New Super-Man, Deathstroke. Deathstroke is pretty much the only book I feel I'm particularly enjoying being 2 times monthly.
>>
>>90570750
Hello, Storyteller.

>>90570781
Outlaws was solid. I think Artemis is starting to build up a fan base on /co/.
>>
>people we love

good to live in a world where Cap/Zemo is canon
>>
>>90570781

That was so much better than Zub's Zemo, a difference like night and day. The preview made me fear that Spencer would go the same frustrating route as Zub but nope, he was good to Helmut.
>>
>>90570831
>>90570781
Artemis is genuinely great.

Mother Panic came out, with a totally different artist, giving it a very different tone. IvX was a total clusterfuck

I need to re-read from the top because I'm a little lost at the moment in it, but it's sure not standing still

>>90570843
Zemo is best villain manager because he cares even about Z-list talent. I bet he promotes from within the organization, too.

>>90570859
I need to get to MP. I saw Emma's costume and loled.
>>
>>90570843

I am really curious how Spencer will handle Zemo's relationship with the other Bolts. Especially since he repeatedly said that Zemo has a rough road ahead of him.
>>
>>90570822
I hope the crossover helps the sales enough because I really don't want it to go monthly
>>
>>90570859
I'm looking forward to someone unpicking the current stuff Emma's getting thrown into in a few years. Like Penance or hell, Zemo right now.
>>

Hal n Pals was pretty gory

also Earth 2 Society is finally over, may it rot in hell

Love this, Skorpio with a 'k'

>>90570942

>>
>>90570883
>>90570900
It's just really nice to have Priest plotting/pacing every two weeks rather than every month for me. It keeps the book moving and I love that the whole cast is engaged, not just Mr. Stroke. That's so rare now - and to be fair, the Cap book is also making an effort there.
>>
>>90570952
>how did it end???
Happily ever after, Helena is Batman now. Worst Dick is Oracle.
>>
>>90570903

There are plenty of meta digs to make at how Emma was backslid into villainy. Question is just when we'll get there.
>>
>>90570942
Hal and Pals was a friggan Invincible issue. They must be bringing back the Guy is half alien thing
>>90570903
Worst fucking part of that is that it happened in literally 3-4 pages. We saw her going mad slightly through both events, but what happened was just absurd

the supporting cast in Mr. Stroke is great and I'm legit excited to see that he gave New Peej a feel of who she is in one issue

>>90570991
a few years until some Emma fan gets to write

So is it just me, or are the announced X-books completely either "literally who niche book" or "slight shuffle of house stable writer"?
>>
>>90570952
>how did it end???
everything finally stopped blowing up and the wonders could get back to things like saving kittens and suicide jumpers, Worst Dick was crippled (again) and became Oracle, Helena took over as Batman, Alan is still sad and gay, etc

Earth 2 might have been shit on hardcore and dragged through the mud and stuffed full of Superman/Batman characters but at least it got a decent ending I guess
>>
>>90570883
This issue was slow and let's face it, indulgent for Zemo fans but it was nice to see happen and in combination with the incredibly meta language last issue it makes the way Zemo was at the start of this book a lot easier to digest.

>>90570898
There were some really neat touches in the panels they got. I would have loved to have dialogue there too ofc.
>>
>>90571024
Given that Soule is writing the Astonishing book (no artist last I checked) I fully expect that team to be hunting Emma
>>
>>90570859
>Artemis is genuinely great.
She is. The Bana-Mighdall are basically the same as before too. They'll probably cut out the slavery and rape stuff though.

Also, more Amazons giving off yuri vibes is always a good thing.
>>
>>90571024
>So is it just me, or are the announced X-books completely either "literally who niche book" or "slight shuffle of house stable writer"?
That was pretty much the reaction here as soon as the first couple were announced. There are a few of the former I'm kinda hopeful for.

>>90571035
Very little will top the savagery of that 'world-building' panel.
>>

>>90571024

>>
>>90571024

Honestly, both the X-Men reboot and the rumored Make Mine Marvel seem less like a Marvel Rebirth and more like Marvel shoddily throw some paint over everything without actually addressing or fixing the problem.
>>
>>90570898
>Especially since he repeatedly said that Zemo has a rough road ahead of him.

I assumed that was the death (or whatever, missed a couple of issues in there). Is it still coming?

I guess there will be some heartbreak when he finds out Steve was just cubed and they're not really BFFs, but I don't know what else we might get.

Rebirth involved Johns flying literally everyone in and talking things through with them, which gives it a touch of cohesion behind the genre/tone variety. Does Marvel have anyone with that range/pull to ride herd? IMO, they should let some of their niche books stay what they are--even if they're not For Me, they are what they are, but...

Yesterday I wondered if anyone had asked Lobdell if that lady was Artemis' girlfriend, and assumed that he would just give an evasive answer. As far as I know, no one has asked him, but looking at his twitter I did notice that he recently wrote a trans comic, which genuinely surprised me.

