Example, Chalo, the artist for Las Lindas, used to have a cute and colorful style around 2007. Because it's a simple setting. There's like ten thousand manga that do the same thing (and if you want to get technical a lot of them stem from older JRPG games) and they're either stealing from them or just going directly from Monhun shit.

I'm friends with a few artists and I always get invited to inner circle groups as a sort of tag along.

They get really bad *most* of the time. Nobody wants to start "drama" so they just exist as a place to post new art and get five people going "yeah that's good" because nobody is willing to give critique about anything. Using a chat room as a place for art critique in general is weird mind

But that's what it comes down to. These places are formed not because they like anime or videogames or whatever but because of art so even if you talk about off topic shit it's usually not a place filled with your "friends" but rather art "colleagues" so you basically only talk about art shit.

In addition since you can't shit talk each other there it's usually a place everyone goes to shit talk OTHER artists who aren't in there.

To summarize it, when a group of (art) people come together and their only ties are their work and there's NO moderation it's always going to descend into sniffing farts. It's a hard line because even though I know that's super fucking gay you don't want to be mean to complete strangers so it's easier to just go "oh I like your X that's very nice" or "oh I hope you had a good day" or etc.
