborn attacked, give Miles the keys to Spider-Man and then drive off with MJ into the sunset...just in time for the universe to end
>>
>>90696704
That's exactly the point though: sure he has insider knowledge besides common sense to know that Marvel doing a fucking deal with the devil, literally, isn't getting undone anytime soon.

By the third reply where people just say "but it could happen" you'd just say "fuck it" and go back to work or do more productive things with your life.

Unless Marvel pays him to shitpost, which in this case makes him an American Hero.

>>
>>90697673
You just gotta wonder what sort of thought process "dawned" on people to go with OMD of all things.

Peter and MJ could have a falling out and divorce, and in this day and age where every last plot point gets glanced over with a "it didn't work" and perpetual manchildren we live in where that is ever more plentiful, they think "no, for the grounded character, we definitely should make Mephisto do it, like how even a panicked bullpen during bankruptcy managed to say 'no, that's stupid.".
>>
>>90697480
Yeah, it's almost like people want an ongoing title that isn't intentionally inflammatory dog shit written by a hack. I know, I was shocked too.
>>
>>90697771

that's what really angers me most about OMD. i do prefer marriage status quo but i'm not an autismo nerdbot who NEEDS it.

what angers me most is that this is one of the most impactful stories told in ASM's history...a major retcon of 20 years of continuity. and it is the most garbage story anyone has had the mispleasure of reading.

think about it, even those who prefer single status can't say a good fucking thing about the story. and then on the other end, we have niggas raging just as hard 10 years after the fact as when it first happened. for such an important story, it was told with such callous disregard for the character himself.
>>
>>90698026
The problem is it didn't just shit on the character, it shat on basically the Marvel universe at large.

You have that wonderfully illustrated pointless spreadpage where Peter goes to the entire world and "not a single person" says they can heal an ailing old woman, ranging from Dr. Doom to the X-Men having more than one single healer in their ranks and we being shown Peter being in direct contact with them.

Marriage enthusiasts just might as well have said "guys, you're making this too easy".

while his candidness about this issue is certainly admirable, despite his ridiculous need to argue and congratulate himself, i have to bet some higher ups at Marvel are not happy with this exchange.

because Slott has basically confirmed (if you take him at his word) that no love interest, MJ or not, will ever have a permanent place in ASM continuity. it will always be a carousel. so why the fuck would we even care about it at this point?
>>
>>90698301
>Spider-Man's love life will always be a carrousel

Just like... pretty much every Big Two hero?
>>
>>90695311
Yeah I don't like Peter being hateful towards Wade but I agree with >>90695045 Wade got annoying when Peter decided to be friends with him and I guess Kelly is catering hardcore to Spideypool fans. The homoerotism feels forced and it wasn't as fun as how Nicieza does it when he wrote Deadpool in C&D.

Also the whole Wade fanboys over him and wants to be like him romance thing that Kelly is pushing now especially since in his original run Wade HATED being compared to him.

If anything I see Wade and Peter having a relationship like how Peter has with Wolverine except Wade quips and jokes around and they both prank each other, maybr a little gay here and there from Wade's side but it wouldn't impede him from shit talking Peter.
>>
>>90698451
Superman's got a stable, loving family and has had the same love interest for decades. And there's probably a ton of B-C list superheroes that have got stable love lives. Buddy Baker and Pre-edge Ralph Dibny come to mind.
>>
>>90697771
Quesada didn't want Peter to get divorced because it aged him so they made him someone who makes deals with the devil.

The other option was to make Peter a widow amd they tried that but it didn't take.

>>
>>90684284
>when sales plummet
>when Slott dies
>when Bendis dies and Slott firmly gets 2-3 years worth of issues after his death

Slott and Bendis both choose Spider man as their record to set/break. So basically Bendis will be on Miles and Slott will be on Peter until sales go into the negatives or one/both of them die.

Actually they fucking do.

IIRC they made Vulture super young because at the time, the braintrust at Marvel hated Vulture's guts and after failing to replace Vulture outright with a gang of young men with the name/costumes in Web of Spider-Man, then giving him terminal cancer to kill him off only to have the story where he finds out he's dying to get critical acclaim from people who hated Vulture, they said fuck it and made him a pretty boy.