>>90571077
They have got to be leaning to that, he had a W shirt on, and there is no way even Guy could deal this much damage (pic related) to the guy who stood up to Mongul's son

We don't know yet. Spencer did also say that Helmut would eventually get to look at himself and go 'wtf am I even doing?' and I don't think we have reached that point yet.
>>
>>90571220
>Slott strikes me as deeply unambitious, having reached his dream job.
yeah I guess now that he has a blood contract to stay on Spider-Man forever he doesn't need to be Dan Slott, Continuity Cop anymore

I really don't know who Marvel has left other than those two who's enough of a name to be their Johns
>>
>>90571131
>I guess there will be some heartbreak when he finds out Steve was just cubed and they're not really BFFs, but I don't know what else we might get.
So I don't really expect it from Spencer but I'm never gonna ignore the possibility for a betrayal from Zemo there. You know a "Steve you're clearly insane. But your idea is workable" It would be perfect, this thread would fucking come.
>>
>>90571246
>there is no way even Guy could deal this much damage (pic related) to the guy who stood up to Mongul's son
eh, he SHOULDN'T have been able to but GL is always strong on the humanwank, I'm not taking it as evidence that they're bringing the Vuldarian stuff back

last issue he was also wearing the biker jacket from before Warrior but I'm not taking it as evidence that he's getting a yellow ring again either

>>90571237
no spoiler, but we're on the upswing on Kate's competence, now
>>
>>90571246
I don't know what the editorial limits are but certainly you can have Apollo and Midnighter making out on-panel now. I feel like girls not kissing girls isn't as restrictive especially with C-list characters, and I assume that was Lobdell's decision not to confirm.
>>
>>90571325

Keikaku off between Bobby and Helmut would make me come diamonds.
>>
>>90571246

Well, why should they leave? It's their home too. I think you do lose something once the dream starts to fade out and you mostly have two groups of genetic freaks kicking the shit out of each other but I suppose mutant stories were ALWAYS that in a way.

There has been X-Cosmic stuff before, it wouldn't be out of nowhere. And it'd be novel.

Oh, Jay (otherwise known as Rachel). Yeeeaaaaah,I don't know, like if you see some characterization you like there (let's not forget that Emma hasn't always been on the side of angels) that's fine, but don't try to justify this clusterfuck as a well-written story, because it's not. It's so fucking obvious every writer involved has been flip-flopping with Scott and Emma's character arc all this time, with no real endgame in mind, just doing what Marvel told them to do. I honestly can't defend garbage writing like that, I mean, I want to work for Marvel, but if they tried to make me write some editorially-mandated trash I'll walk out right then and there. Fuck that noise, I'm no yes-man.

Pretty much never. It was already a heavily mocked cliche for heroes to fight each other for no reason, and now it's a regular occurrence, without even a villain for them to team up against.

Honestly, I blame Death Battle for making this power levels wanking crap even worse than it already was. Nobody cares about stories anymore, it's all about who would beat who in a fight.

A single-gender society is impossible (given that SOME mixed sex presence is necessary just to procreate), so we really have very little idea of just how people growing up in said society would be affected by it, in terms of sexuality. I mean, even people growing up in incredibly patri/matriarichal "virtually" single-sex environments are still, like, aware of the other side of things, outside of some super fucked-up "raised in a basement" parents-were-criminals backgrounds.

"Not seeing gender" is as plausible as anything, really.

Okay, so somebody asked why Bones seemed to be meaner and more manipulative in Batwoman than he is in Manhunter.

My only theory is, Andrekyo doesn't share Blackman's view of Spooks.
Because, Bones is a government spook. The leader of an Alphabet Agency where secrecy and manipulation is the name of the game.

And before you even say the DEO can't possibly be as bad as the FBI or CIA, let me now remind you, the DEO detained children, and did it in a manner that wouldn't fly if used on the worst CMU holding "domestic terrorists" never mind a child.

Bruh, the Cantos thing was metal:
Spoilers for what the travel is from the second half of the series
The vast majority of people in the new empire-state have parasites that can rebuild them when they stay in Pax territory. The FTL involves people (Jesuit shock troops in this case) get in resurrection creches and get ripped apart from the FTL speed. Their bodies then regenerate a week later. This is still faster than the regular space travel

First book is a bunch of short stories connected via frame device towards the greater story. Almost all of the stories are great in that one. The second book, the Fall of Hyperion, is an amazing trainwreck as seen in the title (in the best way). The other two books are best read after a while, because they are tangentially related to the first two (taking place hundreds of years later). Comparing them to the first two would be a mistake.
If you have played Mass Effect, you might be very familiar with how some of the systems in the book work.

>>90575009
From a review of one of his latest books, Flashback:
>Dan Simmons’s “Flashback” is an abundantly entertaining, often outrageous right-wing fantasy about a weak, broken United States 20-odd years from now. The country is ruled over by the Japanese, lives in fear of the Islamic Global Caliphate, and its citizens mostly spend their time stoned on a drug called flashback that lets them escape to a better past. Some of the events that have occurred between now and the early 2030s can be summed up thusly:

>U.S. Goes Bankrupt

>Israel Destroyed by Nuclear Attack

>Mexican Army

>Invades California

>Sharia Law Rules

>Europe, Canada

>Giant Mosque

>Built at Ground Zero

>U.S. Down

>to 44½ States

>There’s more, but you get the idea. And if you haven’t guessed, the blame for almost all these disasters lies with the fellow who was elected president of the United States in 2008.

