Also, maybe it isn't fair but because I went back and read the archive while /co/ was having threads about the suicide flashback where he was clearly going help Lucy I also couldn't buy him as a villain during the "attempted rape" because Taeshi deliberately wrote it with an alternate, non-rape interpretation possible.

That aside, he outright says to Toby that he wasn't going to rape her just a few pages later. It dispels any credibility he has as villain instead of it being eroded a bit when Lucy starts talking to him and being completely swept away when we get the suicide flashback.
