Hera noted that the if the Imperials could manipulate Chopper that well from such a distance, their equipment must be pretty powerful at sending a tremendous amount of data at once. So she hooked Chopper and the Ghost together, and then linked them both to the data spike. Then, once Chopper was back up and communication with the Imperial ship was back up, Hera started a massive data dump of garbage data from the Ghost into Chopper who, in turn, was forced to use all of his own processing power while sending all of that data - the data dump from the Ghost and Chopper's own processing data - back to the Gozanti.

In turn, the Gozanti's computers were being forced to collect and process all of that data at once, because they were still connected to the feed through Chopper. Once the main computer of the system was too overloaded to bear, other systems had to compensate for what the main computer was unable to handle. And, well, they couldn't.

Remember how the Titanic sank? When one of the compartments in the hull was filled, the others were supposed to fill to compensate and keep the ship afloat for longer. But instead, so many compartments were filled that it couldn't handle it and sank. Basically, what happened to the Gozanti is this, except with data instead of water, and an explosion instead of sinking.