I think what I like about it so far is that it uses the setting pretty well. Like I know I'm nostalgic for the history of the DCU and all but I appreciate the sort of referential nature of it. When it's a personal bout between two characters. When both sides have a legitimate gripe and the company itself encourages you to take sides.

Civil War was shit.
But debating and arguing about Superhero Registration was fuck as fuck.

All Marvel had to do was make it as much a matter of the future of the species for the Inhumans as it was for the Mutants.

Destroy the Cloud, no more Terrigenesis, no more inhumans. Leave it, it kills and sterilizes the mutants, no more mutants.

Leaving both sides to either fight to destroy the other or find some way to contain or render it harmless.

Hank, would be the mutant going for the latter, Scott the former.

I'm not well read enough on the Inhumans to think of which one would go hardline and which one wouldn't.

Eh, Todd had a really screwed up life from his childhood onward, his suddenly being revealed to realize he's gay was one of his most stable moments as a character.

I really wouldn't consider it a retcon, because it's really not much different than how a lot of people come to realize their sexuality/gender issues/etc. Somewhat out of left field isn't uncommon for how people figure this stuff out for themselves.

Having a telepath tell it to you in a way that REALLY seems like they're brainfucking you...is not good.

Honestly, it was better than the hitjob they did on her with the "cheating on Kyle" thing.

Shit, I just doublechecked some details on that and found this post on a forum:

>I never understood why Kyle didn't create a giant green axe and behead her?

>I'd have done that to the bitch that made me a cuckold.

Regularly enough that it kind of makes the whole "life at conception" and "dead babies have souls" beliefs have some REALLY weird and disturbing implications, let alone the hardcore religious-justified opposition to intentional medically induced abortion having some bizarre hypocritical overtones.

The female reproductive system is not a very efficient one, as nature goes.

This was from 2010, too, so it wasn't even tied into that wonderful current trend in buzzwording.

I am okay with this coincidence. The first book is very much inspired by the Canterbury Tales, if you're into that kind of thing.

It's a total kludge and it makes me want to strangle anyone who goes on about how perfectly designed human bodies are.

>The country is ruled over by the Japanese
Jesus, Japan's brief rise in the 1970s and 1980s really made a certain generation of Americans become utterly fixated on the idea that those dastardly Japanese are about to use Economics to take over the world, even now the best part of three decades into Japan's permastagnation. Tom Clancy was another one of them, writing a book about how a coup turns Japan into an evil expansionist dictatorship again and how the Americans have to save them. did a number on them.

I mean, they're not quite as delusional as the Western Europeans who thought that their economic boom in the 50s, 60s and 70s was due to the supremacy of their own economic models and not American investment and as such have continued those models even as they face forty years of stagnation, but they're close.

Anyway, all this makes me think that the average American is only happy when their country's status as "leader of the free world" is unquestioned. Shit, they only accepted the Brits as anglobros when they had safely finished carving the Empire between themselves and the Soviets. It's for this reason that Trump's detente with Russia is doomed to failure, the Russians won't accept a junior partnership role the way the Brits did.

it's my favorite 80s relic and is endlessly hilarious.

How do you know you won't like twink Harlequin until you see it?

Some of the Iran hate boner is in that book according to review:

>Or take the nuclear destruction of Israel by Islamic terrorists in the 2020s; one might expect this to be a nonpartisan tragedy. Not so. We’re told that the speech Barack Obama made in Cairo in 2009, calling for better understanding between the West and the Muslim world, was “appeasement” of “fascism,” and led (along with those darn entitlements) to “a total retreat from international responsibilities” by the United States. Ergo, Obama caused the incineration of Israel.

It's all Obummer's fault. I think the story is that Simmons converted to Judaism right around 9/11, and became a hardcore conservative. The Hyperion Cantos and The Song of Kali are still fantastic, and I firmly believe that Ilium/Olympus are total horseshit

>He likes the idea of "JJ uncovers Secret Wars"

Small problem OP, that hasn't been part of the book since the first issue. The entire arc has been focused on retroactively saying that Carol was right to lock up that one woman, and breaking up Luke and Jessica (hopefully for good).
Bendis is ACTIVELY avoiding the good part.

Have you not read his dream-vision horror story about the coming Islamic Europe?

When SF/F writers go, they go off the deep end.
>>
>>90579763
I hate to say it for a Bendis book but apart from the dialogue there was real potential in this JJ because the first issue hook was good and could have been neatly folded back on Jess herself.

I really hope that right wing attacks on "Appeasement" will stop now that it's Russian being appeased with Crimea/Ukraine/whatever neighbouring government Putin doesn't like next.