Fuck, one of the chief reasons why Sam Raimi QUIT making Spider-Man movies was due to the fact that Sony kept refusing to let him use Vulture, even though Raimi had John Malcovich ready to go and play the character. They forced him to use Venom instead of Vulture in the third film and refused to let him use Vulture period in the hypothetical fourth film unless he killed him off in the first act so that they could introduce a super sexy female vulture (played by Anne Hathaway) for the rest of the film.....

Kelly I should note, scorched earth his rep with Spider-Man fans by not only participating in Brand New Day, but also cheerleading some of the really shitty elements, like Peter must always suffer and being against the Spider-Marriage in public.

The issues he wrote of Amazing Spider-Man were also widely reviled, in the Joe Casey writing Uncanny X-Men and it's god-awful to the point that fans turn on him sort of way.

His career never really recovered in terms of mainstream comics.

It's why his DP/SM book has been full of pandering (like bringing up OMD and bringing Mysterio back and shit). He's desperate to be loved after making all of the people, who for years wanted him to write Spidey, to love him again

>Why do Marvel continue to hate the idea of a married Peter so much?

The general idea is that they believe that Peter should be a "down-on-his-luck" superhero and shouldn't be married to a supermodel.

Well the first solution is: Don't make Mary Jane a supermodel. The ironic thing is she wasn't a supermodel during the 90's for a long time until the Byrne relaunch and then they used that as an excuse to "kill" her off.

The second part is that there's only so many Parker luck shit they can do before it gets obnoxious. If you actually read the Ditko stuff he was down on his luck a lot sure, but the stories moved forward. Suddenly Peter was no longer with Betty and he was in college. To keep cycling it like a Peanuts comic or Simpsons episode makes the comic and the character stagnant. Even Charles Schultz gave Charlie Brown a few wins in the last decade he worked on the strip, or de-emphasized the loser aspect compared to the 60's strips.

As I read a lot of the old Spider-Man comics I kind of realized that everyone saying "Spider-Man is the Charlie Brown of superheroes" is really taking the wrong approach with Spider-Man. It's a really shallow approach, like saying that "Spider-Man would've totally been a school shooter!" and misses a lot of things about the stories.

>Stone jams Spider-Man's spider-sense, doesn't stun Miguel cause he doesn't have one, doesn't do anything to regular police officers
>Osborn runs for one panel, where he's standing maybe two feet away from the Spiders, and then is gone by the next one
>Not one officer runs after
>Spider-Man 2099 has webs and doesn't use them, is superhumanly fast and doesn't run after
>616 Spider-Man is incapacitated for the duration of two panels, then forgets he can use spider-sense to track enemies
>Did Norman turn around the corner? Did he slip through a sewer hole? Did he just take a cab and fucked off to the nearest coffee shop?

meanwhile Marvel doubles down on their decision, has basically erased MJ from the book, and has determined that no one ever can let the marriage happen again.

compare that to Superman, a character with even more history, who was rebooted and generally disliked by the community in Nu52. DC listens, reboots, and warps realities to bring back Superdad and Lois Lane into the main fold.

No it isn't. Because if that were the case people wouldn't be able to notice it. If Secret Wars had altered history so that Parker Industries was doing fine, why would people remember that at one point it wasn't and then the stock went up? That's not a continuity change, that's a story development.

First panel, Sonny Jim.

Now move on from the "Secret Wars changed shit" meme. It's giving Marvel way too much credit, because if they were smart they'd have already undone shit like Sins Past, Vampire Jubille and other stupid BS with the universe being rebuilt but they haven't. At all.

>>

Incorrect. He reprogrammed Peter's mind to think it was Ock (and Ock's mind thought it was Peter). They didn't literally swap bodies.

It's not like appreciating a person's attractiveness PRECLUDES also appreciating other things about them. Let's not get all Anita Sarkeesian here. It's not an either/or proposition.

And at the end of that issue, he made a decision not to pursue her romantically or sexually in spite of her obvious attractiveness precisely because of his respect for her as a person.
>>
>>90715730

Well, yes and no. I would argue that Otto copied his consciousness with sufficient fidelity into Peter's brain that that mind was then able to be faithfully re-copied and transcribed into the next clone body available, providing continuity of consciousness.

I'd say that it was less of a mind-swap than it was a mind *invasion* that Otto pulled.

He brought back Electros girlfriend who died after he accidentialy killed her with an Electro kiss. She kissed him and some sicence/slott bullshit happened where Electro died and his power was transfered into her new body.

Why Ben didn't bring back Electro like the next day so he could have someone with decades of experience with their power instead of some literally who bad girl we'll never know
